Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

Fair enough mate, i guess that is just what i saw. I do think Puyol and Barca generally throw themselves on the ground alot and surround the ref at every possible opportunity.

  2. BT,bang on,that team was sent out to do a job on Celtic..Why people are on here making a case for Mc Nally is beyond me..

Puyol, lovely dive there. Barca sicken me with their cheating.

Barca may be many things, but cheats are not one of them, just my opinion mind.

    Achievements in that era 78 – 83 ?

Against the worst Rangers in history we blew the league twice to New Firm, lost it another twice by a distance to Rangers and Aberdeen.

OK we did win the league twice but should have won it at least 5 times……I mean John Greig as manager …..come on

We did nothing in Europe at a time when you only needed to win one or two games to get to the

last 4 in any of the competitions……yet they slag off GS teams who beat the best in Europe like Man U or Milan or Barca…….

These guys will never be favourites of mine I am afraid.

Mcinally was wrong with his tactics…I would never advocate my kids playing like that but I know how he must have felt…he knows he has nae chance of winning – he has a burning competitive spirit ..he resorts to ‘cripple them’ out of desperation. Completely wrong but I have done it as a player when in games that you know you are going to get completely poned..it’s a desperate measure that leaves you feeling ashamed when reason returns but it is a consequence of wanting to win at all costs…an affliction suffered by most professionals.

Wrong, wrong, wrong but doesn’t make a guy who has played for Celtic, coached at Celtic, been a lifelong Celtic supporter in to a Hun – too many on CQN lurch to that accusation too quickly – frankly I find it inane…

cue – many cqn posters now accuse me of being a Hun..

For someone a Celtic fan you are sure putting up a a case for they two.I was using two Huns as prime example of what is everything anti Celtic.Butcher said it was one of the best feelings ever to stop us winning the league and McCall said they had no answer to Rangers power last week when they lie down.So ok they didnt say boot them off the park but you know precisely what I mean.

  11. Which club, I just reckon some of our most recent european performances have been much better than these hacks who achieved very little with their opportunity in that arena……

Yet these former ‘stars’ feel free to spout negativity about our team under GS and NL with impunity.

Watching the game, I had to keep reminding myself we were playing Peterhead. The commentator was constantly talking about Caley Thistle. He must have mentioned them more than he did Peterhead.

Fantastic pass from Paddy McCourt in the build-up to the first goal.

Stokes has got to be man-of-the-match though.

    tremendous performance from Anthony.

I’m 6 feet, 98kg, should I play to my strength (literally) or try and play the fast wee guy opposite at football ?

As far as I can remember Jim McInally was out for some time – a loan or an injury.

When he came back the manager – David Hay, I think – told him he was fourth choice for his mid-field position.

That was Peter Grant’s position. Peter is a big supporter but McInally was the better player so was Jim Duffy.

maccy played all his games for us at left back in a side that swept the boards for 3 years running, in fact i watched that reserve team practiclly the whole time when they played the same time as the first team his performances pushed him into the first team squad were he came to none other than brian cloughs attention at forest who then signed him,it is ok for some to use killie and others that try and play football against us (and lose), but maccy’s side are the second worse team in scotland, thats a fact, if he had as some say opened up against us we would have been in double figures and he knew that.just what do celtic owe him that we should expect him to put a side on the park as lambs to a slaughter?

Of course you are right..all I’m saying in a mismatch you resort to desperate measures..

  22. Anybody like me who didn’t like the thuggish tactics against Celtic probably just want to see footballers return to playing attractive football rather than intimidating a good football team with they’re bully boy tactics, what Scottish football endures is the reason we have a crap national team and we’re generally poor in Europe, McInallys …. Erm tactics as championed by the Huns are keeping us back and potentially destroying careers.

    No excuses for thuggery.
