Political scammers one and all

Peter Lawwell’s comments on Friday that Celtic receive no support from Glasgow City or Scottish Government circles reflects years of plans being frustrated by incoherent rejections.

Were it not for the Commonwealth Games being hosted in the city in 2014, planning permission to redevelop the area to the front of Celtic Park would continue to be rejected. The reality that the Queen would drive past a derelict former school, with vegetation growing from every nook, was sufficient motivation for the Council to allow Celtic to remove the building and landscape the area.  You have Her Mag. to thank for the Celtic Way.

Celtic would like a fanzone. Somewhere you can congregate before a match, where you might even be able to visit a toilet, but the Council doesn’t want it. Planning permission is sought for the hotel. On the face of it, this is a fantastic initiative for a long-deprived area of the city, the Council should be doing their best to encourage Celtic into spending the money, not looking disinterested.

Then we have the proposed no parking zone, which would see it illegal for you to park within one mile of Celtic Park on match days. Parking would start at the one mile limit, but would surely extend a couple of miles beyond this before we are all accommodated. Public transport to and from the area is vastly under served, there simply isn’t the capacity to cope with many football fans. Your choice will be to walk miles to and from the game, or stop going.

The likely change of administration at the Council, from Labour to SNP isn’t necessarily going to help, either. A councillor from the latter camp raised concerns when Celtic asked for permission to build the Superstore, citing that it could damage trade going to local supermarkets.  This is the environment we have to operate in!

The Scottish Government set their faces to stone on the subject of Celtic when Alex Salmond decided to get involved in Scottish football in 2011, leaving us with the ludicrous Offensive Behaviour’ Act.

The Scottish Parliament voted to repeal this act last year, after countless football fans, and Celtic, campaigned on the issue. However, the will of the Scottish Parliament isn’t always respected by the Scottish Government, who ignored the vote, before setting their 2017 agenda on inducing moral outrage when the will of the Scottish Parliament is ignored.

The irony should be disappointing, but it’s not even surprising. Scammers, one and all.

A reminder that this year’s CQN Open Golf takes place at our usual Aberdour venue on Friday 28 July.  Walk with Shay and the Celtic FC Foundation are our primary beneficiaries.  Costs are £80 for the whole day (including golf) and £45 for evening-only guests.  Applications to cqnopen@gmail.com  .

That book “I hear you paint houses ” is a classic

I’d go as far as to say it’s akin to the glory and the dream in organised crime lore

  2. EMBRAMIKE, doubt that private car parks can ask for name of driver. Try telling them it wasn’t you but could have been one of many family members.

The tribute to Eldiegobhoy was CQN inspired. We had a collection to pay for flowers and big screen tribute. I posted asking for contributions to be sent to me. We raised enough and what was left was given to Kerri and Meghan who were making a donation to Marie Curie.

I posted a few times, sorry that you missed them.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

I was listening to Sheep V Huns on BBC Scotland yesterday, while chopping stuff for a curry.

During the studio “analysis” after the first goal, loud and clear came the Up To Our Knees in Fenian Blood hate-chant. Not only was it not commented on, but everybody in the studio started talking that bit quicker, and louder.

I suppose we should expect this level of supine cowardice from the BBC, but I thought more of Willie Miller than that.

    ++++++++++

    Martin Scorsese –

I used to have a photo of him standing outside Heilan Jessie’s wearing a Hoops top. My pal Johnny’s brother was a cameraman/shooting director in LA, shot movies including Comfort and Joy.

The brother turned up at the pub before a game, can’t remember which but it was 1997, to meet me and Johnny with this wee guy, introduced him as Martin.

It was Scorsese, and he was very happy to have a few scoops, wear the Hoops and go to the game, which he loved.

Wish I still had the photo.

  5. Winning Captains: you have mail.

Kerry played Dublin in the League final in Croke Park yesterday. While both teams obviously wanted to win the game, the significance of Kerry’s victory is that it ended Dublin’s 36 match unbeaten run.

    Galvin out:-)

Embramike- a bhoy on here advised a while ago, do not respond to these companies, seems you take some kind of ownership of the charge.HH

  7. Was in the Bad Ass Café with WITS and Thunder Road on Saturday to watch our game. A chap came up to me and asked was I Almore. I told him I was and asked him how he guessed it. He told me he has been a lurker since 2004 and loves the bhlog. He finds it very educational.

So Magwai, get your ass on here and introduce yourself.

Btw, Kennedys in Drumcondra will be the main venue for Dublin based Tims for the two matches against Soft Loans Co.

  8. Lennybhoy, Thanks for reply, don’t know how I missed that, I usually check in most days albeit I’m not as addicted as I used to be.

That is a tribute I would have liked to be associated with, I will do something similar at this end, just like to congratulate you for making the effort, fair dues to you & God Bless Jim.

  9. CORKCELT on 10TH APRIL 2017 8:22 PM

I cannot take all of the thanks, Sannabhoy ordered the flowers and arranged the tribute, I merely collected the money. I recall when we had a similar collection for St. John Doyle, when you arrived in Amore before the Ajax game one of the first things you asked, who is Lennybhoy in order to make a contribution, thank you.

    God Bless Jim.

    Keep the Faith!

Excellent Cadavers written by Alexander Stille is a brilliant although sometimes disturbing read about the Sicilian Cosa Nostra.

Last recommendation – Hell or High Water starring Jeff Bridges – thought that film was excellent as well.

Apologies for boring the blog – very rarely do I watch films or television, mostly a waste of time – just think people might enjoy those shows.

With regard to parking fines, I got one for parking in the Forge the last time we played Kilmarnock. I have ignored every letter so far, the thing is, not one letter has been sent recorded delivery so as far as I’m concerned I never received them and they are going to have to prove I did. If they really meant business they would ensure each piece of garbage they send was signed for. My son had letters for another one sent for over a year and then they stopped.

  13. FAP&AC: The Celtic match? Yes. They show all Celtic matches. Matches v huns will be in Kennedys due to the volume of fans.

  14. Regarding the ‘singing’ at Pittodrie yesterday. Sky made a point of turning down the feed from the pitchisde microphones whenever there was a song with ‘sweary’ words in it…..”you’re just a s***e Partick Thistle’ being one example. They even went as far as to ‘dub’ crowd noise in to cover up the ‘offensive language’

Strangely, the numerous renditions of the ‘billy boys’ is ok with Sky. Not once was it filtered out of the broadcast.

The sooner Scottish Fitba’ dumps Sky, the better.

  15. Hope Arsenal realise that wee Bazza is available if they’re looking for someone local.

  16. Magnificentseven on

as far as the parking fines are concerned, ignore and ignore some more, they would need to take you to court to recover the money, they won’t do it for one or two tickets, just don’t rack up 100 as a recent case has shown

  17. ‘Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay!’ – Crystal Palace fans mocking him now.

    Sad.

  18. Looks like Arsene has lost the dressing room, the plot, and most probably his job.

Pity, ‘cos i really don’t like fat Sam Allardyce.

My sincere congratulations to you on your good sound common sense approach to the issue of refugees.

People smugglers are criminals. Their trade to Australia has been stopped .

Australia , and every other country , is entitled to decide who shall come to this country. Not people smugglers.

Last week four people in Sweden paid for the stupidity of ” open borders ” with their lives .

But for some , that`s a fair price.

Also, if it’s true that a Club in the top 6 after the split cannot be relegated, is Sevco’s plan to go into administration after the split to shed all their debts, including the SD contract…… but, then again, how can a Club in the process of Liquidation, apply for administration ….. all very interesting
