No trophy left behind

371

Sunday’s trip to Perth is the only away game Celtic have this month. With three home points from Livingston in the bag, we have home games against both St Mirren in the Scottish Cup and  Aberdeen – who are going through one of their more interesting periods, before the Hampden League Cup Final against our new adversaries.

By winning on Wednesday St Johnstone avoided defeat for the first time in eight games; this does not make a summer. St Mirren have everything going for them, although they will not look forward to returning to Celtic Park, the venue of their worst result of the season only two weeks ago.

One of the truisms in football is ‘it’s all about the next game’. I know this and so it’s with a bit of trepidation that I suggest we might want to plan for the three fixtures before Hampden as a group. We have a new striker, defensive mid and central defender all needing game time to get up to full fitness. I’m also sure Sead Haksabanovic could do with 60 minutes playing time. Use these games to make sure we arrive at Hampden with as strong a squad as possible.  The bitter anquish at only winning five of the last six League Cups cannot be smoothed over.  There should be no trophy left behind.

Playing in such a weak league has few advantages, but being able to build an early lead and then develop players is surely one of them.

  1. Politicians urging that a wayward Chinese “Weather ballon” be shot down.

A CCP spokesman stated that the balloon was meant to monitor weather conditions, although sources close to the White House say they suspect the balloon is en route to Scotland to assess how Celtic manage keep going for 90+ minutes every game.

Rare game of golf then off to Vale park.

It seems £500m gets you a 0-0 draw against Fulham.

  4. Morning all from a rather mild but dry at the moment Kirkintilloch (cafe for breakfast).

We move onto St Johnstone manana and although any win will do 3 – 1 to the leather belts is my prediction.

‘the rights of people to self-determiation.’

Sometimes a majority of that ‘people’ exercise their right to self determination in a way that a minority of that ‘people’ disagree with.

And in that scenario you have to wonder which of those ‘people’ truly believe in self determination. Is it those who accept the decision of the majority (whether they agree with the decision or not), or those who reject the decision of the majority?

Is the self determination of an ignoramus as valid as that of a well-informed person?

ie Should the lemming who decides jumping off a cliff is not a good idea still follow the majority?

  8. Is the weather in Glagow as wet as the forecast suggests?

I am travelling down for a Tapas Day in Cafe Andaluz soon followed by a visit to either the Pot Still or the Bon Accord. Dryish, Pot Still, wet, Bon Accord.

I am sure everyone is fascinated by that information but we don`t have a game today !

Depends what you mean by valid. But in a democracy everyone is supposed to have an equal say.

Because that’s just the way it is, and it doesn’t matter, even although somebody thinks it matters enough to make sure Rainjurz play first

in 17 out of 30 fixtures = 56.67% and Celtic only play first 6 out of 30 = 20% We play at the same time 7 out of 30 = 23.33%

    Ernie Lynch,

Agreed and self-determination is never achieved through violent coups by foreign parties backing minorty extremeists, imposing their will on the population. Expecially so close to a planned general election, and the outlawing of all democratic opposition.

  12. Celtic have lost one league game this season.

St Mirren on Sunday 18th September. After an unbeaten league run of 38 games.

thems beat united 2-1 the day before.

this was 2 weeks after we had beaten the huns 4-0, and had a midweek draw with shaktar. in warsaw poland.

thems have had 3 draws when playing before celtic. and one loss to st johnstone playing after.

if someone is manipulating the fixtures to advantage rangers then they aint doing a very good job if it.

as an aside, maybe lots of our players prefer a sunday shift because that is the normal game day in the leagues they come from.

i doubt very much anyone in our whole set up looks at the huns score and thinks oh thats us under more pressure now,

if the league was nip and tuck maybe, but this celtic team has lost only 1 game in 71 matches, the fixture scheduling matters not a jot.

I sat and watched Chelsea v Fulham last night.

A dreadful game and Chelsea were rank rotten. Imagine paying over £1,000 for a season ticket to watch that guff.

  14. Tom

Mate of mine was a spurs season ticket holder a few seasons ago he was paying over £1,200 plus of course travelling from Stoke.

Gave it up due to amount of games he couldn’t attend because of scheduling.

  15. GENE

I used to go to White Hart Lane when I lived in South Tottenham in the late 70s & early 80s. The days of Hoddle, Ardiles, Vila, Perryman, Archibald etc.

Never had a season ticket. Used to pay cash at the turnstiles and it was reasonably priced. Probably a few pounds more than I’d pay at Celtic Park. I even got to two Wembley FA Cup finals plus a replay.

I still have a soft spot for the Spurs and look for their results but it was never like my love for Celtic.

  16. Would you rather win today, and 12 points clear, with the huns playing tomorrow, or lead down to 6 points today, with St Johnstone and VAR to play tomorrow?

    Laddered your tights?

In your inimitable style you jumped to whether it mattered and missed the point of the question of ‘Why’ the fixtures are so? . Maybe you even think somebody at Hamdump is handing out a disadvantage to Rainjurz giving them 17 League starts ahead of Celtic?

As for ‘paranoia’ you really should know better than that.

Rumour has it that the Chinese are sending over another balloon to assist var on celtic games !!

    Not that type of balloon…….

  20. Totally disagree, it is an obvious advantage to play before your nearest challenger for a title and the league know this. TV has also been dictating fixtures but not for tv schedules but to try and get Huns closer to make it more exciting.

They should not be interfering as its advantaging 1 club our nearest challenger.

The whole set up is corrupt.

We need a clearout of all officialdom.

Speaking to a friend this morning and got talking about Celtic games that you headed to…..but never got to see.One particular game was the New Year fixture at Ibrox which we lost to a grieg penalty.Travelled from the Port on the bus from the Hibs, and after a brief (no pun intended) discussion with the reliable person who was nominated to keep the tickets safe…..,tickets lost! However when the gates opened ……we still could not command a suitable spot to watch the game. That was three games in 4 days Clyde,R’ers and D’line.Anyone ever suffer that predicament……
