Policing and Celtic

830

I spoke to Celtic today about various questions surrounding stewarding and policing in and around the stadium.

The club would not be specific on any particular incident but I got a run down on various instances (alleged assault, vandalism) when Celtic have responded to police requests for identifying information on fans.  Celtic said the police can only ask for identifying information if they allege a crime has been committed and Celtic’s safety certificate, allowing them to open the stadium, depends on the club complying with police requests if they allege a crime has been committed.

The club were clear that complying with police requests on such instances is not a matter of choice for Celtic, “It happens, it has always happened, and it happens at every other club in the UK”.

I asked if the club target fans and ask the police to arrest them.  I was told this is ludicrous to suggest the police do the bidding of the club (I was also laughed at for making the suggestion).  Celtic can revoke tickets and stadium access without recourse to the police.

My conversation happened before anyone at Celtic heard last night’s podcast from the HomeBhoys but I asked specific questions about the red haired fan discussed who was allegedly brandishing a seat and was told no police request had been received in connection to him and that his details had therefore not been passed to the police.

I understand the club have met with various supporters’ groups and clarified these issues, as well as more general stadium safety matters, and that they will issue a statement later today in response to questions asked by the Celtic Trust, who I believe put many of these points in writing.

After speaking to Celtic I spoke to a police officer who is a regular Match Commander at SPL games (not Celtic games) who confirmed clubs would lose their safety certificate if they failed to cooperate with the police.

Having had the chance to put questions to Celtic I asked them give others the same opportunity and to unconditionally meet with any fans’ group with concerns on any of these matters. They assured me they would.

This perception – if we can call it that – is absolute utter tosh. Some elements of celtic support have become rhebels without a cause. Concentrate on the football lads. Football or politics – not both.

    Thanks for the reply.

What beggars my belief is that you equate kids standing up at a stadium (is this okay when a goal is scored?) with the GB criminalising children.

  3. ffm,

C’mon, you know what I mean.

The proof of the pudding is that that as the rules and the Law stands, those actions that I mentioned are deemed in the first instance against stadium regulation and in the second, the Law of the land,( no permission sought).

To involve youths and children to break these rules is not acceptable.

The GB do not act as an uncontrolled mass.

They are coordinated in their actions, therefore they are under the control of leaders.

Remember, we are talking anout ” silly wee boys and girls” as they were once described on this site.

Sending boys out to do a man’s job is cowardly.

(If i can manage to read it with my energy saving lightbulb)

  6. The GB aren’t the saviours of Celtic.

    They’re just very naughty boys.

Celtic want them to sit on the naughty step for a wee while.

Then we’ll all get on peachy.

    Re the Wayside

    Repost

The Wayside Club in Glasgow has been serving the homeless and destitute for 80 years. It survives exclusively by charitable donations and is the only homeless resource in Glasgow which is open 365 days a year, offering food, non-alcoholic drink, showers, a hair-cut, shaving facility, first aid and a friendly face to those living on the very brink of existence. For its patrons, it is an oasis of normality in a harsh and cold world.

To raise funds they are having an 80th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Hilton in Glasgow on Saturday, 27th April. Individual tickets are available for £50 each, with tables of 10 also available. If you would like to attend message paul67 and he’ll put you in touch with inspirational volunteer, Tom Boyd senior. There are some great prizes including a four ball with Tom Boyd the former Celtic Captain who stopped 10 in a row and is a treble winning Celtic Captain.

Any donations including money, prizes for auctions and raffles are gladly appreciated.

    Thanks…..

Sadly, I do know what you mean.

You used the expression that the GB are “criminalising children” with your reasons being that “immature kids” stand at the stadium, and members of the GB have the audacity to take these “immature kids” on demonstration with them.

How dare they educate immature kids on the usefulness of peaceful protest. This will not do.

So you’re basic argument is that they “brought it all on themselves”?

  11. Celtic v Vojvodina Novi Sad

In 5 minutes the Vojvodina forward Pusibric missed an absolute sitter from only six yards out in front of goal. For the next 40 minutes Celtic attacked constantly but could not break through the strong Slav defence.

After half time Stein moved Hughes to inside right and this unsettled Vojvodina and cracks began to appear. In 58 minutes Chalmers scored after Pantelic had fumbled a cross from Gemmell.

Celtic attacked thereafter and Vojvodina held out desperately until the 90th minute. Johnstone made a burst down the right and won a corner. Gallagher swung over the cross and McNeill rose gloriously to head past the despairing Vojvodina defence.

For a moment the crowd and player stood still until they realised the ball was in and the Parkhead crowd exploded with noisy celebration. In contrast the Vojvodina players sank to the turf in agony and some complained to the referee that McNeill had barged his way forward but to no avail.

At the other end of the ground Ronnie Simpson turned cartwheels on the field and swung from the crossbar with delight as the delirious supporters, still celebrating the goal, realised that the referee had blown for time up.

This was the most dramatic ending ever to a game at Celtic Park and the is said to have caused the greatest roar ever when McNeill scored.

There was to be no play off in Rotterdam after all.

Wonder if the ‘penny will ever drop’ that clubs are in trouble now, due trying to keep up with a ‘cheating’ club over the past 10+ years……it really is as simple as that, but not to the MSM it seems……….

well done Davie the accountant on SSB, he was bang on…..there was a period of 5-6 weeks were they never had a license, hence the reason they were refused by the sfa to play Kelty hearts….. they died.

  15. ffm,

My basic argument is that if you give your opponent the stick to beat you with, in this case, scoring an o. g. re the march, then he is going to use it.

That, when they knew that they had not followed the criteria for marching, drew the respose on to those youngsters.

My problem is that I don’t accept anarchy, in any form and what the GB advocate, is anarchy.

Go into your local pub and act any way you want and you’ll be drinking somewhere else tomorrow.
