Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

    50 million euro

Berlin – Germany’s Bundesliga has posted record earnings from foreign television rights this season and will break the 50-million-euro (72.3 million dollars) mark next season.

Bundesliga matches were watched by 2.25 billion television viewers in 208 countries last season, the German Football League (DFL) said Wednesday.

‘We are currently the strongest growing league,’ DFL chairman Christian Seifert said.

However, the German league still lags behind England’s Premier League and the Spanish and Italian leagues on earnings from international broadcasting rights.

Seifert said the German league would need more star players if it wanted to attract more international viewers.

‘It is great for (Germany midfielder Mesut) Oezil that he is playing for Real Madrid but for the Bundesliga it would better if he were playing here,’ he said.

Foreign television rights made up around 11 per cent of the league’s turnover last season. Next season, income from international broadcasting rights will top 50 million euros.

The rights will be newly negotiated for a three-season term from 2011-2012 when Seifert said he expected ‘two digit growth.’

Germany is still a long way behind the Premier League which earns some 300 million euros from foreign TV marketing, around a third of its turnover. Spain has estimated earnings of 150 million euros and Italy between 90 and 100 million.

The DFL Bundesliga package not only includes live coverage but highlight shows, a TV magazine and other material.

Bayern Munich continues to be the Bundesliga’s main attraction. The German champions were in all eight of the most viewed matches last season. The most-watched match was between Hertha Berlin and Bayern which had 10 million viewers in China alone.

All of the comparisons of ST prices fade into insignificance when you look at the diffirence in media income.

As a club we should probably hope for a collapse in the collective Sky deal. I imagine a massive increase in our media income if we could negotiate it alone. Although I suspect we may not see a similarly massive drop in ST prices.

  16. It’s an interesting thought that we could be watching, right reasons or not, the decline of Scottish football.

With overall Custodians trying to gamble and offset 3 years in the wilderness for a team inhabiting the husk of an old idea.

A team who’s ever present superiority complex was ultimately matched by one man’s vanity. Each desiring to exist at whatever the cost.

Fan power will dissipate. And that ole war horse Celtic will be to blame – monopolising the game with their balanced books and relative shrewdness.

It should not be long until we are told that it was, in fact, those ‘fivers’ which Fergus kept putting down which brought all this unfortunate business in the first place.

    A bizzare article Paul.

Perhaps there is a cryptic agenda at play, but ultimately it is a pointless notion.

England do not want or need us. End of. Everyone just needs to accept that.

A league in mainland Europe is categorically not an option due to logistics, and the small matter of rules not permitting it.

Any new ‘European’ league structure is years away.

We are a Scottish club playing in a Scottish league. Let’s just get on with it.

  29. Paul67,

My machine has informed me of your query

‘Whatever our game looks like in the future’

I bring excellent news Great timlord. From your present until 2109 Scottish football will remain the laughing stock of the continent you know as Europe.

Fortunately for Scottish football, but not quite so fortunate for mainland europe ‘The Big Sink’ enables Scottish football to become the 8th best football nation behind england, Ireland, wales, russia, ukraine, israel and turkey within the remains of Europe.

As you may not be aware due to your inferior cranial intellect of 3.2 ‘The Big Sink’ was a catastrophe of biblical proportions, when an earthquake hit directly under FIFA headquarters in Switzerland, whatever that is, devastating the European mainland continent which sank into the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean, North, Baltic and Black Seas forming the new Cosmopolitan Ocean.

I can also confirm that the cryogenic Sepp Platini was the first to perish in the event when he attempted to retrieve classified material relating to Platini’s acceptance of millions of potatos in bribes, predominantly from hunverse agents desperate to equal CelticFc’s illustrious 10 Champions, SuperChampions & OnlyForChampions League titles.

In sadder news for Scottish football though, by 2114, after the last survivor is plucked from their traumatic survival of bobbing around the planets oceans after being transported globally by gulf streams work begins on the ‘Atlantis’ project. A mammoth task of land reclamation to build a new continent located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

By 2135 and the establishment of Atlantis as the new Europe and it’s teams being allowed to play in the tournaments it’s predecessor continent vacated, teams such as Bayern Bru, Outer Milan and Real Balona emerge to dominate and once again force Scottish football back to being a laughing stock.

In better news though, by 2140 and the emergence of farcaster technology, a technology that allows an individual to enter a farcaster portal and be immediately transported to a set of co-ordinates, anywhere on the planet, there is a convergence of all world football leagues into one entity. The International Football Association Federation or IFAF as you will come to know it.

On the downside of the farcaster technology it can lead to awkward moments if your co-ordinates are incorrect as I found out one day when attending a CelticFc match at New Paradise and was transported onto the lap of a young female who was in my seat.

Incidentally, as you may also not be aware IFAF’s first presiding officer is none other than Henrik Larrson, grandson of Henrik Larrson, who was the grandson of Jordan Larsson, son of Henrik Larrson who played for CelticFc.

You may also be glad to know that after the formation of IFAF and the World Leagues and the influx of potatos into Scottish Football from Hypnobeam broadcasts Scottish football enters a glorious phase of wellbeing which lasts for nearly 200 plasmaball annual traverses.

With that news I must return to my duties Great timlord, My iBrain2 has notified me that hunverse agents are again attempting to subvert the timverse, until we communicate again, inform your descendants not to holiday in Spain, whatever that is, in 2109.

    To Infinity & backwards!!
