On signing from domestic rivals

816

There are limits to how far we can recruit from our domestic market and continue to prosper.  Martin O’Neill preferred to sign players his teams had faced, which meant Hibs and St Johnstone being plundered, eventually leading to decline.  Gordon Strachan enjoyed watching Hibs all his life; it showed in his Celtic signings.

Rumour has it when Jock Stein signed Willie Wallace from Hearts in 1966 his timing was determined by the need to deny a rival Wallace’ signature.  Neil Lennon should find it easy to compete with the likes of Derby County, if he is motivated to do so.

Enjoy the fantastic clips of Willie Wallace below from the 1960s.  You’ll have seen many before but the clip of him beating three Celtic defenders before scoring was new to me.  It might have been the goal which convinced Jock to move.

  2. If Shiels is right and we run the SFA and Scottish football then I have two questions

    1. Why the F*** did we grant Sevco a license.

    2. Why are we constantly hounding our own manager on ridiculous charges.

    Absolutely

Off hhe top of my head, Arsenal have done nothing of significance in CL since losing to Barca (and Our Hero) in the 2006 final

Year after year they end up a Pot 1 team and get papped oot in the last 16

Take a look at the Bert Kassie site and check out the projected Pot 3 teams and their coefficients – what would have been enough to get a Pot 2 seeding now is mid range pot 3.

Consequently – where we could previously have been in pot 3 with a coefficient in mid 40s, that would keep us in pot 4 these days

Repeat – irrespective of how it’s worked out, our good 2013 ranking is running to stand still as it merely replaces the good mark from 2008.

At least another good CL run required in next couple of years in order to make significant coefficient progress

The best way to destroy your enemy is to make them your friend

    Correction Victor,

The best way to destroy your enemy is to win the Big Cup.

  16. Miss Smith asked her second graders to draw a picture showing what they wanted to be when they grew up. Madeleine Martin, seven years old, turned in this drawing:

Why you should check your kid’s homework

Miss Smith was shocked. She sent a note home to the girl’s mother asking for clarification.

The following day the teacher received this reply:

    Dear Miss Smith,

I wish to assure you that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer. I work at Home Depot, and I told Madeleine how hectic it was last week right before the big blizzard hit. We thought we’d sold every snow shovel we had in stock, but then I found one more in the back room, and several customers were fighting over who would get it. Madeleine’s drawing doesn’t show me dancing around a pole. It shows me selling the last snow shovel Home Depot had. From now on I will check her homework more carefully before she turns it in.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Martin

Under the fair play rules, you are not supposed to read the captions! Bad show!

And that’s Platini having made things fairer

The non-champions now have to play fellow non-champions

Platini’s sop to the diddy countries is that diddy champions play other diddy champions to get access to the CL

The effect of this is that the likes of Dinamo Zagreb and others have been in group stage last two seasons and can’t be competitive – off top of my head, DZ got one point this year and lost all 6 games last year.

This should be the last time we need to play 3 rounds for access.
