Predictable SFA back their team

202

As predicted yesterday, the SFA appeals process rejected Celtic’s application to have Yang’s red card, awarded at Tynecastle on Sunday, rescinded.  The merits of the case can be set aside.  The SFA were being asked to consider whether one of their senior referees intervened unfairly in a manner which changed which team was top of the table with nine games remaining.

That was never going to happen.  Any technical justification for the recommendation to upgrade the initial yellow card would be seized.  Unlike offside, which is a definitive on or off, foul play remains under the remit of referee interpretation.

The lack of consistency, which resulted in a Motherwell player not even being cautioned for a similar challenge on Daizen Maeda a week earlier, is explained by referees interpreting the circumstances differently.

VAR is never going to change the fact that Scotland is a small place with a very small number of teams capable of winning the league.  It has shone a greater light on this lack of consistency, but it will not change people and will not quickly change processes.

Genuine question to those who comment that celtic should ‘do something’ – what is that? What can they do that they are not doing? Are they doing anything? I genuinely don’t know.

    ………..

I posted earlier that Celtic should tell the SFA that BEATON should be kept well away from any games involving Celtic.

The Huns can scream and shout about COLLUM teaching in a Catholic school and for THAT reason the Huns claim that COLLUM is BIASED against the Huns…..

WHY SHOULDN’T Celtic tell the SFA that they do NOT want ANY Sevco supporting Huns refereeing on being involved with VAR in any Celtic games ?

  2. For what it’s worth ,Bernabei could have played as a left winger were I think he could have.been effective, but he like other players when results don’t go our way he is the latest scapegoat which means he is no longer wanted at Celtic

  3. In the two Glasgow Derby’s this season .

We have had massive VAR decisions go our way .

Their disallowed goal at Ayebrokes ,could easily been given ,as could Johnston’s handball.

If they were really out to cheat us.

    TT

  4. I KNOW that if Celtic told the SFA ” NO more BEATON etc”…the SFA would tell Celtic to GTF.

MAYBE someone who is a lot more clever than me, can come up with something that will make the SFA take notice ?

    We can but hope ?

Ok. Then he’s removed from Celtic games. It happens elsewhere. This is not a radical concept.

Yes we now have no back up left back but I’m serious when I say that I’d prefer no one to Bernabie.

I’d literally play any outfield player as left back ahead of Bernabie. That lad is beyond defensive coaching.

Up there with our very worst signings of all time.

Wonder if any of the budget commentators will be brave enough to say “Jeremy Hunt’s cuts”…….

  9. Is anyone surprised by celtic plc saying nothing regards cheating beaton . That on Sunday was as blatent an act of cheating as I’ve seen for a WEE WHILE . The ref was hand picked .as most certainly was the blue nose on var .and would not be surprised if it was done with the blessing (what am I saying ) of Hampden HQ . What would happen if in world darts a player shoots 180 and the guy at the board calls 60 . Or if in world snooker a player is snookered but lifts the ball to a better position to allow a shot would the governing bodies allow that .. it would be cheating plain and simple yet ,that on Sunday is backed by the governing body .,and goes unchallenged by the wronged club involved . I have seen loads of ref cheating against us ,Davidson v dons McLean and muir v Inverness, those to jookers should have been sacked on the spot. Yet they are still there going unchallenged to do us more harm . Had we took that matter on and laid down a marker

Thing would maybe not be so constant or blatant . So they get away with it season on season by the help from the bloody people who make up our directorate.

    From the Celtic Fans Forum

Chaired by Brian Quinn (Board Members), Michael Nicholson CEO, Chris Mackay CFO, Chris Duffy Company Sec, John Paul Taylor Fans Liason Offiicer, Jennifer McGrath Company Solicitor

It wasn’t the “greetin’ meeting” I expected. It was quite genteel. A lot of the audience around 60-70 seemed to be on first name terms with top table. This was first Fans Forum of season, the aim is 3 times a season.

    There was an Agenda

    TICKETING (FANS SUB GROUP)

    Away Tickets Process not changing

    MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE

    CELTIC’S GREEN CREDENTIALS

    CELTIC FC WOMEN

apparently there are sub groups for these topics, they meet on semi regular basis

Stadium Catering – Presentation by Sodexho

Questions on quality and price, audience member asked why we don’t link up with Greggs for example, Chris Mackay said effectively a company will only have a 23hour trading window in a season (before game, half time etc) it’s not enticing for a Company like that. Link up with Smokey Trotters (local cafe in Gallowgate) good feedback on this.

Someone did ask about Vegan food (I was tempered to pipe in and say they could just not eat…or speak)

Chris Mackay said all food price is linked to inflation

    Glasgow City Council Traffic Order

    Council bringing this up again.

Private company appointed by Council approached club for pre consultation. Company were unaware of issues that club and support had raised before. Constructive meeting with club.

Club will ask Fans to contribute to consultations again

Presentation by “Jumping Through Hoops” an organisation which works with people who are offenders, particularly related to football offences. Costs 10k a year, success so far, one person avoided jail term and now in University (sort of good thing the club should speak about more IMO)

    VAR

Chris Duffy read out today’s statement

4 or 5th time club have written to SFA this season on VAR/referees.

3 previous SPFL club meetings, this has been an agenda point at each meeting.

Independent Review Panel set up – club “not 100% happy with make up”

On plus side, get to hear audio, speak to Crawford Allan, better process to get feedback

Conflicts of interest – Referees are encouraged to disclose interest ” club feel doesn’t go as far as it should”

Celtic suggested going to EPL and using their review panel, clubs could meet extra costs (no feedback on this)

On John Beaton, Michael Nicholson asked if club would challenge any appointments by him. Nicholson said “we won’t grandstand like other clubs” reply from audience “Collum hasn’t reffed them since Dec 30th, Grandstanding works ”

Club will challenge any punishment Rodgers get re comments after game.

    AOB

Michael Nicholson asked about ambition of club

Response “we aim to be world class in everything we do”

Response from Harry Brady (Celtic Underground)

“That’s all very nice, but we want specifics, I can go on websites of FC Myjitland, RB Salzburg, Copenhagen, Young Boys, Sporting Lisbon and get 5 year plan”

“We should be aiming to be in euro final within 5 years, in year x we will spend y on infrastructure, improve recruitment and player trading”

Michael Nicholson said he we all want same thing and would have a report for next Fans Forum.

Audience member asked about perceived lack of transparency. Disconnect with Fans etc

Nicholson said that was the reason for Forums like this.

Agenda for next Forum set then

Information on website about how you can you apply to attend

The ‘World Class’ nonsense wheeled out again, not even hot water in the toilets.

The leadership of this Club is abysmal, and actually embarrassing. See Nicholson’s response to Beaton ☝️,no balls, gutless cowards ,who need removed. No great surprise though, given the recent years.Shameful.

  12. Sevco must be skint ,asking personal of British and USA forces for a forces day in Ibrox, talk about having a hard neck .

  13. Competitive reserve teams ‘a huge advantage’

When it comes to producing the best youngsters, Benfica and other top Portuguese sides also have one weapon Premier League clubs do not: the opportunity to blood young players in their reserve teams in the competitive environments of the second division.

While Premier League clubs must send their young players out on loan to give them professional experience, Benfica youngsters can cut their teeth in the second division with the B team while still training with the first team.

It is common for players to play for the Under-19 team in the youth league, the B team in the second division and the first team, competing for the top-flight title, all in the same season.

“This is a huge advantage,” says Mil-Homens.

  14. If knee-jerking with statements about referees is “wrong”, “despicable”, and “underhand” when the Ibrox club does it – why would it then be right for us to do it?

It is a matter of fact that referees have not stopped our near monopoly of success over the past twelve years, or, our domination this century – if they are trying to ‘knobble’ us, they have been almost completely unsuccessful – plus we all know what happened to the little boy who cried wolf. Since the Ibrox meltdown in 2012, many internet ‘chaps’ would have had us shouting “wolf” from every rooftop, day in and day out.

We have been struggling with performance for a year now, before Ange left and since Brendan took over, and have been the authors of our own downfall. We were ‘turfed-out’ the League Cup at Kilmarnock without ‘laying a glove on them’. We were beaten in the league at Kilmarnock when in a winning position – bullied and overrun in the second-half. We drew with Motherwell, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone at Celtic park, despite having enough chances to win each game comfortably. We were defeated by Hearts at Celtic Park – unable to score and bullied all over the park in a manner similar to down at Kilmarnock. On Sunday we had the chance to lead from a debatable early penalty and flunked it.

If we were good enough this season we would now have a healthy lead in the league, might have won the League Cup and would not be bothered about a defeat when down to ten men at Tynecastle – a defeat to a very much in-form third in the league is no disgrace and no great shock, and anyway the damage was ‘balanced’ by the Ibrox result twenty-four hours earlier.

Referees never bothered us when winning two nine in a rows – never bothered us with multiple trebles and invincible runs because we were good enough – at this moment we are not good enough – surely it is plain to see?

As I asked earlier, are we allowed to unsubscribe from paying for VAR ??

    —–

Hi there – Why would we want to? Isn’t better to be ‘in the tent’ than out?

There are lots of clubs unhappy in some way or another with VAR, but I haven’t heard of any looking to unilaterally withdraw, funding, or otherwise. If there was ever a future-defining vote, I would vote against it continuing, but just to unsuscribe from paying would make us look like Ibrox on Cinch – why would we want to look like Ibrox on anything?

It looks like Mr Galloway is the only leader of a political party which is anti genocide.

Although….Mr Galloway demonstrated his grown up integrity by congratulating his rabid enemies, the SNP, for their excellent stance on the Gaza issue…citing his incompatible differences with the SNP, but indicating that maybe they could do something together on the Gaza issue under Stephen Flynn`s leadership?…Mr Galloway’s eyes always light up when he hears a Timmy sounding name…with Mr Galloway there is always the option for a bridge is better than a wall…but always make sure that you know who is crossing the bridge. 👀️

No journalist will risk the thrashing that Sly News reporter Sam Coates got last week from the untouchable Mr Galloway who really showed at least going by the responses from thousands of people in, EU, IRE, USA, Can, Australia, NZ, etc, etc, all wanting a George Galloway in their countries to “smash” the evil Fake News Western media!!!!

When Farage starts calling the WPGB as Communists because oftheiir support of all the anti imperialist countries in history…then when Israel is being contested…Farage reacts as though he is also being controlled by the lobbyists? 👀️

  17. Tom McLaughlin on

As Celtic supporters it is so easy for us to jump on to forums like this and tell the club what they should do next in response to the SFA’s rejection of their appeal against Yang’s red card.

We don’t need to concern ourselves with the consequences of our actions as we demand that Celtic should . . . refuse to contribute financially to VAR: refuse to take tickets for Scottish Cup semi-finals and finals; demand that our games are officiated by foreign referees; take legal action against the governing body; demand that all referees must be forced to publicly declare their own club affiliations etc.

It is so easy to sit in front of a keyboard and tell the board what they should do.

Meantime in the real world, it isn’t so easy. There ARE consequences. Every potential action has to be discussed with club lawyers.

An angry Brendan Rodgers spoke out against the officiating at Tynecastle.

The club appealed the red card and gave their reasons for doing so.

For once, the vast majority of journalists and media pundits, even those of a Rangers persuasion, have expressed shock and in some cases disgust at the VAR award of a Hearts penalty on Sunday.

There is nothing more that Celtic can do, having had the appeal rejected.

The board are now getting it in the neck from supporters in the wake of the appeal rejection, with demands of “what are you going to do about it?”

Again, it is all too easy to sit at home or at work or in a pub and go online and tell the club what to do next.

I know what Celtic should do next. Let’s win this league and ram it down the throats of the SFA, the Huns and their fellow travellers in the media.
