It is quite incredible that the European Cup/Champions League final has not been held in Lisbon, one of Europe’s major football cities, since 25 May 1967. Lisbon is the home of one of the early giants of the tournament, and has had imposing cathedral-stadiums ever since, all but one of which was brought up to modern standards for Euro 2004.
When the Lisbon Lions return to the city of their greatest triumph, one day before its 47th anniversary, they will once more represent Celtic on the world stage, just as they did in the Lisbon sun all those years ago, and on hundreds of occasions since, when they have pitched up at supporter or media events.
This is a team of The Ages. The games’ dignitaries will pay homage to them next month, while locals of an older generation will recall their youth with a glint in their eyes. Delighted their going back, hope they bring their boots.
We’re in for a treat in the run up to this year’s final.
Well done to the Celtic fans who rallied round to buy Johnny Doyle’s 1977 Cup Final shirt for his family. Stunning work.
Is it unacceptable to say ‘Hearts are going bust’? The only disputable element of this claim is its transient nature; Hearts are already bust. I think it’s commendable that a Celtic player mixes socially and culturally with Hibs fans, who he previously performed for. Remember and acknowledge those who helped you on the way up.

Kayal claims (legitimately) it was done on purpose.
McCulloch is a thug and should be banned from Scottish fitba

May have been covered already, but are clubs/players allowed legal representation at these SFA hearings?
If so the Griffiths charge will be laughed out of court.

This is Scotland mate , just look at Neil Lennon assault trial in Edinburgh court . Nothing’s as it should be in this backwater.
Doc,
Normally I would agree with you, I usually enjoy what you write but in my opinion our club should not defend Leigh Griffiths, we should ignore their pathetic charge and we should go on a full blooded attack on the charlatans at the SFA, they have presented us with a ludicrous situation and we should take full advantage. We should have a dossier of incidents and instances to throw at them, take them all the way. From Farry, to honest mistakes, McDonald, Dallas, governance, ignorance of their own rules and on and on. We will never have a better opportunity to put the boot firmly into this blatantly corrupt organisation, the time for softly, softly is surely gone.

Not all bad the DR as there is a lovely story of a young ex celt, Michael Graham (23) who was let go along with every other 19 year old that year. Not one young player was kept on.
He hit the drink and self abuse as despair took over, and it’s only now after spending time getting his life sorted with a big help from Grangemouth based Elite Sporting Performance (ESP). He is looking forward to a trial with Annan and hopefully he does well.
The sad thing is he tells that most of the bhoys, some had been there eight or nine years, are lost to fitba.
Another insight is him sitting in the pub watching Toni Kroos playing for Bayern Munich in the Champions league and knowing he had played against him when he played for Scotland.
A wee bit sad in places but an uplifting story

Apart from the perception that it is a ludicrous and trumped-up charge of the type only levied against Celtic players, does anyone know if Rule 86 or whatever it is has ever been used in this way before?
Or is Rule 86 subtitled “The Celtic Catch-all”?
Big ask .. Long shot
I have relatives over from Canada for my Gran ‘s funeral this Thursday.
I’m looking for 4 or 5 tickets for Dundee United Game.
Anybody help me out?
cultsbhoy
In sure someone posted yesterday about Dundee Utd selling tickets direct to Celtic supporters , could be worth a try.
Top of the morning to you all from a grey Fife.
Neither the Herald nor the Scotsman run with the non-success of FoCUS to bring evidence to support a prosecution of those who threatened, abused, intimidated and yes assaulted Neil Lennon at Tynecastle.
It must be the ultimate irony that the Frankenstein monster force that Celtic created has failed in this manner while they can spot a 15-year old singing a song from the top 20 charts at 100 paces on a foggy day!

How do Celtic do that ? What is the exact procedure for mounting an all out attack on the SFA within the confines of the football rules of the association, and if we did find rules or a specific rule which allowed us to make a complaint which would have the scope within the rule to included all those historical incidents which you have listed what chance of success? who would sit in judgement of the complaint ? would other clubs support Celtic in an all out attack on the SFA ?
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy a new touchscreen laptop in Glasgow, or suggestions on a specific model – probably £500-£600 range. Ta.

“Ex celt, Michael Graham (23) who was let go along with every other 19 year old that year. Not one young player was kept on”
No idea where you got this rubbish from Billy Bhoy but a certain James Forrest played in the same team not to mention others like
Keatngs (4 years) Santonocito (2 years) Cochrane – Fitzharris – Gallagher (D) & Gallagher (G) who all played again the following year +
No doubt another cheap throwaway line from the chip wrappers…but one that should be challenged & wiped out.
How many of Hibs 19s League & Cup winning double squad remain at Easter Road ?
I think the answer is none…like so many youth systems players get released be it Celtic – Hibs – Man Utd – Chelsea – Barcelona – Ajax it’s a simple fact of life.
Good luck to the young guy, saw him play at 14-15 and was highly impressed, thought he had a great future ahead of him – Alas like so many young players they don’t continue to improve for a variety of reasons.
I think, like we did Spugh Heevins, we should ban all SFA blazers from Celtic Park.
Kill 2 birds with one stone I believe as it would mean Peter Lawell would be banne dfrom Celtic Park. :-)
Sorted!
You can all go on at the SFA all you want but our club has people in positions of power who are obviously letting all the crap happen on their watch. look inside the doors before you worry about what is coming at you outside.

Are Hearts deed yet? Am I allowed to ask that or will the SFA object?
Labour MP, Willie Bain: Glasgow North East. 43% children living in poverty.
Labour MP, Anas Sarwar: Glasgow Central. 37% children living in poverty.
Labour MP, Margaret Curran: Glasgow East. 35% children living in poverty.
All three Labour MPs voted to increase child poverty further when they backed the coalition’s cap on Welfare Benefits.
All SNP MPs voted against.
Ed Balls boasted it was his idea to back the coalition!
lionroars,
I don’t know the exact procedure but we are hardly dealing with an organisation that deals with exact procedure, the Jorge Cadette case being a prime example. We have legal people on the board, our major shareholder will have access to some very sharp legal minds and it should not be very difficult to build a case that exposes the organisation for what it is. What is the alternative? If we continue to sit back, these spurious attacks will continue. Think Farry, Peat, Bryson, Gordon Smith and Ogilvie, these attacks will continue until we stand up and shout enough! As I said earlier, in my opinion, the best form of defence is attack.
I believe it would also give the support a common cause with which to unite behind the club again.

I think rule 86 was used against John Brown for a comment he made in an interview although IMHO both situations appear to be different.

I would have thought, you be a bit of a socialist, would have been delighted to give our SNP government some kudos for that one. And, of course, you being an employee of the teaching profession, I would also have thought you would be very supportive of SNP’s policy on free further education: entirely at odds with the Labour Party who if they were ever to get into government( I know highly unlikely) intend to introduce charges.

In the interests of political balance, could you list the names of the SNP MPs, with allied stats on the poverty levels of their constituents, who voted to herald in 11 years of Thatcher and 18 years of Tory rule.
Oh! And could you post it somewhere else. :-)

Thanks, mate. Serious question, btw. When regulations run to numbers that high, you can guarantee that pretty much everything is covered.
Now,which regulation do we use to charge the SFA with a list of crimes against Scottish Football which would take a month to read out?
Aw naw,not another list…..
