Call me a cynic, but after recent “soft” red cards shown against Motherwell and Hamilton players facing Celtic, I sense a bit of “even themselves out” in store for us at Hampden on Sunday. Memories of Hampden semi-finals against Inverness and Ross County, where we were denied progress and (probably) a trophy due to red cards feature heavily in the memory.
The best chance Newco have to stop Celtic and reach their second Scottish Cup final would be to fall poleaxed on the ground after each and every challenge from a Celtic player. Bobby Madden may feel obliged to show that referees are not scared to red card Scotland’s top players.
Celtic being reduced to 10 men didn’t do Newco any good at Ibrox last month, but they would bite your hand off for a second crack at those numbers.
We need to play smart, especially Scott Brown, who I expect will be targeted. Odds on Madden sending off a Celtic player will be short.

Starry Plough,
Being of that vintage myself, Mr Lydon floated my boat too, back in that summer of 77.

Where were you when Frank McGarvey scored with yon heider?
answer somewhere in a massive cloud of dust at Hampden

good chance. I was standing on one of those big, wide crush barriers waving a poorly coloured tricolour (very dark green) and I was dressed as one too.
Going to watch it.
Happy days

The night of that cup final, our supporters bus had a do in Chambers George Square. Frank McGarvey was guest of honour. Needless to say Frank never paid for a drink that night and got hammered. He told us that Davie Hay was releasing him. He got very emotional. My mate and I had to carry him down the stairs in the pub and pour him into a taxi.
Frank was some character.

Thanks for the good wishes & replies,a kind word should never be underestimated, much appreciated fholks.
This blog can be a spirit lifting place with the decency expressed from so many posters. It’s the wee things.
STARRY,thanks for the link. What a voice he had & naw bad axeman as well. And a Tim too, what’s not to like. ;)
With regard to the fixtures…..
Another thing to consider. I would be very surprised if the midweek game isn’t allocated as a home game for us, thus drawing a smaller crowd than if the fixture had been a Saturday afternoon 3pm kick off.
It wouldn’t hurt the attendance for Hibs or Hearts if we played them midweek at their ground, but there is a potential difference in gate receipts of £250,000 to £300,000 between Wednesday at home for us and Saturday at home.
At long last, the decision we have all been waiting on.

For what it’s worth i heard Pep had banned Citeh players from taking two corners in a row which are the same as each other. Must be to try and unsettle the opposition.

I dont really recall Provan scoring many other free kicks.
it was a suprise when he scored.
—————–
I’m sure Provan scored s number of goals from free kicks. He was certainly one of the best crossers of a ball, hitting it with swerve.
nostalgia .com under 55s look away, who could hit a ball harder than tommy gemmell or bobby murdoch, good god i seen them hit some screamers in europe and against the deid club.hh.
I’ve tried to think about Provan and free kicks, but apart from the obvious one, can’t think.
He did win player’s player of the year, I remember that.
It’s amazing the random thoughts that come into your head.
Hail Hail
BP
Saw Peter Lorimer at Elland Rd.
He could scud a ball too.
DELANEYS DUNKY, yes he could hit a ball as well.hh.
Sorry, last try.

DELANEYS DUNKY,
If my old memory serves me right, Lorimer was measured as having the hardest/fastest shot in football.
