Patrick, Moussa, Dedryck and Scott Brown

After the turmoil of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic return to domestic duty tomorrow with the visit of Ross County. County won on the opening day of the season but have taken only one point from 15 since. They have been a soft touch for several teams in crisis recently, so in theory, this looks like a straightforward challenge for the champions.

This is the first of two games in the next five days, the other, a League Cup tie away to bottom club Dundee. After this, we go to Ibrox then Brussels. Without wanting to be overfly disrespectful to Ross County or Dundee (or, indeed, overly respectful to Newco), we should have two objectives for the next two games:

Rest limbs and minds which have been intensely exercised by international and Champions League football.

Intensely exercise limbs that have seen little action this season. Specifically Dedryck Boyata, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts.

Patrick could do with a full 90 minutes. He was our best performer on Tuesday, but he’s clearly suffering from a lack of game time. Dedryck has targeted a starting place at Ibrox for months. To achieve this, he will need to play a lot of football this week.

There’s no guarantee Moussa would dislodge Leigh Griffiths from the line-up at Ibrox, even if fully fit, but the Champions League game away to Anderlecht is a different tie. This has to be his target, which leaves little time to build his sharpness.

Perhaps most importantly of all, I would rest Scott Brown tomorrow. The games ahead are simply too important to have images of a fatigued Scott fresh in the mind. Brendan should also consider a place for Lustig, Armstrong and Tierney on the bench.

Win tickets for Ibrox

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two tickets for the visit to Ibrox on 23 September to raffle for Mary’s Meals. You know the script:

Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat a school meal each day because of the money raised by CQN’ers.

You are improving lives, educating a generation in some of the most deprived locations in the world. School attendance has increased an average of 30%, literacy and numeracy skills improve. Life-long opportunities are enhanced.

To enter the raffle, answer this question:

Which Belgian team will Celtic face in this season’s Champions League?

Please donate a minimum of £5 to this MyDonate page. Then forward your confirmation email with your answer in the SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks to you and Intelligent Car Leasing.

Liam Mc.Leod talked about Sevco going ” back” to the top of the SPL.

Have they ever been top of the SPL.

They finished the game tonight with one Scot on the field, Dorrans.

The others looked and played just like what they are……a collection of guys gathered together, thrown a set of jerseys and told to get on with it.

Rest Brown on Wednesday and we will walk through them.

  2. On Marc Bolan,a wee claim,to a wee bit of fame,I went out with a Scottish ex girlfriend of his for around a year, early 70s.Went to meet him with her when he was up in Glasgow.Fantastic guy, also Mickey Finn his bandmate.

if it’s true a senior manager of a school (i assume cardinal newman) did what you say then it is perhaps the most unprofessional thing i have ever heard from a senior manager on campus.

i suggest you out this person by passing your information on to North Lanarkshire Council so that they can investigate. I

FC Frankenhun do look an improved lot from last season but they still don’t have one player who’d start with us. That includes Gerd Morelos.

I probably shouldn’t question other people’s motives or convictions but I do!!

A Protestant pal of mine has a great saying about sons of his own more overtly pious brethren (and I think it applies just as much to those of the RC persuasion) that some people are ‘good living for a living’!

I’ll leave it at that and hope that if there is a God that she will forgive me for judging others!!

Schools are small but very visible communities. I would suggest proof is required before posting on a world wide forum something that could be pin pointed to a small number of individuals. if it’s gossip keep it to the pub – that would be the morally acceptable thing to do in my opinion.

Collum had a decent game tonight and any suggestion he might have been bias I think has no evidence from what I saw tonight. Actually maybe the reverse.

  13. BT,

No you won’t….well least not till tomoz…..we’ll meet up..

  14. I can’t see any improvement in them from last season except in the Morelos position.

    Full backs who can’t defend.

One centre back beyond slow and the other just 3rd rate.

Windass has the right name as he spends a lot of time on his ass and goes over at the slightest breeze.

Jack and Dorrans work hard but no creativity.

Candleass the winger can hit a decent cross but can’t beat his man so often just hits and hopes.

Their sole tactic was high balls and they are slow paced so struggled lgainst a lowly positioned team who had 10 men for 30 minutes.

They have had a relatively easy fixture list and are dropping points a

Delaney’s there is a connection between Soft Cell’s version of the Gloria Jones Northern Soul classic tainted love apart from Marc Almond and Marc Bolans sharing the same first name.

Marc Bolan’s former partner was Gloria Jones.

Gal had posted a picture on his facebook page of the Celtic tatoo Lou got done on his leg . It was very good.

Gordon Smith’s parents health must be improving , thankfully , if he has the time now to do so much punditry work .

Liam McLeod does my head in . His preference appears mentioning games we have lost or mistakes our players have made, when commentates on our games.

  18. QF

Why did Collum not send off Morelos when he pulled and kicked opponent and then kicked out again with ball long gone?

The definition of a good game is applying the rules impartially and in this incident he had a clear view from a few feet away and chose not to apply the laws of the game.

He also gave huns a dangerous free kick at end of first and booked Mcginn when he won the ball and Windass clearly dived.Collum again had a clear view from a few feet away.

  19. Dallas

I was aware of the Gloria Jones and Marcs connection. Surprised anyone else would though. My Knightswood bhoyhood friend never lets me down though. :))
