Ogilvie and Regan must now resign

968

What you and I have known for months was established as true by the BBC last night, Rangers improperly registered players for over a decade.  Following the programme there was some bluster by a firm of accountants who clearly have a lot to worry about, but nothing has been said to dispute the dual contract claim.

The SLP have not added to their 65 word statement released ahead of the broadcast.  SFA chief executive Stewart Regan has told the BBC the association will not act, unless called to do so as an appeal body, and SFA President What-school-did-you-go-to has not uttered a word.

Campbell Ogilvie was an executive director of Rangers when it carried out a dual contract system in contravention of the rules of the SFA.  This is an established fact which is likely to have severe repercussion for the Scottish game and the club.  It is inconceivable that he continues to act as president of the SFA, especially when it has taken the decision not to become involved, despite being the only body competent to investigate breaches across all domestic competitions.

He must resign immediately or be fired.  If Mr Regan does not understand this he should be fired too.  He is there to take the hard decisions, not to make friends.  He has abandoned fans at the time they most need clear leadership.

Anyone on the board in any doubt about this matter must follow them out the door.  The SFA is professional body with budget of millions of pounds, not an old boys club, and should act accordingly.

vhman tell us what you really think : ) . We are a broad church and there will be a wide opinion on how to deal with a governance decision from SPL and SFA that condones cheating. Most of us will have an opinion without bagging the opinion and actions of another Celt. For me when I come home next I will be getting a ticket for every game at paradise that I can. Whether I financially support another SPL team that supports a shame game will be another matter.

  7. Morning,

Here we have it, Duff&Duffer believed nothing would come of the SPL investigation as Ogilvie would see to that. Corrupt and rotten to the core.

David Roberts, of the legal firm,

Olswang, that represented Bill Miller during

his bid for the Ibrox side and held

discussions with the SPL. “What Duff &

Phelps said to us was that there may be

    some reticence pushing the investigation

forward because a beneficiary of the EBT

payments [Campbell Ogilvie] was now on

the SFA board, but we saw no evidence of

that. My genuine belief was that this was an

issue that gave rise to a potential breach of

the rules and the SPL were discharging their

governing body duties by looking at it. It

may also breach the SFA rules as well. It

was something being taken very seriously by

    the authorities.”

Amongst all the memorable thoughts that come flooding back today as I think back on that sunny day in Lisbon is the scene at the airport as we tried to board any plane back to Glasgow.

Everywhere was chaos, people were just being put on any old plane.

It may seem odd but I had no idea who had actually scored the winning goal despite not being very far from the action and quite unbelievably none of us discussed the game in any kind of detail after the match such was our state of euphoria.

Well into the airport came the Celtic team with their wives and girlfriends. The latter group were being sent home that night in advance of the team. Well in the chaos further chaos developed. The team were mobbed. The late Bobby Rooney was crying and he was trying to protect Bobby Murdoch. I got to Bobby and asked him the question. Who scored the winning goal? On my Dad’s grave he answered ” Celtic scored the winner “. Class Bobby.

On the plane I discovered that whilst all of my family ( Gordon are you reading and remembering this ) safely jumped the moat and got onto the pitch my uncle John fell in the ditch and was carted off but my older brother, Jim , actually made it into the dressing room and was with the players.

    Unimaginable joy, amongst unimaginable chaos.

Hail, hail, the Celts are here.

  12. midfield maestro

Don’t know if the late John Rafferty was the greatest ever but he was streets ahead of the present bunch, and courageous. Like this:

    The Scotsman, Friday, May23, 1969

    ANIMALS OF OUR FOOTBALL JUNGLE

NOT so long ago, we were talking of football animals from another continent and sneering about moats and wire fences to keep them in their compounds; then, suddenly, at Newcastle there was the need for the moat or a fence and the realisation that here in Britain there was a football jungle.

There should have been no surprise, for the frenzied ex¬tremists who have attached themselves to the Rangers Football Club have grown in numbers, in arrogance, and in ferocity—and they seemed to be all in Newcastle.

The road to St James Park from the station was an ominous journey for those who could read the signs. From the pubs along the way spilled frenzied drunken supporters. In their hands were clasped the clear-glass beer bottles with the patent heavy brew peculiar to the area.

    MOB LAW

Policemen patently not used to such characters were pushed aside with contempt and seemed terrified to exert any authority, and so mob law was established.

In St James Park there was a like situation. The trouble area was easily identified, yet the police left it almost uncontrolled. Glasgow police would have been quickly in among them I and arrested a score or so just to show who was the boss. There were ample wild characters misbehaving suffici-ently before play began to warrant multiple arrests.

In the final break-in, the police tried pathetically to coax the roused invaders back on to the terracing, and it was not until they were hurt and bulled that they got into the mood to be sufficiently tough to get results.

    HEAVY PRICE

I have been under fire in a football riot in Montevideo, caught up in a night of terror and hate in Cologne, worried in the wild Prater Stadium in Vienna, but never so sickened as I was in Newcastle; It was hard to stomach the pseudo-front of religion and the wild singing of Ulster party songs that was the front for unbridled disorder.

The hooligans who invaded the field did so flying the Union Jack and the Lion Rampant of Scotland, and the air reeked with hypocrisy and ignorance, sacrilege and arro¬gance. Rangers are indeed paying a heavy price for the traditional religious policy of the club; and the worst is yet to come, for the extremists who have attached themselves to the club grow in numbers and in viciousness.

    NO JOKE

And then after the match there was the walk back to the hotel and, for the first time; fear. Drunks prowled the streets in packs hunting for trouble, and suddenly I remembered that often I am mistaken for Jock Stein. Usually that is fun, but in that scene of havoc such a mistaken identity would have been no joke.

And then in the hotel there was the usual telephone call to report home and my wife, who had watched television, asked: “Where are you?” “In the hotel,” I said, “Stay there!” she ordered; and I did.

ok my Celtic friend, I will be happy to travel from england to scotland to play a seasons worth of friendlies before our world famous Glasgow Celtic move to another football association in …… ANY……. other country, honesty and integrity is so important in an open and fair football competition, its very plain to see that the Scottish Football Association cannot provide thar basic premise.

I am saying what I think, I WILL support Celtic football club if they walk away from the corruption that pervades the SPL (joke) and the SFA (who is the President… remind me).

Scottish football = corruption on an industrial scale

Biggest problem i had was trying to get my two older brothers and my uncle to the airport ,they were drunk as lords . with good reason mind you , just made it back in time to head to parkhead for the parade . waving my wee green and white crepe paper thingy (dont know what to call it), any you mind them . thanks for that mate .

Can i please ask why oh why are UEFA not getting involved in this proven cheating by the orcs. The mob that are supposed to govern scottish football are part of the problem and should be viewed as such .They cant be trusted to rule without fear or favour ,so IT MUST BE TAKEN OUT THERE HANDS .AND IT MUST BE DONE NOW . And the pressure must be kept on ogilvie . This man should be sacked , but they are all involved all covering one anothers back .

For my sins I volunteered to “do” the year 1972 for the Celtic Wiki and this involved scanning newspaper clips from the library and as they weren’t good enough to copy I transcribed them.

So much of your late uncle’s work is on the Wiki for that year and it is good to know that Celtic fans of today and the future ones will be able to see what it was like when real journalists reported football matches.

I thought that the last paragraph in the Newcastle article was brilliant. It encapsulated the mood of fear that pervaded that night. Great stuff.

  31. Read a supplement celebrating the anniversary of Lisbon, they interviewed the players who had taken part, including the inter players, the full back,Burgnich, told how, with 8 mins to go,the goalie pulled off yet, another save,he heard the captain,Mazzola, say,” let it go”,meaning, they could not face extra time, such was the nature of the beating they were taking,” I never thought I would hear my captain say that”, he said, they knew that extra time would only bring further punishment, quite simply, the greatest EC final ever played, god bless every single player who took part, but, especially, the finest manager who ever lived,JOCK STEIN.
