Profitable transfer fantasies

761

Neil Lennon did us all a favour yesterday by dismissing rumours that he was targeting a striker from Vitoria Guimaraes as nonsense this early in the transfer window. The guidelines are set for your summer ahead. As well as being nonsense, though, it is also profitable news fodder; just think of the amount of advertising which has been wrapped around this story.

What does this teach us? I reckon that the least informed contributions left on the CQN comments page are about as reliable as what passes for mainstream ‘news’. There is a good possibility that even the player didn’t know Celtic’s position on him until it was reported yesterday.

Celtic will be trailing up to 30 players at any point in time, all of whom will have passed one level of scrutiny, but at least 20 of whom would never pass all levels, even if a deal was possible. When players are being scrutinised the position of the club will always be to show courteous interest in proceedings. You and I know what this really amounts to.

    I agree.

We should try our best to hold on to Hooper and Stokes.

    Stokes is maturing nicely.

If it is going to cost us a 1 or 2 million signing on fee, plus wages to replace Hooper.

We should just give that to Hooper to sign a new contract.

Regular goalscorers are the most difficult players to successfully mine.

Tiny Tim – yes agree re forwards – though there are proven spl strikers available in Russell and Griffiths-though whether they can make the step up to CL standard is another matter- but hooper did it hh

  7. Since Lenny took charge the strikers we have signed are:

    Hooper – success

    Stokes – success

    Murphy – failure

    Bangura – failure

    Brozek – failure

    Miku – failure

    Lassad – failure

For all the (rightful) plaudits of our signing policy & successes in the last couple of years, we seem to have a problem when signing strikers with less than 30% being a success.

  8. I heard a wee rumour Rooney wants away from Manure.

Maybe he’s the marquee signing to replace Miku and Lassaad!

In Lenny and Parkie I trust

I believe both Russell and Griffiths could do a job for us in the SPL.

“Move em out, move em in”

  11. I think in every window we have the same problem, getting players that didn’t work out off the wage bill, which seems to be harder than getting them in and where we are right now as a club I don’t see any point in bring in squad players, get the bag of magic beans filled right up and buy a couple of first team players, guys who will walk into or be challenging for first team places straight away..

  12. Whitedog. Many thanks will give it a try.

Discussion about Kayal at Rugby Park. Totally agree with HT. I couldn’t believe what i was watching. Tried to get Lenny the sack. 3-0 down and 10 men. No chance we wouldve come back.

    Estorilbhoy,

I googled it and came up with this, I’ve used The Whisky Exchange to check values before but couldn’t find it there

    http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/17243/lot/207/

Thanks. Had googled that one also but not sure who could give me a true valuation. That one went for £54 but did not appear to be a limited edition and was only 10 year old.

    I’ll keep trying.

    Many thanks.

  17. If the 6 mentioned earlier all go the only real deadwood left in the squad is Bangura, I know some might throw Kayal or Ambrose into that category but not me. Hold on to Hoops & Stokes and get big money for Vic and bring in 4 or 5 new lads plus promote the likes of Attajic & George to first team squad. Now we are ready to rumble.

Some gadget from what I’ve used.

As i said last night, I’ve had operations on both my arms for nerve damage, which was causing muscle deterioration in my hands.

They are fine now.just do what the physio tells you and all will be back to normal.
