Call me a cynic, but after recent “soft” red cards shown against Motherwell and Hamilton players facing Celtic, I sense a bit of “even themselves out” in store for us at Hampden on Sunday. Memories of Hampden semi-finals against Inverness and Ross County, where we were denied progress and (probably) a trophy due to red cards feature heavily in the memory.
The best chance Newco have to stop Celtic and reach their second Scottish Cup final would be to fall poleaxed on the ground after each and every challenge from a Celtic player. Bobby Madden may feel obliged to show that referees are not scared to red card Scotland’s top players.
Celtic being reduced to 10 men didn’t do Newco any good at Ibrox last month, but they would bite your hand off for a second crack at those numbers.
We need to play smart, especially Scott Brown, who I expect will be targeted. Odds on Madden sending off a Celtic player will be short.

Babasonico…
Wee afternoon lullaby fur ye…
I searched high and low for this album on vinyl in the 80’s and found it in a wee record shop in Leeds where I had no expectations of finding it:))
Greek import no less:))

Ah for a PIERRE VAN HOOIJDONK or NAKAMURA hitting the free kicks. Both of them among the world’s deadliest free kick takers ever (50 or more career goals in official games from direct free kicks).
I never expect us to get a fair crack of the whip against any of the incarnation’s of the deid team. I have witnessed far too many occasions where we have been cheated.
(Actually, I never expect us to get a fair crack of the whip against any team in Scotland, especially if it is a semi or final.)
Maybe the ole sword of Damocles hanging over Madden, with his betting, may make him behave himself.
Our set pieces are something that really annoy me. Even when you watch games down south or elsewhere in Europe the set piece delivery is always very good. Similarly our free kicks are very poor. Griffiths seems to be the only one who can do both with consistency. When you look back at last season Boyata was scoring for fun from January onwards, it would be interesting to know how many of those goals were assisted by Griff. I remember quite a few.
On Sunday when Moussa hit the second free kick over the bar, Griff was warming up behind the goals with Lustig. As the ball sailed over the bar LG turned to ML in dismay and made some comment which looked along the lines of I could do a lot better than that. I was actually quite funny.
Favourite of mine. Not the most spectacular, but very skillful, free kick, especially under pressure, 0-1, last 10 minutes approaching, Davie Provan v DU, 1985 Centenary SC final.
Can’t do YouTube links on this contraption, or would put it up. Magic hoops moment!

A Scotsman with a free kick delivery is Wolves Barry Douglas. Rarely seen him hit a poor free kick. Seems a dying art in Scotland.
Don’t get me started on Celtic throw ins. ?
Celtic Throw-ins?
Big Roy Aitken!
Now there was a player who could take another team’s throw-ins!
Joe Miller1989.
I know he’s had a poor season compared to last and I’ve always had my doubts about him but I have a very, very strong feeling that Scott Sinclair is going to run riot against them on Sunday.
DD,
I have been watching Celtic for the best part of 60 years and I have never seen us taking good shies. In fact, we went out of the European Cup because of a poor one on one occasion.

tragic that he and his boy jeff both died so young 28 and 31.

Still the huns go on about that. 29 years ago ffs.
King – “Over the last year we have made significant strides off the pitch, but the on pitch progress has not been satisfactory due to unplanned changes to the football management structure and the negative impact this had on the playing staff.”

Yeah – such a blow, Mark Warburton “resigning” so suddenly…..
It will be a bit of job for the TO to distribute tickets for a League decider at Easter Road next weekend if that is indeed the fixture. I hope they manage it properly and nobody who deserves to go misses out.
one from Jeff Buckley

1968…Jeff was two years old, then. He met his father when he was 8 years old, and he spent just two weeks with him, for all his life. Two months later Tim died at the age of 27… So tragic for Jeff. He hurt so much. But these two wonderful musical souls will be always a big loss for music.

It was a bug bear of my late father too.
He started watching Celtic in the 1930s. KT seems to struggle at shies too. We cannae practice them in training??
Not surprising that they still haven’t announced the solution to the mess ‘the computer’ made to the SPL fixtures.
They’re so busy getting in Sevco home fixtures to play teams at iBrokes early doors in the season, they completely broke the fix this year.
Delicious irony that Sevco broke both their own and Rainjurz record, for points lost at home.

P341/17 Pet: The Panel on Takeovers & Mergers for Orders Sec955
Dentons
There can be little doubt that the Takeovers & Mergers Panel have had enough of King’s antics and are petitioning for contempt of court. They were last on Lady Wolffe’s docket list today and are probably being heard as I write.

Great choice, I first became aware of TB from John Lydon Capital radio playlist, which included TB, Captain Beefheart and various magic reggae guys like Dr Alimantado.
I was strongly influenced by Mr Lydon as the Young Starry Punk:))

Re short corners;
It seems to me the purpose of the short corner is to provide a different delivery into the box than that which the defence is set up for, thereby causing a bit of confusion in order to gain an advantage.
It needs to be done with a bit of speed and with a bit of a plan though ,which is where we fall down IMO.
I dont really recall Provan scoring many other free kicks.
it was a suprise when he scored.

To be fair, even after a magnificent result in the San Siro, we had no chance that night. With his senses scrambled by drink, a mate of my late father’s got him a ticket. He was well-known as a jinx, my dad, and duly delivered!
He hardly went to games, due to his job, maybe a dozen between 1967 and 1972.
Highlights included Celtic’s only home defeat of the 1966-67 season v Dundee United, only my second-ever game; the LC final v Thistle; the 6-1 SC win over Hibs (we turned back at the gates due to the crushing!); and the clincher, 3-0 v Rapid Vienna, where he said the jinx had finally been laid, but. . . . . . . . .he still put us out! ( Not with the plastic bottle, I hasten to add!)
Cheers Saint Stivs!
Yes, I was trying to think of others, but not picturing any.
Ping the corner hard to the penalty spot, let guys go and attack it, crossing a ball is a dying art…
BB
But it’s proof that these things even themselves out, isn’t it???
Bertie Auld!…………now there was a guy that could float a corner.
BB should be DD. 1234!
Pat Bonner mentioned recently on radio that players hate practicing set pieces. Not sure if it was a general point or Celtic related.

Still no fixtures. Bloody shambles.
I envisage the scenes inside the SPFL to be similar to ’12 Angry Men’ with PL’s agent playing Henry Fonda’s role.
They’ll be tying themselves in knots in there…
Come to think about it, CATCH-22 would be more appropriate.

We are due a decision against their tribute act.
Maybe Madhun on Sunday will oblige?
Aye right! ?
I was even more surprised than Frank McGarvey was, when his heider went in.
BSR
Not many strikers can give the ‘keeper ‘the eyes’ while performing a diving heider!
Wee Frank was eyeing up his new contract which sadly didn’t appear.
I loved that final.
