Precious celebrations

424

Celtic won the league four times in the 1890s and then completed six-in-a-row between 1905 and 1910.  The league continued during the First World War and we won five out of six titles between 1914 and 1919.

By then, Queens Park had well and truly been supplanted as Scotland’s top team, but there was a great decline in the air.  The 20s brought only two titles, as did the 30s.  The Second World War stopped competitive football for six years, but Celtic’s only league title between 1938 and Jock Stein’s first in 1966, was in 1954.  Three generations of Celtic fans survived on precious few moments of celebration.

Stein changed everything.

Nine-in-a-row!  How this happened is beyond our wisdom to explain but, with the notable exception of the 1990s, which brought a solitary, if beautiful, title, Celtic will this week solidify their position as dominant force for the past half century by winning their 25th title in 48 years.

If it happens tomorrow, the best part of two months before the end of the season, drink it in.  Appreciate it on behalf of the thousands who sustained the Movement during those hard decades.

Seville – The Celtic Movement, is out now:

“After asking us what the green and white uniforms were about and us carefully explaining where we were going and its significance, the girl turned to her partner and suggested that they would maybe take this event in. We left them in blissful ignorance but wondered afterwards what they made of Seville and how it fitted in with their vision of Spain.”

Am no looking forward to thems back in the same league, the honest mistakes next season will be ramped up to levels never seen before, and when they are in our league, we will struggle, they will get everything going, while we will get the opposite, hence we will struggle.

it was posted earlier by a poster I’m afraid I can’t remember the name of just now. I would need to scroll back. I’m not sure who took it or even if there are any more of them. Would love to find out more. I’m going to look into getting it coloured. I may need your assistance in doing that. Probably describing hair colour etc. Get back to you at a later date after investigation.

I have been a daily lurker for almost 5 years and my posts number 1 for each year since I was lucky enough to be introduced to CQN, largely down to seldom being on the blog real time and so I find myself playing catch up and going through a full thread at speed but miles behind the conversation.

I find the quality of the blog to be consistently high and over the last few weeks, since the build up to CQteN hit fever pitch, I believe it has become an even better and more special place.

In that time a number of posters have suffered pain and loss and my condolences go to each and every one who has. There have also been some incredibly moving posts and fund raising achievements that are to be marvelled at. As ever there has been a lot of great music and humour and of course the challenge of BCW’s Friday night quiz and Jobo’s daily weather update which is handy as my work takes me to EK now and then.

Why do I tell you this? Simple really, to thank everyone who makes CQN a very special blog and to say how much of a pleasure it is to be a tiny part of a wonderful place.

Won’t be at Firhill tonight but hope that my 4-0 forecast becomes reality and I look forward to the party in Paradise on Saturday.

  22. 1. I think you missed my point the other day. Putin is not one of us, definitely not the one I could admire. Stalin or Tsar of recent era, especially in treating other nation or any minorities.

    2. You said those who invaded Poland in 1919 and 1939 were Bolsheviks. Were they not Russians? I thought you knew history of Poland very well. I’m probably mistake but think you need to learn why they accepted Communism and people liked it for decades.

Not one can change my view that Communism and Fascism are very similar evil.

    3. I hate nobody. I’m not Kojo or TSD hater.

That would be all for now. Urgent scary phone call changes plans for tonight.
