Players grounded in their community

It is quite incredible that the European Cup/Champions League final has not been held in Lisbon, one of Europe’s major football cities, since 25 May 1967.  Lisbon is the home of one of the early giants of the tournament, and has had imposing cathedral-stadiums ever since, all but one of which was brought up to modern standards for Euro 2004.

When the Lisbon Lions return to the city of their greatest triumph, one day before its 47th anniversary, they will once more represent Celtic on the world stage, just as they did in the Lisbon sun all those years ago, and on hundreds of occasions since, when they have pitched up at supporter or media events.

This is a team of The Ages.  The games’ dignitaries will pay homage to them next month, while locals of an older generation will recall their youth with a glint in their eyes.  Delighted their going back, hope they bring their boots.

We’re in for a treat in the run up to this year’s final.

Well done to the Celtic fans who rallied round to buy Johnny Doyle’s 1977 Cup Final shirt for his family.  Stunning work.

Is it unacceptable to say ‘Hearts are going bust’?  The only disputable element of this claim is its transient nature; Hearts are already bust.  I think it’s commendable that a Celtic player mixes socially and culturally with Hibs fans, who he previously performed for.  Remember and acknowledge those who helped you on the way up.

  1. The sheer hypocrisy and the double standards which exist in the bowels of Hampden have reached a nadir in its long and blackened history.

I don’t need to chronicle the long list of actions which have singled out Celtic and Celtic players in the past.

They are probably listed earlier in the blog.

LG may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, I don’t actually know his current Mensa status, but he is an individual who was with his mates, in his own time and free, even in Salmond’s Scotland, to sing whatever song he feels inclined to sing.

The SFA should be reminded of their rules interpretation over Scotland’s newest senior side.

I hope LG thinks twice when it comes round to a Scotland call up.

I hope Neil has hit him with a fine that is less than a tip to a taxi drive.

I hope that when Hearts regain promotion the season after next LG scores a hat trick.

The lad is now aware of the scrutiny he is under and will learn to keep his indiscretions a little less public.

Colchicine is the fastest cure. It’s derived from a medieval poison so that May give you an indication of how it works.

Allopurinol will prevent it, along with laying off food that are high in purines.

Organ meat, shell fish, cherries etc

Change to a healthy diet with limited meat and loads of vegetables

Reduce alcohol intake drink plenty of water and try cranberry juice, no added sugar.

That will be 10 shillings and make an appointment to see me same time next week

Oh and when you feel the urge to saw off your foot have the wife knock you out with a mallet instead. It’s infinitely less painful.

  10. Morning, regarding Leigh Griffiths, big deal the lad supports Hibs and sings a song.

James Forrest was allegedly involved in a more unsavoury incident recently, I’d rather have LG’s antics, they’re in their own time and all must act accordingly, but only one is an embarrassment to the club, allegedly. ..

The answer is simple. Every chairman who agrees the SFA is unfit for purpose and agrees the league setup is a shambles hand in their notice to quit the current setup and start afresh on their own. It worked in England, hence the EPL, and it could work in Scotland too. Chairmen between them elect a new governing body.

  12. Good morning friends from an acceptably dry and mild but still disappointingly grey and bleak looking East Kilbride

LG is a passionate Hibee who connects with their fans.

    He likes a sing song.

Can’t get that excited about this storm in a tea cup myself.

Typical over-reaction from the usual suspects.

    Including the club…

Best 2 fingers from Leigh will be on the pitch, 30 yds, top corner.

  16. Morning all. Just read the item about Kayal saying that McCulloch was rude about injuring him. Sums the ragtag up. Only in Scotland can he get away with his thuggish behaviour (or rather only playing for the deid team ).

Doc. With respect you are missing the point. The point is that celtic have chosen to punish LG is my point of anger. All celtic are now doing is a daily mail like rush to be the frost to punish. Yet crimes far worse by the Hun get left aside and unquestioned. Like attacks on NL go are let go.

    ——————————

I’m not missing the point in any way, just looking at it from a different angle.

I could say you are missing the point, but we simply differ.

I see this statement as protecting the player involved and telling the SFA to back off.

It is the job of the SFA to deal with other clubs problems, Celtic do not have the authority to do a single thing with regards bringing Sevco into line.

Is that actually Nacho Novos genuine twitter account?

What is typed on it is a criminal offence .it is sectarian and bigoted.

It is for the police not the SFA .

    TT

  19. Hopefully, Celtic’s Board are acting as Malc suggests and garnering the support of the other clubs to get rid of the placemen at the SFA, who act only for 1 team, a team, moreover, whose death they somehow overlooked. I wonder if the same thing happens to Hearts, a similar blunder will be made. Doubt it.

Fully agree……it is ‘Scotland’s Shame’ who need to eradicate Scotland’s Shame……..Celtic need to look after ourselves, as we have been doing since 1888………….let them continue to erode…….and let us continue to develop / prosper…..it’s all going pear-shaped for the bigots / weak & compliant administrators of our game…….let them get on with it….HH

  23. BBC saying that Schweinstager (sp?) lunged at Rooney. Didn’t look like it to me and Rooney looks very sleekit, at the subsequent ordering off.

BBC also saying that Chelsea may have influenced the Dutch team owned by Abrahamovic not to qualify for the CL. Corruption??

  25. 67H, I do get why Neganon2 et al get frustrated, but we would risk a great deal in directly challenging the SFA, and more particularly any other club.

We have to go about this in a way that is beyond reproach. Firstly because it’s the right thing to do, for our own sake, secondly, in the long term, it will yield the best result.

  26. macjayi,

Naw. It was big barrells of the stuff and the staff used to use wooden panels (forget what they were called) to knock the amount you wanted into shape. Loved, as a kid, watching them do it.
