Profitable transfer fantasies

761

Neil Lennon did us all a favour yesterday by dismissing rumours that he was targeting a striker from Vitoria Guimaraes as nonsense this early in the transfer window. The guidelines are set for your summer ahead. As well as being nonsense, though, it is also profitable news fodder; just think of the amount of advertising which has been wrapped around this story.

What does this teach us? I reckon that the least informed contributions left on the CQN comments page are about as reliable as what passes for mainstream ‘news’. There is a good possibility that even the player didn’t know Celtic’s position on him until it was reported yesterday.

Celtic will be trailing up to 30 players at any point in time, all of whom will have passed one level of scrutiny, but at least 20 of whom would never pass all levels, even if a deal was possible. When players are being scrutinised the position of the club will always be to show courteous interest in proceedings. You and I know what this really amounts to.

    Mere speculation my dear bhoys?

But lets pretend NL is interested in Richard Dunne the Irishman.

When fit he would provide experience, a footballing brain and marshal a defence which, up until now has sadly missed a leader.

Dunne would, I believe get Fraser Foster to take his proper share of his responsibilities to help his defence by coming off his line more frequently, he’d also call the line and ensure the defence is properly co-ordinated when a full back ventures forward.

Equally, he’d help Wilson by calling the shots in the front and let Wilson mop up behind.

I’m waiting for the day that Kelvin Wilson takes advantage of the space in front of him and start creating attacking moves, with someone of Dunne capabilities its more likely to happen.

But then again, its only speculation and we all know the Scottish msm enjoy undermining NL, what your’s?

Remember all the times he was incorrectly waved offside, when in fact he was always well on side?

One former MIB in an interview in the SMSM media came up with the classic excuse – “He’s just too quick, that’s why the linesmen keep getting the decisions wrong!”

    > ”The Rangers Football Club PLC is a public limited company registered in Scotland (company number: SC004276) and was incorporated on 27 May, 1899. When the current company is officially liquidated, all of its corporate business history will come to an end. When this happened to Airdrieonians in 2002, all of the trophies, titles and records associated with the club were discontinued and a new club, Airdrie United FC, took over. Airdrieonians’ official history ended in 2002, then Airdrie United’s took over.” (BBC)

Charles Green’s Consortium did not take over the old Rangers club. Nor did it buy any shares. It bought the trophies as assets and formed a brand new club.

The new Rangers club are not entitled to any prize money from the previous club’s campaigns. They do not have a 10pt penalty applied to them, as the new club is not in administration. They had to pay a fee to begin life in the SFL. As Charles Green admits, the new club has never played in the SPL.

The new Rangers club are not banned from Europe. UEFA deem all new clubs must play three years of football before they are eligible for Europe. The new Rangers club are not eligible to play in Europe for at least three years, even if they win the SPL or the Scottish Cup.

Throughout the old Rangers club’s administration process, we were continually told that a CVA was the favoured option “TO SAFEGUARD 140 YEARS OF HISTORY and avoid liquidation.” The CVA failed.

Charles Green: (speaking about Dave King) “…for a man who is the second largest shareholder in the Club…to go out publicly and recommend that the creditors vote down the CVA it seems to me quite unbelievable because what we’re doing in that is saying the history, the tradition, everything that is great about this Club, is swept aside. Why??!”

  17. I heard Brentford want a tie up with Celtic and get some of our players on loan. Taking this on so our fans in and about London could see team was part of the deal. They have paid Celtic a hefty fee as well.

BRENTFORD fans have reacted angrily to news they will have to fork out £25 and use the away stand in order to watch their team play Celtic.

One peeved supporter labelled the situation ‘a farce’ after it was announced the Bees will be playing Scottish Premier League champions Celtic in a pre-season friendly at Griffin Park on Saturday July 20.

Fans who are already feeling the financial strain of purchasing tickets to Wembley last month were quick to react when told how much this latest match will set them back. Not only will a seated ticket cost £25 (£27 if bought on the door) but instead of gathering in the BIAS stand at the Ealing Road end of the ground, home fans who want to recreate the normal match-day atmosphere of having one end exclusively to themselves will have to squeeze into the Brook Road stand.

Although it was once the Home end, since 2007 it is

has been where the away fans congregate during

Brentford matches at Griffin Park. In order to be

a success finacially a crowd in excess of 9,000 will need to attend.

One fan tweeted: “Can’t believe we’re giving Celtic

our three home stands and we’re getting the away stand. Disgraceful.”

Another wrote: “Why are we even paying to play Celtic?! Plenty of championship clubs that are just as competitive that would play for nothing!”

Others have been more positive, with one writing: “If we make money and get a better player in that helps us win the league then no 1 will complain if money is well spent.”

This was backed up by Sam Nicol who said: “I don’t know why bees fans are complaining, ground is always empty for pre season, great way of making money.”

Undetered by previous low turnouts the club decided to proceed with booking the Glasgow side, who also reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “The Club has paid a substantial fee to bring Celtic to Griffin Park and we need to set ticket prices accordingly. Pre-season friendlies at Griffin Park in recent years have generally not attracted large crowds.

“I hope supporters understand the decisions we have taken for this fixture, the like of which has not been seen at Griffin Park for many years.”

    “Twitter and it is hilarious.”

Anything Zombie Graham says is hilarious. He’s an unintentional comedian.

“Does anyone really believe Craig Whyte doesn’t have the best interests of Rangers at heart?” is a particular favourite of mine.

Even funnier that he came out with that a few days AFTER the Huns went into administration.

All this chat about the Sub Club— I did the legals when the McCr’s sold it to DG McL– can’t remember the date but I was in fairly regularly.

Though I was in Fury Murray’s far more often as I saw that one through from warehouse to operational nightclub as I did with a few others.

There is only one Irishman Neil Lennon needs to get signed up, and that is Anthony Stokes. Stokesie knows that, if Gary Hooper goes he will get a better contract hence Celtic’s efforts to get him to sign now. Stokes will be a big player for us next season, especially if he has good partners, of which Hoops is one. One criticism of Paul Lambert this season just finished is that his Aston Villa team lacked experienced players, players like James Collins and Richard Dunne, but Collins is at West Ham, and Paul has released Dunne. Not the experience Paul Lambert wants then, but fits the bill for Neil. Dunne has played at good levels, but has not played since last year so his fitness must be questioned. How about one Celtic’s famous one week trials out in Campsie, if he gets signed after that, that will be a first!

@RonnieMacKay I just listened to the tape again about Richard Dunne situation. Twice NL mentioned RD’s age “going against him”.
