Our redoubtable former manager

1226

No one on Celtic Quick News ever doubted Gordon Strachan, did they?

It’s been a long 8 years since that dark week but our former manager demonstrated enormous resilience to win three consecutive league titles and twice qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.  He is perfect for the Scotland role, although, to be frank, I didn’t think his squad had last night’s result in them.  Well done to all.

We have a special Father’s Day offer for the Willie Wallace book.  Order between now and Thursday morning and we’ll include a Father’s Day card, complete with your own message. See the big graphic to the right..

You can choose from two cards, see explanation and choices here, one with Tony Watt after scoring against some Spanish lot, the other with Billy McNeill receiving some trophy or other.

Click on the button below, enter the text you would like to appear in the middle of the card, and Tony will post your book off in time for Father’s Day.

Hi ST, it is good to see you back on the blog, I hope you and yer family are doing well.

  4. I'm Neil Lennon (tamrabam) on

absolutely delighted to charlottes revelations being given a good airing on here

you know we have/had a lot of big hitters on here. Guys who can articulate and can organise. many of these fullahs spend their cyber time elsewhere nowadays but it would be beneficial to the celtic family if some of these guys gave us the benefit of their abilities and concentrated in raising the matters of sfa/spl collusion and mismanagement on this fine blog and others similar fine sites too

we would forever be walking around a big mountain of dirt, if we allowed this to be swept under the carpet

furthermore, the sfa/spl masonics would be untouchable going forward if they are allowed to get away with this and celtic history would look back and wonder why the bampots “couldnae be arsed” when they had the opportunity to sort something out and clean the slate

    howabout it?

  5. .

Summer, but no time for holidays

IT was a polished performance from a man at ease with his position, and only once did Neil Lennon look weary during his protracted media duties last week.

It happened when he mentioned that he would like to start recruiting new players by the time his Celtic squad reconvene for training at Lennoxtown on June 20.

June 20? “Yes, June 20,” he replied, suddenly looking like he could do with a break.

Last season went so smoothly, leaving Lennon in such a position of strength and so satisfied in his role – he admits it would be a “massive wrench” to leave Parkhead for brighter lights – that it would be easy to forget Celtic’s next competitive game in five-and-a-half weeks’ time will be season-defining, as will the five subsequent Champ-ions League qualifying legs the club must negotiate (if they get that many) to keep their manager in his present contented state.

Asked to underline his ambitions for the club at the launch event for the August 10 “Dublin Decider” friendly with Liverpool, he said: “I’d like us to be consistently in the group stages of the Champions League and that’s very difficult because the coefficient works against us.

“Last year we had two qualifiers, this year we have three and they’re very fraught because they’re basically your first competitive games and a hell of a lot hinges on them.

“But that’s really where I’d like us to be – getting to the group stages again would be a huge shot in the arm for our season going forward. And obviously domestically we want to be the dominant force.

“It won’t be long before Rangers come back and that will give the Scottish game an edge again, but in the short term we would like to be consistently in the group stages again.”

It doesn’t take much ingenuity to work out why Lennon, for all that he is at ease with the stability of his employment, hasn’t gone on holiday.

How could he recline on a lilo reading a book when he has to prepare his players for their attempt to reach the world’s leading club competition next month?

“We had our fingers burned before. Bratislava, Basle. They’re dangerous games. The most pressure I felt last season in any game was the Helsingborgs game,” he said.

“There was so much riding on it. This year the pressure was alleviated a little bit because of the run we had last year but again, [due to] what we achieved, the expectation becomes that little bit higher from outside influences.

“We’ll be hoping to add new faces to the squad that will hopefully make us better.”

Unless people – with will and conviction – organise to act to conclusion as opposed to individual rants and raves, regardless of justification and impressive articulation, then I doubt we will ever see any appropriate or meaningful change, of any kind, in response to the chicanery from multiple quarters.

The nation is being held to ridicule and it is the nation’s reputation that is being smeared by the deceits of shameless and apathetic individuals, companies and authorities and silence encourages them.

The pound is their god with shame a virtue that they arrogantly disdain. The only way to achieve any measure of redress is to deprive them of their god.

I don’t know how to achieve this but for it to be done at all then the talking must stop and those who want to see justice done must start walking down retributions road.

Maybe we could begin by actually doing something. I’d rather do something – anything – rather than do nothing more than bleat.

Two e-petitions – one to parliament asking why, after all the recent revelations, companies are allowed to brazenly continue to publicly trade and the second: (in support of Auldheids original suggestion) a registered petition to William Hills expressing disgust at their continued support of a corrupt organisation which in turn supports the corrupted.

This is not about Rangers; it is so much more than that irrelevance. There’s no point in a few dozen signing such petitions, for them to be of any worth, they require tens of thousands of signatures before they become effective.

Being a Celtic Supporter need not be a prerequisite to signing; all that is required is a true and burning desire for isonomy.

Is such a notion no more than a football supporter’s chimeric prayer?

We need to get organised if we want to drive change in our game.

Unfortunately not enough people read this type of blog so might not be fully aware of Charlottes revelations and the skullduggery at hampden and ibrox

We need to canvas and publicise these issues. . Not just to celtic fans but to Scottish football fans in general. Be that through their blogs and supporters clubs.

Ideas on a postcard please. … we have celts who know fans from most clubs. Those clubs have sites like this. !!!!

We have our supporters association… can we get a letter / e mail / petition that members can use to notify uefa of the day issues

Over the last few years a number of celts have shown organisational skills and determination to plan charitable events and campaigns for kano / wee oscar etc. Surely we have the skills and passion to mount a campaign for our great sport to be fair and governed correctly.

Sorry I dont have the answers but between us im sure we do.

SFA no need for further discussion? Charlotte has revealed Regan and the SFA are in this mire of lies far too deep, the 5 way agreement meant ripping up the rulebook to save a President compromised beyond saving! the SFA sold their soul and the heart of Scottish football to the sevconian spivs, the SPL was complicit in the sell out and this deal was only halted by fan power.

As you say, there is no-one in the MSM courageous enough – with the notable execption of Ch4’s Alex Thomson – to take this on.

The only way that the corrupt SFA will ever change is by pressure from the grassroots, i.e., from the fans and by pressure from UEFA.

For the time being, UEFA seem to be turning a blind eye: they too are failing in their duty.

Maybe it’s time for fans groups from all (interested) clubs to start asking UEFA serious questions regarding the outfit currently in place at SFA headquarters.

Regan and the SFA tackling sectarianism HA HA HA

    By ALAN PATTULLO

    Published on 09/06/2013 00:00

TOUGH new laws on dealing with racism, sectarianism and other forms of unacceptable behaviour in football will be voted on at Tuesday’s annual general meeting of the Scottish Football Association at Hampden Park.

Last month’s FIFA Congress agreed strict punishments for tackling racist incidents and “other forms of discriminatory behaviour”, including the possibility of points deductions and expulsions, the introduction of anti-discrimination officers at games, a minimum five-match ban for players guilty of racial abuse, harsher financial penalties and a hotline for players and fans to report racism.

These measures are, Stewart Regan, the SFA chief executive, has confirmed, “the big ticket item” which FIFA is presently focusing on. Now Regan wants Scottish sides to adopt “strict liability” in dealing with racism and sectarianism, so incidents are the responsibility of the clubs, regardless of measures they have adopted to tackle the problem.

He said: “At the moment we have rules where clubs are allowed to defend a case based on having taken all reasonably practicable steps in order to make sure there’s no unacceptable conduct.

“The Scottish FA haven’t had one prosecution against those rules. On the one hand, you could say that the clubs are doing a fantastic job and doing everything they possibly can. But, on the other, you could say the rules aren’t powerful enough or strong enough to stamp things out.

“What we’re trying to do is get our members to consider the concept of strict liability, which is very similar to how UEFA approach things. Strict liability starts with the basis that something has happened that is unacceptable and needs to be dealt with,” he added.

Recent incidents that would fall within this bracket include the incident with a fan and Celtic manager Neil Lennon, during a Hearts v Celtic fixture at Tynecastle two years ago. Hearts escaped punishment for this intrusion into the technical area by the supporter because an investigation by the Scottish Premier League board concluded “the action taken by each club before, during and since the match was reasonable in all the circumstances”.

Sanctions imposed on a club or representative team will in principle be issued in a two-stage approach: for a first or minor offence, the sanctions of a warning, a fine, and/or the playing of a match behind closed doors should be applied. For re-offenders, or for serious incidents, sanctions such as a points deductions, expulsion from a competition or relegation should be applied.

“What you present to the judicial panel is all the facts and if the club have done everything they can, clearly they will be given the benefit of doubt,” explained Regan. “However, if the same club and the same offences are committed and the same excuses about ‘doing all we can’ get said then something more needs to be done.”

With a 75 per cent vote required to pass these resolutions, Regan is conscious that it is far from certain clubs will agree to tough new sanctions. But, he asked, does that mean they should not try to push these new laws through?

“People will say: ‘what’s the point of putting it forward, members will vote it down’. Do we say, therefore, that we should just stand back and not bother? The world governing body [FIFA] and European body [UEFA] will come down in the future and make it mandatory, and then we have no choice. We would rather take responsibility for own affairs and move them forward.”

so it looks like Charlotte has info on the sfa giving the huns a licence in 2011 and doing us out of Champions league money in the process.this also means they got a helping hand to stay alive a short while longer.i hope more info comes forward so our club can take legal action against the sfa who are in deep with the huns..i still cannot get my head round this decretive 5 way agreement to help one cheating club and NO one has done a thing about it!!if they get to come through this unchalenged then theyl get away with anything they like..while we all sit about and talk.season books have all been bought so no threat can be used there like last year..we need to march on hampden and protest against this corruption once and for all or the game is well and truely KO d

  25. Informed comment please?

Is there any doubt, from listening to the Charlotte tapes, that it is Craigy carrying the recording device? Is Charlotte another source, other than Craigy, who is doing the whistle-blowing? Is this being done with Craigy’s consent, ‘cos it suits his ongoing legal ploys?
