No trophy left behind

371

Sunday’s trip to Perth is the only away game Celtic have this month. With three home points from Livingston in the bag, we have home games against both St Mirren in the Scottish Cup and  Aberdeen – who are going through one of their more interesting periods, before the Hampden League Cup Final against our new adversaries.

By winning on Wednesday St Johnstone avoided defeat for the first time in eight games; this does not make a summer. St Mirren have everything going for them, although they will not look forward to returning to Celtic Park, the venue of their worst result of the season only two weeks ago.

One of the truisms in football is ‘it’s all about the next game’. I know this and so it’s with a bit of trepidation that I suggest we might want to plan for the three fixtures before Hampden as a group. We have a new striker, defensive mid and central defender all needing game time to get up to full fitness. I’m also sure Sead Haksabanovic could do with 60 minutes playing time. Use these games to make sure we arrive at Hampden with as strong a squad as possible.  The bitter anquish at only winning five of the last six League Cups cannot be smoothed over.  There should be no trophy left behind.

Playing in such a weak league has few advantages, but being able to build an early lead and then develop players is surely one of them.

Aye incredible………..they don’t like it up ’em!

  4. I’ve always believed that about 30% of all penalties are of the stonewall variety. The other 70% are “seen them given”. Putting it another way it gives a referee the flexibility to make the call according to his bias/prejudices. I haven’t see their penalty today but the question is whether Ross County would have got the award in identical circumstances.

  5. back to this playing first malarkey,

from this morning till this aftenoon, what added pressure has come from thems winning ?

    for me, none.

this morning we are going to perth for a win, and nothing has changed in that regard.

if your feeling added pressure as a player or manager from looking at your rivals scores when they are so far behind you i would suggest the coach would insist on a media ban and not letting hte players know.

as markiebhoy mentioned, scoreboard results for me only matter when your in touching distance of each other and a gap is overtaken.

anything else is just hype and fan noise.

i doubt a player who comes from leagues were normal play day is sunday even let it register.

we think about it too much, and anyways it is tv that moves the dates nobody in the league.

When was the fixture list drawn up?

What was the points difference at that time?

Awe naw…pressure’s oan noo. Oor players wull be crappin’ thumsells efter thems winning the day.

  9. When the fixture list is first programmed, all the rounds of matches are scheduled for the same days, fact.

then the tv companies who are paying for the priveldge get to move the games as per their own requirements.

The fixtures were drawn up before the start of the season, with every game listed as Saturday 3pm.

The TV companies then choose which games to broadcast live and kick-off times and dates adjusted accordingly. This is done in 2-monthly blocks as the season progresses.

  11. but he knows that, god knows what point he is trying to make, it will turn into some bash the nationalists view

  12. We all know we stay strong and resilient

But the huns would fold just like like putting your finger thru the toilet paper the morning after a good curry……..

Especially at the toilet bowl that is snake mountain

  13. even though Celtic always play 19 home and 19 away we are due around about now somebody working out the possible teams we will play after the split to tell us

“celtic will be made to go to tynecastle 3 times” or

“rangers at home to hibs 3 times”

i fancy the league will be done on the weekend of fixture 33 (huns away to aberdeen, celts at home to motherwell)

maybe the huns will get the chance to play before us again, and lose to gift us the league.

There are advantages in playing your matches before your rival plays their’s.

Whether that is why the fixture list has been adjusted so that the huns are playing their matches before Celtic may be a moot point.

But I’d suggest that If the roles were reversed the huns would make more of an issue of it than Celtic have done.

  15. pray tell and provide proof, what are the advantages to playing a fixture before another team in the league ?

  16. tv fixture guy in sky office from houslow, rugby fan, ………………

i think i will move the celtic away match at aberdeen to our sunday fixture cos of the audience numbers last times ………….

and to hamper them and help the mighty glasgow rangers.
