As predicted yesterday, the SFA appeals process rejected Celtic’s application to have Yang’s red card, awarded at Tynecastle on Sunday, rescinded. The merits of the case can be set aside. The SFA were being asked to consider whether one of their senior referees intervened unfairly in a manner which changed which team was top of the table with nine games remaining.
That was never going to happen. Any technical justification for the recommendation to upgrade the initial yellow card would be seized. Unlike offside, which is a definitive on or off, foul play remains under the remit of referee interpretation.
The lack of consistency, which resulted in a Motherwell player not even being cautioned for a similar challenge on Daizen Maeda a week earlier, is explained by referees interpreting the circumstances differently.
VAR is never going to change the fact that Scotland is a small place with a very small number of teams capable of winning the league. It has shone a greater light on this lack of consistency, but it will not change people and will not quickly change processes.

Bring down the cheating, Masonic SFA! 🤬
Happy Wednesday all!
What he said ^^^^^
Hail Hail Melvin
HH
That game was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me, and has put me off Scottish football for the foreseeable.
As long as the club don’t challenge the SFA properly and threaten them with legal action &/or withdrawing funding for their new toy, nothing will change.
We are watching them hand Sevco this title and have been all season, yet no one is doing anything worthwhile about it.
Just glad I don’t pay into the farce that is Scottish football.
Do we have the Power or the Will to initiate change..
Teams like Man Utd…..Man City….Liverpool….Arsenal….Bayern Munich…..Real Madrid….would never stand back and keep quiet and let their team be hindered by their FA’s / Referee’s….can you picture Alex Ferguson or Wenger…Pep….or Klopp keeping quiet if the above was happening to their teams…Not A Chance….these guys would never be sitting at the back of the bus…
Change will only come about when Celtic take proactive action in demand of measures taken for granted in every league in Europe – that is, referees declaring which sides they support so that they’re removed from certain games.
What happened with the handball queries ? That was far harder to explain away as that’s the first time in almost a year that I’ve seen that given as a handball.
From the Celtic Fans Forum
Chaired by Brian Quinn (Board Members), Michael Nicholson CEO, Chris Mackay CFO, Chris Duffy Company Sec, John Paul Taylor Fans Liason Offiicer, Jennifer McGrath Company Solicitor
It wasn’t the “greetin’ meeting” I expected. It was quite genteel. A lot of the audience around 60-70 seemed to be on first name terms with top table. This was first Fans Forum of season, the aim is 3 times a season.
There was an Agenda
TICKETING (FANS SUB GROUP)
Away Tickets Process not changing
MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE
CELTIC’S GREEN CREDENTIALS
CELTIC FC WOMEN
apparently there are sub groups for these topics, they meet on semi regular basis
Stadium Catering – Presentation by Sodexho
Questions on quality and price, audience member asked why we don’t link up with Greggs for example, Chris Mackay said effectively a company will only have a 23hour trading window in a season (before game, half time etc) it’s not enticing for a Company like that. Link up with Smokey Trotters (local cafe in Gallowgate) good feedback on this.
Someone did ask about Vegan food (I was tempered to pipe in and say they could just not eat…or speak)
Chris Mackay said all food price is linked to inflation
Glasgow City Council Traffic Order
Council bringing this up again.
Private company appointed by Council approached club for pre consultation. Company were unaware of issues that club and support had raised before. Constructive meeting with club.
Club will ask Fans to contribute to consultations again
Presentation by “Jumping Through Hoops” an organisation which works with people who are offenders, particularly related to football offences. Costs 10k a year, success so far, one person avoided jail term and now in University (sort of good thing the club should speak about more IMO)
VAR
Chris Duffy read out today’s statement
4 or 5th time club have written to SFA this season on VAR/referees.
3 previous SPFL club meetings, this has been an agenda point at each meeting.
Independent Review Panel set up – club “not 100% happy with make up”
On plus side, get to hear audio, speak to Crawford Allan, better process to get feedback
Conflicts of interest – Referees are encouraged to disclose interest ” club feel doesn’t go as far as it should”
Celtic suggested going to EPL and using their review panel, clubs could meet extra costs (no feedback on this)
On John Beaton, Michael Nicholson asked if club would challenge any appointments by him. Nicholson said “we won’t grandstand like other clubs” reply from audience “Collum hasn’t reffed them since Dec 30th, Grandstanding works ”
Club will challenge any punishment Rodgers get re comments after game.
AOB
Michael Nicholson asked about ambition of club
Response “we aim to be world class in everything we do”
Response from Harry Brady (Celtic Underground)
“That’s all very nice, but we want specifics, I can go on websites of FC Myjitland, RB Salzburg, Copenhagen, Young Boys, Sporting Lisbon and get 5 year plan”
“We should be aiming to be in euro final within 5 years, in year x we will spend y on infrastructure, improve recruitment and player trading”
Michael Nicholson said he we all want same thing and would have a report for next Fans Forum.
Audience member asked about perceived lack of transparency. Disconnect with Fans etc
Nicholson said that was the reason for Forums like this.
Agenda for next Forum set then
Information on website about how you can you apply to attend
Nicholson can go anytime, totally weak response to Beaton, absolutely pathetic, but typical Celtic.
Very true, I said earlier it come down to subjective interpretation of “serious foul play”.
As we have seen, what is serious foul play and a red card to one referee may be a yellow or no card to another.
However, whilst this could result in inconsistency between referees, you would expect individual referees to be consistent in what they deem to be serious foul play.
In sending off Yang, Robertson and Beaton have demonstrated what their subjective/personal thresholds are.
Celtic should watch these two very, very closely to ensure they are consistent in their interpretation and application of the rules.
Almost as predictable as Celtic not strengthening from a position of strength!
Indeed, Paul, very few teams capable of winning the league in Scotland. And there would be even fewer still if one of the ones that can win it actually showed a bit of ambition and improved their team instead of weakening it.
But hey – much better to be rubbish in Europe and not too far ahead of partner club.
Paul67 et al
“Unlike offside, which is a definitive on or off……”
If you believe that Paul either you are thinking about a different sport or you have not recently read IFB Law 11, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3 and 11.4.
There IS consistency and indeed clear patterns of assistance for one club
Let’s not deploy the lazy “inconsistent” trope

………
YOU are CORRECT young fella.
The Huns were screaming from the rooftops about Wullie Collum, and CLEARLY stated questioned his role of teaching in a Catholic school as being a reason why Collium should NOT be involved in games involving the Huns …….
And YET…..the SAME Huns do NOT think that there is anything wrong with a REF ( BEATON) who openly supports the Huns, being inside a Hun Pub drinking immediately after a Sevco v Celtic match ?
Celtic FC SHOULD issue a Statement that we NO LONGER wish to have a Hun supporting REF involved in ANY capacity in games involving Celtic FC.
Celtic SHOULD be all over the SFA on this issue….Simple as that.
HH.
The irony of providing offside as an example of where VAR can be conclusive, in response I give you Jota v Motherwell, where the SFA reported at the time “the VAR review determined Jota received the ball in an offside position”. Yeah, they actually said that.
The below was posted in October 2022 on the eve of VARs introduction, and 1.5 years on everything has run depressingly to script.

VAR actually terrifies me. I don’t believe a person with institutionalised bias will necessarily come to a conclusion that opposes that bias just because they have more time to consider. More likely, that person will use the time to mangle logic and develop some internal justification as to why their gut reaction was correct.
I suspect the “clear and obvious” subjective test will be creatively applied as to whether VAR pings the ref. Expect it to be used often when a Celtic player tugs a shirt at a corner, and less so for the opposite scenario.
If anyone thinks media scrutiny of refereeing performances or decisions will play a part, well I must have been watching/reading a different Scottish media to them over the past 10 years.
Are there seriously folk out there that think referees disclosing club affiliation would eradicate bias? If so you haven’t really thought this through. Ever considered there might be a disproportionate amount of Dundee, st Mirren, Airdrie, Motherwell supporters in there? Liverpool, Man U…? Ever considered that Beaton might tell the sfa he likes Celtic just for a laugh? Get a grip, you all thought VAR coming in would clear up the cheating, without realising that it would be used to rubber stamp decisions that are influenced by bias.
Celtic really ought to be asking for foreign refs have been thinking this for some time….
Would the Huns be happy with a HIBS supporting REF involved in Hun games against Sevco………Would the Huns be be happy with a Hearts supporting REF in games involving Hearts and Sevco ?
Of course they wouldnt !
I wish to God that Celtic FC would take on the SFA and Hun supporting Refs….HEAD ON !
That time is long overdue.
HH
Declare allegiances, what like Chic Young the St Mirren supporter?
IL PADRINO on 6TH MARCH 2024 12:38 PM
Football clubs have data on their season ticket sales – prospective referees and clubs can give the SFA access to cross reference and verify allegiance. Like I said, it literally happens in every other professional league in Europe.

” Get a grip, you all thought VAR coming in would clear up the cheating, without realising that it would be used to rubber stamp decisions that are influenced by bias.”
…………………..
UNTRUE….I didnt believe that VAR would stop the cheating when it was first brought in….and I KNOW many others who felt the same as I did.
Get a Grip and get YOUR ” Facts” straight.
DARWIN From Previous Thread…..
I certainly do NOT need a CHUMP like you to tell me, WHY Celtic lose games.
CHUMP.
The only thing power respects is power Celtic ….take them on 🤔
Nice little earner for the elite very small group in Hamdump, cherry pick a game double up, one referee gets paid to run about, another now referred to as a ‘senior’ gets to watch the game at a monitor, somewhere out there. We have a Scottish complication because for all we know our VAR man could still be at home tucked up, still in his Broxy Bear pyjamas for the early kick offs.
It’s the technology that is supposed to give the ‘senior’ the edge, and bring about the right decision for the man on the Clapham omnibus . It’s the rules that create a lack of clarity and provide open goals for VAR man and ‘thems’. Last Sunday particularly now after appeal , will be viewed by Celtic supporters as a clear case of, if the first one doesn’t get you, the second one will.
If you cannot clearly define handball and it’s already subjective or a puzzle for the man on the pitch, why is VAR man with flakey technology, never mind his background always upheld?, appeals now take a nano second to dismiss.
Most top division Scottish clubs have VAR grievances based on SFA competency for sure, but they are not to be confused with age old conscious or unconscious bias, whichever you decide is their affliction, it’s a burden unique to Celtic. A burden always absorbed, and turned to an advantage we have, in a ‘way of life’ that was gifted to us.
As ever CSC

Thanks mate , got it .
I admire the YW’s objectivity (even when he’s telling us something I might disagree with through my green tinted glasses) .
A far cry from Beaton and co .
Wish he could ref all our games , in fact!
With Yang being red carded for raising his foot to flick the ball over his head, surely anyone attempting a bicycle kick in a crowded penalty box should suffer the same fate!
Just asking for a friend.
Hail! Hail!
Terrymac
Genuine question to those who comment that celtic should ‘do something’ – what is that? What can they do that they are not doing? Are they doing anything? I genuinely don’t know.
A month long media campaign about a penalty that never was because of offside in the build up is an example, but we’d be asking for a medua who hate us to be compliant there.
Realistically what do we do? CAS? Go for damages if we lose the league title by a point?

Wonder who plays left back if GT gets injured? To be fair I’ve been asking who plays left back when Bernabei is actually playing. Usually no one.
