Profitable transfer fantasies

761

Neil Lennon did us all a favour yesterday by dismissing rumours that he was targeting a striker from Vitoria Guimaraes as nonsense this early in the transfer window. The guidelines are set for your summer ahead. As well as being nonsense, though, it is also profitable news fodder; just think of the amount of advertising which has been wrapped around this story.

What does this teach us? I reckon that the least informed contributions left on the CQN comments page are about as reliable as what passes for mainstream ‘news’. There is a good possibility that even the player didn’t know Celtic’s position on him until it was reported yesterday.

Celtic will be trailing up to 30 players at any point in time, all of whom will have passed one level of scrutiny, but at least 20 of whom would never pass all levels, even if a deal was possible. When players are being scrutinised the position of the club will always be to show courteous interest in proceedings. You and I know what this really amounts to.

The format is that Taggsy and Blantyre Kev organise all you golfers like Major Klebb in a bad mood.

You lot then go out on to the course for the good walk spoiled.

Gordon J takes copious Photos– and I walk about from whatever time I arrive pretending to know what I am doing and who I am speaking to.

I rate him but that’s why Neil gets the big bucks. I’m sure we’re considering plenty players.

He’s kind of similar to Anto is he no, faster of course, I don’t think he’s the kind of striker that we are looking for this window, you canny buy them awe!!

He’s moving to a better league and he should improve his all round game down in the Championship..

Would be a wee bit disappointed if we don’t buy Russell, but we obviously have other targets, who will be able to play at a higher level than the spl.

    I would hope so anyways.

Regarding Johnnie Russell. Would he walk strait in to our side? No. Is he that much better than what we have. No. What’s the point of Tony Watt signing a new deal if we then go out and sign Russell. Don’t know how many goals exactly for the season just past but it wasn’t much more than 20 (tin hat on). I think Watt can get 20 goals a season so therefore Russell is not required. We need to bring in much better than what we have.

    Hail Hail

  13. The Croybhoy

Well said, there’s a few from our young team who should be nurtured into the first team this season, Watt and Dylan already kinda there, Atajic and George should be there or there abouts, no point in having an academy if we never bring our Bhoys through..

  14. How often on this site have we seen comments on James McArthur, McCarthy and especially Stephen Fletcher not being signed.

Fletcher has moved on twice, the last at 4x the price we could have got him for.

The young ex Hamilton boys will surely leave Wigan with huge profits ( and for sure Wigan have developed them into much better players).

I fear letting Jonny Russell – a dyed in the wool Tim – slip through, if that happens, will see many of us similarly upset.

Come on Celtic. Get this young man in where he belongs and strengthen our squad. At DUs asking price to let him go to Derby is close to negligence on our Management’s part IMO.

  15. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Come on Bhoys if we dont attempt to sign Russell it will surely be because Lennie has his eye on a better striker we want fresh blood brought into the club however,I believe Lennie will want it even more than we do.The club will be patient and go about any new signings in the correct way so lets give them time we dont need to panic the season has only just finished.H.H.

  16. Just a quick look at the last few comments re Jonny Russell shows what a broad, and inclusive, church we have on this site!

  21. A bit gutted Lassad has been freed. I thought he looked a quality player but was unlucky with injury.

Celtic have freed Lassad Nouioui halfway

    through his contract.

The Tunisian striker scored three times in

eight SPL starts and six substitute

appearances with his last sighting in a hoops

shirt coming in the 4-3 win over Aberdeen in

    March.

Neil Lennon signed the striker as a free agent

last August but despite scoring the opening

goals in the away wins over Aberdeen and

Hearts in the autumn he never really

threatened to hold down a regular first team

    place.

Lassad came to Celtic’s attention scoring 14

times for Deportivo la Coruna in the Spanish

    Second Division during season 2011/12.

That form also attracted interest from Levante

who claimed that they had a signed contract

with the striker but that claim failed to

    materialise.

After moving to Celtic Lassad said: “I’m quite

tall and strong, I can play with my head no

problem but I really see myself more as a

technical player, as a finisher and as a team

    player.

“I know of Miku, the Venezuelan striker Celtic

have also signed from Spanish football. He is

a very good player. There are very good

forward players already at the club and it is

up to the manager to decide which is the best

    partnership.”

Like Lassad Miku won’t feature for Celtic next

season with his season long loan deal at an

    end.

Despite starting in the home Champions

    League matches against Benfica and

Barcelona the Venezuelan striker never looked

comfortable in a Celtic shirt, scoring only two

goals with his last appearance coming in the

3-2 defeat away to Ross County in March.

Also find a massage therapist with experience in soft tissue work- this will accelerate healing and sooth the numb area of trauma greatly in the later stages. The Exiled Tim. Fella my memory tells me Celtic rarely get involved in the transfer market early doors more often than not it has been nearer the end of the window. Like you the CL qualifyers would be my no.1 priority but we have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. I trust Lennie and the SSM to be working hard to bring in new players my guess would be that if anyone is sold it will be Hooper if that is the case Miku,Lassad, and Hooper moving on leaving us with Stokes,Watt, and Samaras a quality striker would appear to be a must and im sure they are working on it . H.H.

  27. masty is neil lennon on

seems to me the wee man from lurgan is on the case…that’s 3 strikers in a week he has allowed to leave the club…we will be ok in lennon I trust.

We are just going to have to wait and see what transpires.

The club will know if Hooper is staying or going, and they will know who wants him, and what sort of money they will get.

And they must have people lined up.

    I trust Lenny, don’t have the same faith in the SSM, still trust him, but not so much >}
