Profitable transfer fantasies

761

Neil Lennon did us all a favour yesterday by dismissing rumours that he was targeting a striker from Vitoria Guimaraes as nonsense this early in the transfer window. The guidelines are set for your summer ahead. As well as being nonsense, though, it is also profitable news fodder; just think of the amount of advertising which has been wrapped around this story.

What does this teach us? I reckon that the least informed contributions left on the CQN comments page are about as reliable as what passes for mainstream ‘news’. There is a good possibility that even the player didn’t know Celtic’s position on him until it was reported yesterday.

Celtic will be trailing up to 30 players at any point in time, all of whom will have passed one level of scrutiny, but at least 20 of whom would never pass all levels, even if a deal was possible. When players are being scrutinised the position of the club will always be to show courteous interest in proceedings. You and I know what this really amounts to.

I have read on here that Lassad, Miku, Gershon,Rogne, Murphy & perhaps Paddy have left the building but so far there has not been a word on the Official site. Taking it that we might also sell a couple of our stars, if all the above are gone its some turnover of players.

gershon was on a 6 month contract and the players agent announced on Monday we would not be taking up the option of signing him, paddy, miku, rogne and murphy are all out of contract, and lassad’s agent put out a statement tonight saying we had released him, so we don’t really need anything official from the club, its all out there.my take is as some have already stated, we are clearing the decks.

    Macanbheatha-saw that last night’s news I think.

Many congrats to your nephew and to you and rest of the family.

He should/will do a fine job there.

Good luck to him in the new post.

    Six.

  6. Zbyszek, I got the impression it could take a few days before he knows what he is really up against. Hopefully it will be the best possible news.

Sad if we didn’t get Russell but life goes on.

As things stand we’ve lost no one of any great significance from the squad.

Stokes should be offered the best possible deal to keep him for SPL games. He is a player and will score goals at that level which a Russell might have. Tony Watt can come in and develop in there.

    Here is the reality:

Hooper will not get an EPL team in the CL or in Europe next year unless Spurs come calling. Keep him for the qualifiers as it won’t make an ounce of difference. If his goals get us to the group stages and then we sell this is good business. If we don’t get into the group stages but make the Europa league he will have done us a turn.

Wanyama’s supposed move may not emerge BUT should a good team want him they’ll have to move their backsides to get him. He is under contract so the ball is in their court (whoever these teams are). No marks like Stoke, Southampton or Newcastle’s interest is of no concern as Vic is not going to any of these loser clubs (Newcastle especially and more especially not for Newton or Dummit).

One or two in before the first qualifier will suffice and then after that we will go from there.

  8. masty, The Club normally make an announcement, thank the players and wish them well, I’m just surprised that so far they haven’t.

  9. Kojo.

Would the cuckoo be the tsd?

    Maybe no.

    They don’t share nests!

Still…i would go for Russell .

  10. 12:30 it is, see you both there.

CowieBhoy, for what it’s worth a striker has to be the biggest hit or miss position to fill at a club. We could spend millions on one, then they just can’t settle, for whatever reason.

They are also the most expensive position to fill, with competition for signatures.

Our best bet, for me, is keep Hooper and Stokes, bring Watt on and sign A.N. Other, Balde?

Big guy from what I hear.

John Parks record overall is very good.

  13. Doc, we can discuss Friday, I agree on Hooper, Stokes and Watt.

I think we need Pace & mobility, yes 6ft plus would help.

Estorilbhoy, gordon & macphails in Elgin would be worth a call. If you can give them the full bottling details they would Would be able to give you an idea of value.

If you get my email addy from p67 and send me the bottle details I can ask a few of my dramming buddies as well.

Such a rare limited bottling could be quite valuable.

Hope you get a result and I,d be happy to help if I can.

Overall our record in the transfer market in the last 3 years, has been good.

However, when we look at forwards the story is very different, and for a variety of reasons,

    Bangura

    Murphy

    Lassad

    Browcek

    Miku

    have all been failures.

Also, whilst Rasmussen, wasn’t signed on NL’s watch, he was signed on J Parks watch.

Hooper has been a success in being able to score goals in both domestic and European competitions, whilst Stokes has been successful, but only at domestic level.

Our strike rate in signing strikers is very poor!

By contrast, our success rate with midfielders and defenders has been excellent Ki, Matthhews , Wanyama, Ledley , Kayal were all relative unknown signings under J Park’s watch, and in most cases NL’s watch.

So my point is, in the same way, that clubs now have specialist goalkeeping , defensive, set piece coaches etc., do we need either a specialist coach for forwards, or, a scout who specialises in that area?

  18. macanbheatha on

I was hoping they would have included the peice where he gave Wee Bertie a lift in the mayoral limo .They both were guests of honour at the Charlie Tully memorial in Mllitown cemetery We all ended up in the Rock bar and I got a chance to get full with my boyhood hero

  19. Doc

Sen a fair bit of the Balde fella this season.

Big tall fella, a bit thin, needs building up IMO, wouldn’t have set the heather on fire for me, but he may well fit in.

    Our leader has said it’s all rubbish anyways >}

  20. We should formally announce who is leaving/ being released.

It is courteous to the affected players.

Not to do so is the opposite and more akin to what we have come to expect elsewhere in Glasgow.

We ARE better than that so players (who may or may not be hurting) surely deserve a little common decency, courtesy, thanks and best wishes for their future,

Call me old fashioned but that’s how I see things…..

Reading back, following my post yesterday, re Info Greenock Night, can anyone give me Greenlions Email,as he mentioned to get in touch re tickets.

    Yours in anticipation.PJ

  23. TET, he’s only 22 I think, so has time on his side as far as building up is concerned. He fits the young with potential model we are working too, so, we’ll see.

I love the way the MSM are scrambling all over non stories and making stuff up.

I wonder how many times we will be snubbed, according to them, this summer?

  24. leftclicktic on

IMHO for the early qualifiers we need stability, the team that was at Hampden & victor will do for me.

    Good night all

  25. Would Bent from Aston villa, be worth a loan punt ? Not paying his silly salary

Or Kenwynne Jones from Stoke ?
