I’m getting beside myself with annoyance at the emergence of blog and online distractions ahead of the most important game of the season. Darling-Salmond do not get my heart pounding, Henrik Larsson’s summer conversation with Celtic (he was asked if he was interested, he said he’s not ready, nothing more than that), and despite the need to sign players, they would be pointless if we don’t win tonight.
This is our Cup Final, our biggest game of the season by some margin. This game determines what pace our development project proceeds at, what players we can attract and who we can afford. For the season ahead, this is our α and Ω.
For the players, it is a joy. A gift. This is their chance to perform a task they are more than capable of in front of an appreciative crowd. For Ronny and Johnny, it is their first stake in the ground.
Don’t assume it will be straightforward. It could be a long night, we may lose the first goal, but it takes a brave team to leave Celtic Park with the spoils on a European night. We have to remain patient early on; Maribor will tire as the game progresses. The final 15 minutes should be Celtic’s most productive.
Enjoy the game.

Good news. on CG
It is pretty obvious that the greatest risk to our not qualifying is the timing of those games. By football rights tonight should be an EL qualifying game but lady luck has shone on us.
That is why RD has suggested emulating the Nordic football seasons.
When we win through tonight, by the time we play the first group game we could be doing so with a team not just sharper and fitter, but different in the personnel available given who we are looking to sign and return of Brown and hopefully Forrest to fitness.
Given the apparent recruitment activity there has to be reasons that have stopped it starting earlier.
Not sure what they are but it makes no sense to add further risk to not qualifying if it were possible to refresh the team at least 2 months in advance of the qualifying games.
Most of us popping in and out of the blog making an odd comment are doing so just to calm our nerves. My way of staying calm is to keep telling myself we are at least in the Group stages of Europa and with a few new lads coming in, we could give that one a right rattle, if things go pear shaped tonight.
Got ma head out the bog

Thanks for the info.
On a more positive note. Could Peter Lawell actually be about to make a massive splodge of Wonga on players?
We’re now reading about the Polish striker from Lech Poznan as well as Sepicovic from Sporting Hee Hong? If it comes to pass some of our strikers are likely to leaving at the weekend.
I honestly don’t see a problem tonight, I’m looking at a Celtic win, score? Haven’t a scoobie, but a Celtic win is a certainty no if no buts no extra time no pens. A 90 mins. Exhibition of pure fan passion, and the Glasgow Celtic way of winning big games, so looking forward to it, lurking Huns GIRFUYs

Another goalscoring forward ?? It’ll never catch on.
Tony Watt has gone, Balde and Pukki look like leaving and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Griffiths go too (just wonder if there is a clash there).
I’m not surprised we’d go for another forward and I like the look of the 2 we are after. Bit of pedigree the previous ones didn’t have.

In advance of this evening, lest I forget, Stokes is crap.
I have him as first scorer and 2-1.

Thanks for that
Just wondering what time Club Deck opens if I’ve missed the answer sorry
Thanks again
I have consistantly said this time next year the majority of the Celtic side will have changed and we will be playing a different type of football.H.H.
The final 15 minutes should be Celtic’s most productive.
Actually the whole 95 mins should be their most productive….?
Players should be crawling off the pitch tonight having given everything they have.. Which is more than they think they have.
Anything less is not acceptable.
If Celtic give their all it should be too much for Maribor. One thing we can bank on the Maribor players will have a do or die attitude…why wouldn’t they ?

If true, and we are looking to bring in two strikers then that’ll be Balde, Pukki and one from Stokes or Griffiths on the way out.
Balde & Pukki already linked with loan moves away (who in their right mind would buy them and pay them the wages they are probably on). Griffiths back on loan to Hibs, or Stokes off to Cardiff in swap deal with Kim Bo Ygung?

At least we know if Celtic win tonight the SMSM will be fullsome in it’s praise for plucky minnows Maribor but should it go the other way it will be all guns blazing for Ronny’s Rockets…… :-(
Like some on here, it will be best to ignore either way.
The sun is out and it’s Celtic in Europe tonight. What’s not to like? :-)
Right. I`m off. Still confident.

Still plenty of tickets available tonight in the upper tier corners if you know people looking for tickets.

So is it farewell then Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde?
What a shame, both seem like solid pros, and there’s talent there somewhere.
But just not good enough for us.
If we could get money for either that would be a bonus.

A goat! Ah, it’s so simple, why didn’t I think of that. It would have saved me a tenner!
Keep a clean sheet and we are through.
It’s that simple.
I fancy the Hoops to get an early goal and win on the night be a couple of goals. Don;t think there is much to fear from this team tonight and Paradise is a huge difference from Murrayfield. I’m going for a 3-0 win for the Hoops.

If PL does sign these two – and I agree they appear to have dome quality – and they are a success, Big Peter will go from zero to hero overnight on here with some posters but usual suspects not included.
re: referendum
Paul67, Ernie Lynch & Italiabhoy are so dismissive of the referendum debate they’re still talking about it.
If the three of them are so enamoured with all things better together, why don’t they post daily updates from the Commons and the Lords?
It might have something to do with those in the Commons and the Lords think it’s perfectly acceptable to claim expenses daily for a breakfast at £38 a pop, whereas Alex Salmond trusted the people he was speaking to last night, something completely unheard of in UK politics.
Such that the point of the night with the man in the audience asking if we’re so better together, why are we not better together right now.
Salmond trusted the audience by making philosophical points of his own and received philosophical points from the audience in return.
I’m voting yes for no reason other than it’ll be the 1st time I’ll have participated in anything approaching the democracy which is supposedly the greatest doctrine of all time. It’s so great it’s rarely practiced. Here’s to it not being the one and only time.

I am confident of celtic winning tonight. Though I expect Maribor to be different than last week. They will play to hit us on the break. I also expect them to better than they were in the first leg
Against Legia I had my carry out handy for both legs and we all know what happened!!!
Last week and tonight no devils buttermilk near me.
Italiabhoy
I’m a glass half full sort of guy but I have seen nothing in Amido that suggests he knows what a football is ?
Whoever was responsible for that debacle needs chased. I’m hoping that he’s a watershed moment for our pursuit of incredibly rough diamonds out there. We need to be cleverer than this with our funds.

“Salmond trusted the audience by making philosophical points of his own and received philosophical points from the audience in return.”
Can I have some of what you’re smoking. Please?
RWE at 13:45. Nice one. Laughed out loud!
Big way,
I hear you, but I do suspect NFL simply didn’t want Amido, and so we never really saw what he could do.
Maybe he was a dud, but I think his record in Portugal was not bad…
Disappointing whatever the reason.
With all due respect Paul…
“he was asked if he was interested, he said he’s not ready, nothing more than that”
Here is todays much publicized Henrik quote…
“Yes I declined the Celtic job this summer. This was something I had to think about. In the end, I chose to remain at Falkenberg.”
Apologies to all for the distraction from tonight’s main event..
I don’t even know where Airdrie is
That’s too far away for an Ayrshire boy to travel I’ll just watch it on the telly :-))
In fact I might just go to the big local derby Ayr v Killie

Any spares on the go?
2nd call for any CQN’ers in London tonight who want to take in the game somewhere.
THE GREEN AND WHITE TIGER.
I used to go to the Marquis too,but back in the 90s.
Spice of Life was always fun too.
Anyway, here’s a coupla suggestions for tonight.
My choice would be Wimbledon. But make sure the underground is running.
Cost me a fortune the last time because of that!
