Stewart Regan became chief executive of the Scottish Football Association in July 2010. The position had been vacant after the resignation of Gordon Smith, with then-president, George Peat, acting in the role.
Within months the SFA was plunged into turmoil after a whistle-blower revealed that referee Dougie McDonald lied to Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, and the SFA match observer. A further crisis was to engulf the SFA which would lead to the dismissal of the head of referee development and referees went on strike before the end of the year.
When Neil Lennon was able to argue two technical area bans were due to run concurrently, according to SFA rules, Regan accepted the rules he inherited were not fit for purpose and started an overview of rules and procedures. This resulted in the establishment of the Judicial Panel system which recently disciplined Rangers.
Regan was posted missing from the on-going Rangers scandal which was consuming Scottish football until he was prompted to get involved when Channel 4 reporter, Alex Thomson, tweeted that he had been accused of lying by a media person at the SFA. Perhaps sensing a serious error had been committed which would bring the association into disrepute, Regan immediately asked Thomson to get in touch directly and agreed to be interviewed on camera about the matter.
At the interview Regan told the reporter that SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie was “heavily conflicted” over the Rangers situation.
It is likely that Regan was put as off-balance as anyone inside Murray Park at the punishment handed out to Rangers by the judicial panel but he emerged with credit for establishing robust procedure, “without fear or favour”.
Prediction: Regan will be well prepared for tonight’s news and will issue a statement tomorrow. He will survive the episode intact and will turn the crisis into the most impressive part of his CV. Next move will be to a major PLC or government position as CEO.

Paul,
In the spirit of this prediction game, I have one of my own:
The internet will break tonight.
Can’t wait for 8pm. Celtic scarf will be draped over TV, popcorn ready, a big bag of toffees and a pot of tea. What more could a man want?
SFA Preseident – there is only one man for the Job. Step forward Mr Fergus McCann, With today’s technology he could carry out the role from his home.

Dual contracts? Find out tonight which Rangers players had side letters promising undeclared funds through EBT
Well, you didn’t wake up this morning
‘Cause you didn’t go to bed
You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red
The calendar on your wall
Is ticking the days off
You’ve been reading some old letters
You smile and think how much you’ve changed
All the money in the world
Couldn’t buy back those days
You pull back the curtains
And the sun burns into your eyes
You watch a plane flying across a clear blue sky
This is the day
Your life will surely change
This is the day
When things fall into place
You could’ve done anything
If you’d wanted
And all your friends and family think that you’re lucky
But the side of you they’ll never see
Is when you’re left alone with the memories
That hold your life together like
Glue
You pull back the curtains
And the sun burns into your eyes
You watch a plane flying across a clear blue sky
This is the day
Your life will surely change
This is the day
When things fall into place
This is the day
Your life will surely change

Question?
If you accept my premise that the foundation of the sporting world is based on honesty and integrity, how many huns fans do you think will vow never to follow their team again (in whatever shape or form that team is) should they go ‘relatively’ unpunished?
I did say “question”, but it was rhetorical really. We know what they really stand for, and dignity couldn’t be further from the truth.
Dignity is their cry. For most people, dignity is synonomous with ethics, and with morality. Their cry of dignity is as false as their accounts records. They not only cheat their way in the sporting world, but have the gall to demand favour from those responsible for administering justice, and even more pathetic, threaten to further affect financially some of the smaller clubs whom they have already stolen from.
No remorse, no apology.
If Regan and Doncaster, aided and abetted by the chairmen of SPL clubs allow a team responsible for the greatest scandal in the history of sport to pass with punishment of the ‘slap on the wrist’ variety, then they should be considered to have been complicit.
I read recently that the 1983 boxing match between Resto and Collins was arguably the greatest ‘sport cheat’ of all time. (resto’s gloves were loaded with plaster of paris). Maradona’s ‘hand of god’ was also quoted as a possible’winner’.
As bad as these events were, (although I confess I enjoyed the Diego moment) and with the boxing example being a particularly despicable act, can it really be as bad as a team who have cheated for over a decade? Not ONE person from the club speaking out over what was a prolonged scam?
That is why I genuinely believe it should be considered as the greatest sporting crime of them all. Pre meditated, and carried out over an extended period covering multiple tournaments in countries all over Europe.
Given this, I ask again, will ONE hun decide to demonstrate ‘dignity’ and walk away?
Awe naw
You’re right. Podium chasing isn’t hunnish but it is quite childish, so unmanly, it’s an almost girly past-time. Presumably, why so many on here seek success in this way.
Wont make the same mistake again!
Next time I wont make the amateurish error of reading the article first.
Looking forward to improving on my best ever 5th place finish (recently acheived).

The EBT Club:
Welcome Mr Greig, Mr Nerlinger, Mr…
All institutions are prone to corruption and to the vices of their members.
Corruption is nature’s way of restoring our faith in democracy.
Corruption never has been compulsory.
I have always been fascinated by the corruption of power.
If, as is natural, you focus on the corruption and on those threatened institutions that are trying to prevent change – even though they don’t really know what they’re trying to prevent – then you can get pessimistic.
In a state where corruption abounds, laws must be very numerous.
Life is a corrupting process from the time a child learns to play his mother off against his father in the politics of when to go to bed; he who fears corruption fears life.
Money and corruption are ruining the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating us like sheep, and we’re tired of hearing promises that we know they’ll never keep.
While the majority of people aren’t corrupt, there certainly is an awful lot of corruption in this country.
The corruption of the best things gives rise to the worst.
The first sign of corruption in a society that is still alive is that the end justifies the means
Look, we know we screwed up when we were in the majority. We fell in love with power. We spent way too much money. There was too much corruption when we ran this place. We were guilty. And that’s why we have lost.
If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.
Oh it’s like Christmas morning!!!! Can’t wait for tonights Karmageddon, and the total shattering of the big boy did it and ran away defense that’s being used by the orcs. Hoping i’ll be able to find it on the interwebs when I get finished at work tonight so if anyone comes up with a link for those of us outside the UK please post it

Sounds like a plan.
A MESSAGE TO DONCASTER/REGAN:
The fight for justice against corruption is never easy. It never has been and never will be. It exacts a toll on our self, our families, our friends, and especially our children. In the end, I believe, as in my case, the price we pay is well worth holding on to our DIGNITY.

What’s wrong with “sell before you buy”?
What’s wrong with bringing in more money than you spend in the transfer market?
Surely the ambition is to find value as either buyer or seller, regardless how much you receive/spend?
Selling Ki along with Murphy, Rasmussen, Juarez , WilsonK and losing Loovens, Majstorovic, WilsonM and others off the wage bill generates quite alot of room in the budget. If we get one or two in withoput spending all that money on transfers, but improve the first team squad in the process, that’s good businees, surely?
Selling before you buy doesn’t necessarily represent a lack of ambition, particularly if you think some of your assets (Ki, for example) might realise a greater return in the market place than your own valuation? We have sold before with McGeady, Viduka, Di Canio, Cadete, Van Hoiijdonk etc and when we have got good (or better) value in relation to what those players were worth we’ve done okay.
I’d rather Celtic had a net profit from the transfer market to be honest, with inflated prices in England we should be shot if we didn’t.

Just a week or two ago my dear old Uncle Bill,
He went and kicked the bucket and he left me in his will.
So I went around the road to see my Auntie Jane.
She said, “your Uncle Bill has left you a watch and chain.”
So I put it on right across my derby kell.
The sun was shining on it and it made me look a swell.
I went out, strolling round about.
A crowd of kiddies followed me and they began to shout…
Any old iron? Any old iron?
Any, any, any old iron?
You look neat. Talk about a treat!
You look so dapper from your napper to your feet.
Dressed in style, brand-new tile,
And your father’s old green tie on.
But I wouldn’t give you tuppence for your old watch and chain,
Old iron, old iron

Prediction: Sir David to lose the Sir.
A wee update on the magic money men of Duff & Duffer.
For the period (6.5 weeks) to 31 March 2012, they declared that they had run up their own costs of £1.2m, plus legal fees of £130k.
Remembering that these fees have not been paid, rank as first priority from any proceeds from either a CVA or fire sale via liquidation.
Lets project forward to yesterday, the 14 week anniversary of administration, assuming that Duff & Duffer are working equally hard at achieving nothing,
Projected fees
Duff & Duffer £2.6m
Legal £0.3m
Ker-ching, thank you very much!!!!

No Way
There is no way you can fool me, the fan said
Think that I will swallow that? I am being force fed
Your trickery and shenanigans I can see right through
All your smoke and mirrors with everything you do
There is no way I’m that gullible, the fan was shrewd
Waiting in the long queue, to be fed propaganda food
He said he wasn’t hungry, yet he forced it down with greed
Choking and spluttering, wanting more as was his need
There is no way I will accept a newco, the fan thought
Who do they think they’re kidding, after all they’ve wrought?
Never once did he realise that whole thing was a wheeze
No one can stop them, for they do just what they please

Stick a pony in me pocket,
I’ll fetch the suitcase from the van.

But you don’t ask questions,
Then brother, I’m your man.
Cos where it all comes from is a mystery,
It’s like the changin’ of the seasons,
And the tides of the sea.
But here’s the one that’s drivin’ me beserk,
Why do only fools and horses work?

Next President?
Hopefully we follow the mode of the judicial panels and seek an ‘independent’ who will be able to preside over a total transformation of SFA structures. Someone driven by integrity and fairness with no associations or affilations.
Failing that I think Brian Quinn is a better bet than Fergus.

Season ticket paid for weeks ago so no side to my feelings regarding the Celtic response/non response to the Hun situation.
Whatever goes down with them I believe that our board should totally unambiguous, transparent, call it what you will, in their condemnation of them, their corruption, their thieving, their cheating.
It should also condemn those that would offer support of them.
It should condemn the SPL for it’s inaction and gerrymandering of member clubs to support some sort of package for them.
Much of this has already been said.
However, I believe that CQN should organise a statement of intent from us, the support to our board, so they are fully aware of our feelings. A better writer than me could formulate the document.
I would happily support Celtic if they took a stance. Petitioned UEFA, applied to another league, whatever.
I would pay my £610 season ticket fee again, even if we were not in the SPL or any other league, just to support a pro Celtic stance from our board. Year on year, as long as it took to get Celtic on a level playing field.
What I will not do is be complicite in any ruse to save the huns.
It is us or them.
I chose us and will back my board if they also choose us.

The second half of that post is the song NewClub Rangers will run out to next season.
I won’t forget the day I went to London on the spree.
I saw the mayor of London there. That’s who I went to see.
He came along in a carriage and a pair.
I shouted, “come on, boys! All throw your hats up in the air.”
Just then the mayor, he began to smile,
Pointed to my face and said, “Lor Lummy, what a dial!”
Started Lord-a-mayoring, and then to my dismay,
He pointed to my watch and chain and shouted to me…
Any old iron? Any old iron?
Any, any, any old iron?
You look neat. Talk about a treat!
You look so dapper from your napper to your feet.
Dressed in style, brand-new tile,

Your cheatin’ heart will make you weep
You’ll cry and cry and try to sleep
But sleep won’t come
The whole night through
Your cheatin’ heart will tell on you
When tears come down like fallin’ rain
You’ll toss around and call my name
You’ll walk the floor the way I do
Your cheatin’ heart will tell on you
Your cheatin’ heart will pine someday
And crave the love you threw away
The time will come when you’ll be blue
Your cheatin’ heart will tell on you
When tears come down like fallin’ rain
You’ll toss around and call my name
You’ll walk the floor the way I do
Your cheatin’ heart will tell on you

one of their ex players even gets a mention.
Regan will survive this,I think, and his reputation will be enhanced IF he sticks to the rules and to the notion of sporting integrity.
Whether he moves on,as PAUL67 suggests,to be CEO of a much-larger organisation remains to be seen-I agree that he would deserve it.
Nevertheless, his next step will be to collate the events of his tenure in a book.
I know I would!
A song for Messrs Murray , Whyte , Green and all others involved in the huns fiasco
A worried man with a worried mind
No one in front of me and nothing behind
There’s a woman on my lap and she’s drinking champagne
Got white skin, got assassin’s eyes
I’m looking up into the sapphire-tinted skies
I’m well dressed, waiting on the last train
Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose
Any minute now I’m expecting all hell to break loose
People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
This place ain’t doing me any good
I’m in the wrong town, I should be in Hollywood
Just for a second there I thought I saw something move
Gonna take dancing lessons, do the jitterbug rag
Ain’t no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag
Only a fool in here would think he’s got anything to prove
Lot of water under the bridge, lot of other stuff too
Don’t get up gentlemen, I’m only passing through
People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
I’ve been walking forty miles of bad road
If the Bible is right, the world will explode
I’ve been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can’t win with a losing hand
Feel like falling in love with the first woman I meet
Putting her in a wheelbarrow and wheeling her down the street
People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
I hurt easy, I just don’t show it
You can hurt someone and not even know it
The next sixty seconds could be like an eternity
Gonna get low down, gonna fly high
All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie
I’m in love with a woman who don’t even appeal to me
Mr. Jinx and Miss Lucy, they jumped in the lake
I’m not that eager to make a mistake
People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
