Patrick, Moussa, Dedryck and Scott Brown

After the turmoil of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic return to domestic duty tomorrow with the visit of Ross County. County won on the opening day of the season but have taken only one point from 15 since. They have been a soft touch for several teams in crisis recently, so in theory, this looks like a straightforward challenge for the champions.

This is the first of two games in the next five days, the other, a League Cup tie away to bottom club Dundee. After this, we go to Ibrox then Brussels. Without wanting to be overfly disrespectful to Ross County or Dundee (or, indeed, overly respectful to Newco), we should have two objectives for the next two games:

Rest limbs and minds which have been intensely exercised by international and Champions League football.

Intensely exercise limbs that have seen little action this season. Specifically Dedryck Boyata, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts.

Patrick could do with a full 90 minutes. He was our best performer on Tuesday, but he’s clearly suffering from a lack of game time. Dedryck has targeted a starting place at Ibrox for months. To achieve this, he will need to play a lot of football this week.

There’s no guarantee Moussa would dislodge Leigh Griffiths from the line-up at Ibrox, even if fully fit, but the Champions League game away to Anderlecht is a different tie. This has to be his target, which leaves little time to build his sharpness.

Perhaps most importantly of all, I would rest Scott Brown tomorrow. The games ahead are simply too important to have images of a fatigued Scott fresh in the mind. Brendan should also consider a place for Lustig, Armstrong and Tierney on the bench.

Win tickets for Ibrox

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two tickets for the visit to Ibrox on 23 September to raffle for Mary’s Meals. You know the script:

Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat a school meal each day because of the money raised by CQN’ers.

You are improving lives, educating a generation in some of the most deprived locations in the world. School attendance has increased an average of 30%, literacy and numeracy skills improve. Life-long opportunities are enhanced.

To enter the raffle, answer this question:

Which Belgian team will Celtic face in this season’s Champions League?

Please donate a minimum of £5 to this MyDonate page. Then forward your confirmation email with your answer in the SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks to you and Intelligent Car Leasing.

  1. Lots of replays of the jag man not getting sent off, only a couple of the jag man getting sent off, thing that gets me is week in week out I see tackles like the sending off and the referee gives nothing, the hun rode the tackle and was never touched.

Par for the course when the huns are involved

CRC has my mob , if you are at a lose end give me a bell

I’m sure both of you can arrange to meet up after the match

  3. Sevco looked reasonably competent at times in the first half but the second half until the man was sent off it was all thistle and they had no answers.

I think they are better than last season but then again look at their opening fixtures to this point. Similar to last season when they had an ‘easy’ run of games before playing us. Nobody seems to notice that it’s happened again this season because we have been too busy laughing at them and not ‘worrying’ about them. Rightly so.

Pittodrie, Easter Road, Swinecastle, Celtic park – all avoided to date and all being well tomorrow they’ll be 5 points off the pace.

We shouldn’t take them for granted but we shouldn’t overestimate them either. They can’t live with us if we turn up. They’ll struggle when other half decent teams raise their game and get in their faces.

dreadful weak for scottish football, celtic pummelled by £700m and newpox draw against one man and his dog

I did mention the fixtures before. The second quarter they have to go to ,us,Dons,Hibs,Hearts, all away.St Johnstone away coming up for them.Of course it their worst nightmare next Saturday.

“We attacked much more than the opponent, but we were not realistic.”

got to disagree. thought collum was strong not to give a foul for a climb on miller then gave one for the free kick a few seconds later which lead to the thistle equaliser. Then spotted a morales stamp to award a free kick in the six yard box when it was easier to let play go. The corner you talk about clearly took a nick off the thistle player. I thought he had a good game.

Thistle have an enormous financial advantage – they urnae skint and relying on ‘soft loans’.

  12. Hebcelt: Lovely offer to MIT/B/G. Hope he reconsiders, if plans allow.

DD: Looking forward to it. Dublin going for three in a row. ABD brigade hoping for a Mayo win which, as a Jeaicín I understand, but the mighty Dubs have set a standard that will be very difficult to beat.

If Mayo win, best of luck to them.

I was 9 when Marc Bolan died so music and football are part of my life

King Kenny left us in 77 too..

    I was heartbroken

  15. Collum is a pariah among his teaching colleagues, was told he was pinned up against the staff room wall by a senior colleague back in the days when RFC existed, a cheat and has a cheek to teach RE, he is also a devious little b and took the education authority on for being absent due to his refereeing duties, he won his case and was retained in a senior capacity and had a colleague demoted, although still absent a lot to referee, so the council tax payers of North Lanarkshire pay for this guy to teach but he is absent due to SFA duties.Austerity has not affected him one little bit.

  16. Turkey – I haven’t been reading back much!

It’ll be interesting to see where they are at after that run!

They have acquired some better players. Jack, Dorrans and maybe Morelos – but none would be knocking on the door of our first team.

And they really don’t seem to know what to do when things aren’t going well. Serious lack of steel in there.

    Also rans.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the wage differential between them and thistle is similar to that between us and PSG percentage wise. It puts their failures in context I think.

  17. Thistle showing up some of the other cowards in the league. This is not a good team.Apart from the wee striker, who looks a sharp striker, they are not any better than last year.Gaping holes on the right side of their defence. The two centre halves lumber about,,Jack,is well,Jack,a nonentity.Dorrans invisible for most of the game.Good strike, but against 10 men retreating.

If we turn up next week, they are in deep doodoo.

Re bbc commentator Liam McLeod…boy’s a sheepie, million miles from being a hun, wife’s a big Tim and Liam would side with us every time v the huns…just doing his job, making it sound exciting…

    —————————————-

He disnae get so excited when the Celts score…..must have fell oot with his missus on those days ;O)

  19. A coach from Valencia once told me, “The ball is made of leather (must have been an old Spanish saying), leather comes from the cow, the cow walks on the grass not in the air, so, the ball should stay on the grass not in the air.”….should have mentioned it to these players tonight…a lot of hoofing and whooshing during the game…tactics?

  20. Sad but true tale of Marc Bolan on BBC 4; I bought Electric Warrior but pretended it was a Xmas present for my sister, all the “real music ” rams were into Black Sabath and Deep Purple.

Thankfully I am now liberated from such prejudice.

  21. Dessy bhoy – I wrote something after the infamous derby game when Gollum gave a penalty against us that he didn’t see.

I mentioned the £800 per game, expenses etc they were getting as a nice little addition to the wages for a public servant, trips abroad, training, potential for going in to training of other refs, getting a cushy job at the SFA etc

My point was that it wasn’t impossible that a less than scrupulous chap might be willing to play whatever game his pay masters required to make sure the cash and the perks kept coming. I give you Gollum as exhibit A for my theory!
