Prevailing attitude of hunger

1428

Judging by these quotes, John Guidetti may just be the most excited footballer on the planet right now:

“I’m just going to work my socks off…. do my absolute very best…. give 100%.

“The one thing I hate more than anything is losing. I can’t stand it.

“For 90 minutes I am always giving everything.

“You can always expect 100% from your players and I’m going to give that [note the repetition of this assertion].

“I promise I’ll do my very best to do even a little bit of what [Henrik] did.

“Football without fans is nothing, it’s not worth it for me.”

There is a common theme across a few players who joined this summer, they have something to prove.  Guidetti, Mubarak and Tonev each had a difficult time last season, for varying reasons.  They need to hit the mark, whether it’s through form (Tonev), fitness (Guidetti) or simply being able to play in an environment which is remotely normal (Mubarak).

Scepovic is different.  He arrives with the wind at his back, but the prevailing attitude at Lennoxtown should be one of hunger. I suspect this contrasts starkly with last year’s arrivals.

Stoke City fans were claiming that he never played much for them, last season, because he was unfit, overweight.

Didn’t look too shabby last night.

Hope we get him fit and off running.

Lately it just seems to be mundane drivel you are posting.

Having met you, I know you hold Celtic dear but it’s not the eighties anymore…do you really want to be a Nicholas clone?

If so, I suggest you get your ear pierced and dress retro and laud about Arsenal on their forums :)))

Billy McNeill and Bertie Auld are perfectly entitled to express an opinion. I have not heard or read anywhere that the are doing it in our name.

But I’m glad you have mentioned this as the two legends views are probably more relevant to a Celtic footballing blog than non footballing people like Tommy Sheridan, Stuart Campbell and Frankie Boyle.

If, and there probably are some Celtic players or ex Celtic players expressing a different view then they should also be highlighted and discussed.

    ###

Billy McNeil has made his views clear previously, along with Willie Haughey as I recall.

The fact that nats are surprised by this suggests they have as little understanding of the heritage and traditions of Celtic as they do of just about everything else.

I just hope they give Cesar peace. Bertie they’ll take on at their peril.

I merely expressed disappointment they exploited their association with Celtic to express a personal view to a wide audience. If they weren’t in the very privileged position of being Celtic legends, no-one would be interested in their view. They know they can influence. Just as the orange order know they can influence.

The attempt to influence by association is my issue, and the continual promotion of a supposed alliance with an organisation that holds a contra view and stance to me on just about every topic I could contemplate.

    Have a great day!

  18. Ernie,

You don’t need me to explain myself but I always read your posts and it seems to me, forgive me if i’m wrong, I probably share most of your views – social justice, caring for the vulnerable, education not restricted by ability to pay etc. We do, however, disagree on the form of Govt through which these ideals can be achieved.

As a former member of the Labour party, i’ve seen values and policies discarded in the blink of an eye for personal gain. It’s time for something different. It’s no longer an increasingly uncomfortable loyalty to a party for me. It’s time for something different.

Billy & Bertie have their views, as do you and I. I’m a humble father of three who cannot influence a wider audience or be careless as to the consequences of attempting to do so.

  22. no apologists

I considered and rejected joining the Labour Party at the age of seventeen because I realised that no Parliamentary party was ever going to be able to deliver socialism*.

So I’ve got mixed feelings when I hear people say they are voting yes because they feel the Labour Party has failed them.

But I can’t help thinking: ‘Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me’.

The SNP isn’t going to deliver socialism. A separate Scotland isn’t going to deliver socialism.

Remember what Jim Mather (SNP MSP and cabinet minister) had to say.

‘Any notion than an independent Scotland would be a left wing country is delusional nonsense.’

*The joke is that Ralph Miliband spent his academic career showing that you can’t get socialism by Parliamentary means and his sons went into politics to prove he was right.
