Plans all for after international break

151

Your can sense Brendan has been managing his squad through testing times in the hope of having his most important players available for after this month’s international break.

I suspect Reo Hatate, Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers will all declare themselves fit, no matter how true their claims are.

The manager knows how to win at Ibrox, he’s done it often enough. With Reo, Callum and Cameron on the field he will expect to do the same next month.

Callum and Cameron have enormous natural fitness, they reach peak form straight after a break. Reo less so. He has missed so much football this season it will take him time to hit form. At most, he’ll have 90 minutes.

    ………………

Cheers mate for your welcoming words and sentiment regarding those of us who enjoy a wee Flutter on the Horses.

As for Celtic and our injured stars, I hope and pray that they are ALL back Fit and Well ASAP…..to take down the nasty Hun.

    HH Mate.

  3. Paul’s most recent pieces have been noticeably short and sharp- seems to me that he is struggling to motivate himself to write anything of interest and depth. There has been no talking-up, or, talking down our chances, either in upcoming games, or, overall in the campaign; just a kind of bland reporting of certain facts.

This can be understood as we really don’t know where we are from match to match, or, week to week. It is a surreal situation in which we are not confident of winning any game no matter the opposition, or indeed what the make-up of the squad may be at any juncture.

Of course it’s great to imagine it all magically coming right and the league and cup being delivered as usual, however it is just as likely if we are honest, that an Ibrox treble could be ‘on the cards’. We could have another season like 10iar, where we are unable to win the title to land a special plus, i.e. CL new format and increased prize money.

We have never got to grips with the season, and the old saying of ‘failing to prepare leads to preparing to fail’ is writ large in our minds. Brendan recently stated to a ‘good girl’ that “this group will write its own story”, it obviously will – the trouble is that, even at this relatively late stage of the season, we haven’t a clue what it might be.

    Tin hat on.

I hope Rangers beat Benfica tomorrow.

It would by crucial to Scotland’s co-efficient, which benefits Celtic.

It means they are forced to play at least one more league game on a Sunday.

It also ensures Celtic face Aberdeen in the cup semi on the Saturday.

    I can live with that.

  5. Why don’t we know when we will play Aberdeen in the semi-final?! Is the sfa waiting until after the Sevco match tomorrow 🤔

  6. Remembering #CelticFC’s greatest ever player, Jimmy Johnstone, who passed away 18 years ago today.

    …………….

    R.I.P. Jimmy Jinky Johnstone.

YOU were TRULY a ” WAN AFF”.

I grew up watching Wee Jinky and ALL the other GREAT Celts around him for many years.

Thank God I was old enough to enjoy and appreciate Jinky.

God Bless the wee man, NOT just an Entertainer….but a SERIAL WINNER !

    YNWA.

  7. Given Brendan Rodgers attention to detail in his first spell as Celtic manager I would be very surprised if he allowed players “to declare themselves fit , no matter how true their claims are”. Then again maybe that is what the players in question have in fact been doing, hence their stop start seasons in the case of Reo and Cameron.

Of course under Neil, the needle would have been out, the players in, and the damage done.

I think the best we can hope for in the time available is that our key players act professionally, and are treated likewise by our medical and coaching staff, because if not, their muscle and tendon problems are going to be, once again, our achilles heel.

Viaplay decide which semi-final will be televised and yes, in that respect, the decision depends on the Gers result v Benfica.

Match dates & times will be released on Friday.

  10. Saw something on BBC this morning (I know) about Uefa bracing themselves for a Liverpool v R2ngers final in Dublin and the influx of fans.

    Right ye are.

Heard something on the ol’ wireless on that very subject, something to the effect that if the Europa League final was to involve Liverpool and Rangers* UEFA is thinking tha the Aviva stadium might not be big enough to host such a match.

Could be that both the Irish government and Dublin City council have alerted themselves to the possibility and are giving UEFA notice that such a final would not be welcome.

    ………….

I hope the Huns get gubbed against Benfica, but sadly having watched the first Leg last week, I was NOT impressed with Benfica despite them being on their own patch. At the same time I can understand why some on here won’t be too disappointed IF the Huns go through ( The EXTRA Games etc ).

I get that, but I just want the Huns to LOSE EVERY Game.

As I Posted on the previous Thread, I have a GUT Feeling that Benfica will ” Bottle It” at Ipox tomorrow evening, and this will result in the Huns winning comfortably by Three or Four Goals.

I also would NOT be surprised to see Benfica having at least ONE Player sent off ?

    HH.

  14. Aiplle.

That news story also said the final itself is at the aviva with capacity of 52000.

And if one of the big teams makes it they suggest having a fanzine at croke park with capacity for 83000.

If they make it there it would be carnage.

  16. CHELTENHAM RACES….

My most Favourite Jumps Trainer for over the last 30 years and more has been NICKY HENDERSON.

I have followed his Horses thru those years, and its VERY sad to see his Horses in recent times running very poorly.

Nicky has been forced to declare some NON RUNNERS for the Racing Today due to POSSIBLE ILLNESS in his stable. I suspect that he will have further Non Runners in the days and weeks to come.

In recent times his Horse have ran too badly to be true.

On Friday at Cheltenham Henderson has a ” HOT Favourite in the 1.30 Race called ” SIR GINO”, which is available at odds of EVEN MONEY just now.

IF the Horse DOES run on Friday, I am tempted NOT to back it, no matter what Price it is.

Ive already backed it a few weeks ago in ANTE POST Bets, but there is a serious doubt with the Stable just now.

Cheltenham and Racing in particular NEED the BEST Horses and Trainers etc and Nicky Henderson and his staff must be distraught just now.

I hope that ” Sir Gino” runs and WINS on Friday, but I probably won’t be putting any more cash on it this week.

The Horses welfare is the priority and Nicky Henderson knows a whole lot more than I do about any aspect of Horse Training,, so I would imagine the Horse will be a Non Runner IF there is any doubt about the Horses well being.

I hope that ALL the Horses come back safe and sound Today.

Yes illness and the ground which is very soft if not Heavy already, his horses tend to like better ground as you will know.

  18. Good Afternoon BigJimmy hopefully you have a good day with the horses,Jimmy I’m just having one bet this afternoon Ballyadam in the 2/50 ,have a good afternoon take care ,

  19. SIR GINO has ” drifted” from EVEN Money Favourite to 2/1 for this Fridays Race.

The odds have got larger because of the poor form of Mr Hendersons horses I suspect ?

P.S. “we(sic) are not confident …….. or indeed what the make-up of the squad may be at any juncture.”

I could predict 90% of the squad each week, once the injuries are announced. Do you mean you disagree with the team/squad selection or do you honestly believe the squad selection is a surprise each week?

  24. In the highly unlikely event that the Huns got to the europa final, I could see Dublin refusing to host. The City would be destroyed.

  25. The hand of God on

Was in Lisbon last month and went to Benfica’s game against Gil Vicente which they easily won 3-0,whilst not being sure about the standard of opposition I was very impressed by Benfica.Unfortunately since then their form has nosedived but I reckon that if the best of both sides turn up Benfica will win comfortably.

  26. Aipple, a couple of questions I keep meaning to ask –

    1. Any notable civil war locations near you ?

    2. I know it’s not close to you but have you ever visited the Smithsonian ?

  27. Im not sure how much Benfica want to beat the Huns. If their home attendance for the first leg was anything to go by, their fans certainly weren’t interested in the tie.

*that seems to be quite common now in Europe, and dare I say it england, and also with their national cups as well, it seems that the Champions League is now the Holy Grail

  29. FRED COLON re: Civil War Sites

    1. Yes, there are many as Kentucky was a key area during the war. The closest big one is Richmond. 90 minutes away. Camp Nelson is also close by. It was a huge recruitment and training facility for the United States Colored Troops. Think is was also a refuge for slaves.

    2. Smithsonian is on my Loovul lover and I’s list, not yet been.

    Planning a trip?

  30. I asked a benfica supporting friend if they were going to see the rangers match.

not interested, they dont have any famous players, not excited by the tie, expected to win anyways,

jose wanted that trophy for roman last year, moyes did so also for west ham.

some take it more serious than others,

i am sure liverpool and villa want to win in their respective competitions, but they will only sell out the stadium for a hie profile tie.

EITHER WAYS I WISH WE WERE INVOLVED.
