The 20% is a Country’s Club calculation – not the National Team.
Example – Celtic earn 20pts – the 3 other SPL Teams earn 1.5pts – therefore the Club National coefficient (20% element) = 20% of 21.5 = 4.3pts.
Hence the reason the EPL 20% is so high. Off the top of my head (past 5 years) – Man Utd win (Chelski get to final) – Man Utd lose in final – Chelski win CL – Chelski win Europa (+ think there were a few 1/4s + semis in there).
Part of the reason that; Spurs and Newcastle enjoyed high coefficients – and why we are handicapped by Motherwell – last season played 4 – lost 4 (scored nil) and ZERO coefficient points.

Few years back Toottenham bought Polish striker Rasiak. He played couple of games for Spurs. Before Rasiak signed for Spurs we had many jokes about Rasiak> People called him deadwood etc. Why they signed him? I do not know. Everybody here knew he was average striker but not Spurs.
The same is with Tonev. He is talented player , but really nothing speacial. Is this not strange that someboy is going to pay more than 3 million GBP for the player who is not regular starter, for not best team in poor league?

True – I was making the point about the 20% coefficient factor (should probably have went with semis + the odd final). :-)
Sadly it’s our own SPL clubs that really drag us down. While Scotland scored 4.3 this year – think all the German teams will rack up 17+ points (before their own coefficient is added) thanks to BM and BD.

One of my favourite “derby” games.
John Clark pulled Deedle Henderson down in the box for the penalty.
Celtic end erupted when Kai made a complete hash of the rebound.
After the game we had to walk through the Rangers end to get to our car.
There was mayhem among their fans, fighting, arguing and possibly a stabbing.
They had just seen their team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Question: Who from Celtic, who is not regular starter is most valuable player, and what is his price for him?
I’m asking becouse Aleksandar Tonev is not regular starter for Lech.
Celtic team is worth all together probably four times more than Lech Poznan. Celtic game is few shelfs up from Lech game.
3,2 miilion GBP for not regular starter at Lech is just crazy. Lech coach knows that Tonev is not worth first XI, Lech supporters know that, Polish football experts know that. What Villa know that we don’t know?
