PSG have yet to be asked questions

494

Friday night is the new Saturday afternoon, apparently. Celtic, Paris Saint-Germain and Anderlecht all play tomorrow evening. Only Bayern Munich from our Champions League group have a weekend game; on Saturday, so there will be little advantage gained from the earlier domestic kick-off.

PSG are away to Metz, near the German border. Whereas PSG are top of Ligue 1, having won all their games, Metz are anchored at the bottom, the only team yet to take a point. This game is a perfect opportunity for PSG to rest players who have been busy on international duty, before the trip to Glasgow. Celtic’s scouts will be able to observe the shape of their forthcoming opponents, but the intensity of the game will not come close to what we see at Celtic Park.

Immediately before the international break, PSG beat Saint Etienne 3-0 in Paris. It is one measure of a good team to win comfortably even when not playing well. PSG achieved this against Le Verts, but there was encouragement for Brendan Rodgers in this game. This was also the only league game PSG have played against a team who have not lost at least half of their matches so far.

Without having to go through the trauma of Champions League qualifiers, the notion persists that PSG have yet to be asked questions this season. They may be able to revel in the joys of having signed two exciting new strikers, but great teams are made of durable cohesion, not striking bling.

My mammy will be at mass on Tuesday morning. Her only intention will be a Celtic victory against the Paris mob that night. :)

  2. PR67

I have many memories of Girvan beach front back in the 70s when my Granny used to take me and my brother there as kids, good times.

I travelled with Ayr 9 in a row back on the 80s.

Ayrshire tims are a minority in the local area but I wouldn’t have had it any other way, who wants to be one of the crowd.

  3. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Tontime Tim: We got Tam O’Shanter though two lines were covered with gummed brown paper!

Taught by Sacred Heart Sisters. Sister Francis for English. Why did they all have masculine names Mechtilde Joseph,Peter Mary, Francis, Gabriel etc.?

  4. Kolncelt

I grew up in Heathfield . Done a paper round there during my teenage years , but struggling to remember Cosy Corner Bhoy ‘s old street ,Afton Avenue .

    I left school ( QMA ) in 1980 , travelled on the 9 in a row any time I wasn’t playing on a Saturday till I left Ayr in 1985 .

If we don’t know each other , we will know plenty mutual Tims I’m sure .

Were you at Mainholm when QMA was next door ?

  5. SFTB…good one. Enjoyed that, and you’re right, we don’t get enough of that linked on here…

    regards

  7. Hi Angelgabriel,

No,, QMA had already moved when I went to Mainholm in 81 but I had plenty of mates who went there, I’m sure we would know a lot of common freinda.

Alton Avenue was a row of wood-fronted houses,if that helps. Ran from Heathfield Rd towards Prestwick.

  12. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Angelgabriel: Afton Avenue ran from Heathfield Road back towards Prestwick from the crossroads at the old Heathfield hospital towards Waterloo? road Adamton?road. They were half-timber houses and faced onto the disused Heathfield Aerodrome! It was a long time ago!

  13. Kolncelt.

The guy who ran the 9 in a row still goes to every home game , and he was old ( to me ) in the eighties . His son now helps with the Ayr Emerald , although his dad travels with the Michael Davitt bus . I noted that your home for the Munich game , so hopefully we will hook up in the BV . If your back in Ayrshire , get in touch , plenty on here have my details . I can recommend the boozer at the back of Ayr railway station where you will meet plenty who followed Celtic from the 9 in a row bus . HH

  14. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

BMCUWP! Dindn’t think you would be on never mind remember it! Some woman my Auntie Mary! (As was yours though they didn’t kick with the same foot!

    Lights off now I hear:))

  15. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    COSYCORNERBHOY

    How could I forget?

Tut,tut. Last week/month/year might be a problem, but not the old stuff(!)

  16. There was a grass field opposite the houses on Agton Avenue where we used to play football at lunchtime when I was at Heathfeild primary school.

One day two blokes who were joiners working on one of the houses on Afton avenue came over and asked if they could jion us, we were like 10 or 11 at the time, one of them turned out to be Steve Nicol, latterly Liverpool and Scotland who was part time with Ayr United at the time.

  17. Cosy Corner Bhoy .

Afton Avenue ….got you now …. sorry for being pedantic , my friend but that’s just across the border into Prestwick Toll , not Heathfield ……. or so the gang lines were written ;-)))

The sort of mistake I make with Stevenston & Saltcoats ! ;-)))

  18. Lullabies and Battle Cries on

    Kolncelt. Angelgabriel

Born Kilwinning 1956, son of a Master Mason and an Orangeman, my father certainly never approved of my love of Celtic. It never stopped me going to Celtic Park when old enough to do so.

People can’t believe I’m a Protestant from Kilwinning that supports Celtic, goes against the normal grain.

Left Kilwinning in 1978 when I married and never looked back, live in Troon and celebrate 40 years marriage in July next year.

Both my wife and daughter love Celtic and my 18 month grandson although too young to know it is a Celtic supporter, first game for him the Legends Game.

Anybody who knows me, knows I’m a Celtic supporter first and from Kilwinning second and proud to say so.

I’m not a religious person other than Celtic.

    Hail Hail, YNWA.

  19. Angelgabriel, the guy who run Ayr 9 in a row was a work colleague of my grandfather’s and between the two of them , they organised my first trip to see Celtic when I was 13.

His son was a drinking buddy of mine when I was 18/19.

If you are around the BV for the Munich home game it would be good to meet up, I have many stories from Ayr 9 in a row back then , possibly the best one about the relationship between the guy who run Ayr 9 in a row and my grandfather.

  20. Crystallized -and Naw. Hmrc and Aye. Cheats , scumbags and where yea. Up , down – straight or naw. Time to put it square on their jaw.

  21. Kolncelt

Stevie Nicol , what a fitba player . I remember going to J. Hubbard’s 5 a sides at Heathfield every week when I was a nipper . Loved it , wee JH commented on my surname and my pal wearing the hoops . We were only about 8 or 9 . He said I hope you two are ok at fitba or you won’t get in any team ( no other Tims there ) , we were and he was brilliant with us .

    Happy days.
