There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle? News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.
This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid. It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.
The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation. We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances. If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face. Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.
That will have consequences for us. Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete. 35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.
They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it. I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.
Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it? Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

Berlin – Germany’s Bundesliga has posted record earnings from foreign television rights this season and will break the 50-million-euro (72.3 million dollars) mark next season.
Bundesliga matches were watched by 2.25 billion television viewers in 208 countries last season, the German Football League (DFL) said Wednesday.
‘We are currently the strongest growing league,’ DFL chairman Christian Seifert said.
However, the German league still lags behind England’s Premier League and the Spanish and Italian leagues on earnings from international broadcasting rights.
Seifert said the German league would need more star players if it wanted to attract more international viewers.
‘It is great for (Germany midfielder Mesut) Oezil that he is playing for Real Madrid but for the Bundesliga it would better if he were playing here,’ he said.
Foreign television rights made up around 11 per cent of the league’s turnover last season. Next season, income from international broadcasting rights will top 50 million euros.
The rights will be newly negotiated for a three-season term from 2011-2012 when Seifert said he expected ‘two digit growth.’
Germany is still a long way behind the Premier League which earns some 300 million euros from foreign TV marketing, around a third of its turnover. Spain has estimated earnings of 150 million euros and Italy between 90 and 100 million.
The DFL Bundesliga package not only includes live coverage but highlight shows, a TV magazine and other material.
Bayern Munich continues to be the Bundesliga’s main attraction. The German champions were in all eight of the most viewed matches last season. The most-watched match was between Hertha Berlin and Bayern which had 10 million viewers in China alone.

I have always said I have no problems with hos the club is run financially except the bonus reward for failure.
I think the 50 quid ST for kids was a give away and I support the increase in price of that particular ticket but not how it was handled. The fact that WE are still advertising them on the official website at 50 quid is EMBARRASSING
Fortunately Celtic have a lot of fans that need to keep the faith.
Bang for buck is where we fail.
There is no glamour friendly lined up against Championship opposition this season so I do not expect any incoming transfers.

That we are still advertising the 50 quid tickets on the official site but charging fathers 129 quid when they turn up at the turnstiles is absolutely expected behaviour from Celtic plc.
