Plans all for after international break

151

Your can sense Brendan has been managing his squad through testing times in the hope of having his most important players available for after this month’s international break.

I suspect Reo Hatate, Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers will all declare themselves fit, no matter how true their claims are.

The manager knows how to win at Ibrox, he’s done it often enough. With Reo, Callum and Cameron on the field he will expect to do the same next month.

Callum and Cameron have enormous natural fitness, they reach peak form straight after a break. Reo less so. He has missed so much football this season it will take him time to hit form. At most, he’ll have 90 minutes.

For the sake of the league I hope Aberdeen can get their act together.

Not sure about their ownership structure, but they should hunt that charlatan McCormack from their club.

It will also be interesting to see what happens at Hibs.

Dam youz bringing up Prati again :-)) i think my 7 year old self still feels the devastation of that goal at Celtic Park even now in 1969.

They were a joy in the final, has to be said.

  4. Feyenoord in 70 is still my biggest heartbreak watching Celtic.

MTK in 64 was a disaster. Both Inter and AM semis could have went either way as both them and us were top 10 clubs in Europe but probably behind Ajax with the brilliant Cruyff.

Liverpool 66 was different. I’ve thought for a long time that had we knocked out Liverpool, and not robbed, we’d have taken care of Dortmund at Hampden with over 100k of our own fans there.

However this could very well have changed history.

Celtic practically came from nowhere to win in Lisbon.

On reflection we should have 2 or 3 big cups, but I take enormous pride, joy and comfort that we won it once anyway .

Only 23 names on that list and many big names and great teams didn’t make it….. so far.

Leeds, PSG and Arsenal, Athletico Madrid..to name four.

Big Jimmy – other 2 horses beat but I put on a wee pearl diver of winnings on Bournmouth, Peterborough, Dortmund and Atletico got £80 quid, not gonna retire but it keeps me playing with free cash for a few days.

    Good luck.

    ………..

    Well done Davie Bhoy.

Ive just looked at the Bournemouth result from last night……they came back from being 3 – 0 down , to win by 4 – 3. That was some comeback.

You must have thought your bet was beat at half time ?

  7. CHELTENHAM…

I see that another horse that is Trained by Nicky Henderson is now a NON RUNNER Today.

” SIR GINO” was EVEN Money favourite a for weeks and I caked it. Because of Hendersons stable being in such poor form in recent times, Sir Gino was available at odds of 5/2 yesterday. I was NOT tempted to put more money on it, as I have LOST a few Quid with my ANTE POST Bets now that the Horse is a NON RUNNER !

Having said that, given the stables shocking ” Form” in recent weeks, Sir Gino WOULD probably have got beat anyway ?

    We will never know.

    Re Lisbon Lions :

Don’t know who gave this famous moniker but Sporting Lisbon play in green and white and the club badge depicts a lion.

Cheers! Spoke to a few friends yesterday that have been all telling me I must go.

People don’t think of Kentucky as a tourist destination but a lot to do and see here. We have the longest cave system (known) in the world that you can easily lose a day in and the surrounding national park. Red River Gorge is probably my favourite place here. We often retreat to a wee cabin in the woods with the dog.

  13. No googling here.

Has anyone ever had a jar of Lyall’s Golden Syrup in their kitchen?

Could you describe from memory what their Logo was?

The company was taken over by an American Group who thought this was no longer appropriate. No wonder- my mother had their Black Treacle tin in our cupboards and I never noticed what this was. It’s a really strange story.

    Disaster!

The Scottish Women Football Team recently wore what I would describe as a Classic design, dark blue with white collar, not sure if it was Adidas.

That would be a nightmare not a dream – unless you are a hun ;)

Just messing; I know all nightmares are dreams but not all dreams are nightmares.

A Dundee fan in my gym had a dream that they pumped the huns. Hopefully more of an omen than your dream though he did say that he had a similar dream before they lost (1-3 I think he said) to a 10 man Sevco team “who were awarded the softest of penalties for a shirt pull” at 1-1.

“A British lion with paw on a slave ?”

    Lol.

Was it not surrounded by flies?

  17. You can see from this image that it was a DEAD lion with BEES buzzing around the carcass- apparently based on a Bible Story with Sampson I think. Lyall was a religious guy but the American company thought it was too graphic and would be off putting.

P.S. Bees are not involved in the making of Syrup (or Treacle). Nor are lions

the story of sugar in greenock and the port is a long one.

murky beginnings with the slave trade.

the magnificent greenock municipal buildings has many statues and figures that just would not be allowed today.

  19. Out of the strong came forth sweetness

The brand, sold in a distinctive green and gold lidded tin with an image of a lion surrounded by bees, is believed to be Britain’s oldest. The design of the tin decoration, which includes a biblical quotation, has remained almost unchanged since 1885.[5]In 2024, the brand decided to change its logo. The company said its new visual identity was designed to “refresh the brand’s legacy to appeal to a 21st century audience.” See, CNN published February 21, 2024.

In the Book of Judges, Samson was travelling to the land of the Philistines in search of a wife. During the journey he killed a lion, and on his return past the same spot he noticed that a swarm of bees had formed a comb of honey in the carcass. Samson later turned this into a riddle at a wedding: “Out of the eater came forth meat and out of the strong came forth sweetness”. (Judges 14:14) While no one is sure why this particular quotation was chosen, it has been suggested that it refers either to the strength of the Lyle company which delivers the sweet syrup or possibly even to the trademark tins in which the syrup was sold.
