Questions are always the same, just the answers change

559

Is the club safe with Sir David, Dave King and Paul Murray?  Is Craig Whyte a worthy successor?  Is Charles Green trustworthy?  Is Ally McCoist a great manager?  For the PR hired hands at Ibrox, the questions were always the same, it was just the answers that changed.

Few have the gall to deliver the PR messages which flow out of Ibrox, and that group of clubs have depended on PR spin for decades.  Short of the communication of formal issues, like Annual Accounts and sensitive Stock Market issues, Celtic don’t utilise external PR services.

Celtic have in-house PR to facilitate media inquiries and the output of club message, but there’s no perceived need to bring in an external spin doctor to reframe reality.  This is the way it should be, of course, you’ll never win a battle in the gutter with a guttersnipe, but there are costs.

We have had paid professionals successfully briefing against our club for decades, millions of people read and listen to these messages daily.  This is a battle we will never win but the consequences for a football club trying to go about their business in an orderly manner are significant. The club, its directors, manager, players and supporters are variously painted as money-obsessed, anger-filled, flops and a rabble who hate the country their forefathers fought for.

We don’t indulge in PR excesses because Celtic have nothing to spin. They pay the taxes required to support their nation’s services, run an orderly business and are a remarkably well-respected and successful collection of fans, players, coaches and administrators. There are always unpopular decisions but the club face them down.

An eagle-eyed reader noticed an interesting aggregation in the two schools in Malawi we are assisting. Saturday’s article noted the pupil numbers at Kholoni Primary School in Mchinji as 1221 and St Josephs’ Primary School in Kasungu as 746. Go on, add the figures and see how many pupils will benefit from Celtic fans building kitchens. The spirit of ’67 is alive and kicking.

If you are driving to, or being driven to, CQteN on Friday, don’t think you can just nip along London Road and into Celtic Park. There is no access to the stadium from London Road. Access is via Janefield St, which, if you are coming from the east, means driving underneath the stadium. Make sure your taxi driver is aware.

There was a tremendous response to the whisky auction, which closes on Friday at noon, the current highest bid stands at £225. We have bottle No. 1 of a limited edition (291 in total) Craigallachie Telford’s Bridge, in a wooden box and presentation cardboard tube, whit an authentication certificate.

Bids are by email only to auction@celticquicknews.co.uk. This is a rare and valuable bottle. Shipping within UK and Ireland is included. Please include contact details and your bid amount.

Many thanks for all the kind wishes to the family yesterday, they were enormously appreciated.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches on Friday! Copies have landed and I hear…. it’s pretty decent.

“We are in the Estadio Do Besso on the 24th April 2003. We are far into the 78th minute of the 2nd leg of a UEFA Cup Semi-Final. The first leg in Glasgow, a fortnight earlier had seen Celtic obtain a 1:1 draw with Boavista, a relative minnow in Portuguese terms who had won their first ever top league title in season 2000/01, having only been 2nd on 2 previous occasions in their history.”

Wee post mortem on Sicilian radio re AC Milan .

    Salvatore Schillacci said this–

” Milan are simply not good enough . I was amazed to see Seedorf coaching Balotelli from the side line . He was shouting ———Mario –follow the play ! .

” Absurd —— Berlusconi paid 20 million euros for Balotelli and pays him a guaranteed minimum of 4 milion euros a season . All that money for a player who needs to be told what to do ——–Absurd ! “

  3. Is there a master list ( sorry ) of those lurkers/ posters attending on Friday night? Might be useful!

I’ve been in touch with Paul, and he knows the situation, someone returned two tickets which are paid for and said, try and sell them on and donate the £100 to Mary’s Meals,I’ve got one away, still one to go. I’ll call Paul later.

  6. Can anyone name me the PR firm of any other football team? Any team at all? When the messenger becomes bigger than the message then it is time to change tack. The RIFC/TRFC/WTF? re-appointed a guys they had publicly parted company with previously, you know there were massive problems internally.

That this is being “spun” (sorry Jack) as a “Rangers fan power” thing (like Spice Girls’ girl power but with bigger mood swings) is a p1ss-poor attempt to placate the fans. Will be interesting to see the cost of PR in the next/first public, audited accounts… What’s that you say? Satan’s got frostbite?

Well all I can say is it’s no easy being a Tipster. Fair to say I got fair blown oot the watter wi last night’s results and managed to predict the outcome of only one out of six of matches. So apologies to anybody daft enough to blindly follow ma advice.

Anyway, here’s a wee post mortem of how the games went:-

Defensor Sporting (Urg) 2 Cruzeiro (Bra) 0

Cruzeiro threw this one away. Numerous chances. Stacks of possession. Defensor with ten men and Cruzeiro missed a penalty. Just not their night and now they have to make sure they win their remaining two home games and take something away to La U in Chile.

Defensor were mediocore, EXCEPT for Brasilian forward Felipe Gedoz and ESPECIALLY 19 yr old box to box midfielder, Giorgian de Arrabeceatta. I maybe wrong (I usually am) but we’re going to hear a LOT more about this boy in the months/years to come. John Park, if you’re reading…………..

    Watch the 2nd Goal

Atletico Nacional (Col) 2 Nacional (Urg) 2

Question for youse. What’s the earliest red card you’ve ever seen in a game? The Mexican referee sent Atletico’s midfielder, Bernal off, after 23secs last night. To make matter’s worse for Atletico, Nacional zipped to a two goal lead with two very poor defended goals (at that stage my only thoughts were “fix”)

However, in front of a vocal home ground, Atletico never gave up and Man of the Match right back, Daniel Bocanegra, scored two fine goals to give them a deserved point. A strange match indeed.

Dep Anzoategui (Ven) 1 Santos Laguna (Mex) 1

Never saw this match, but from what I can gather Santos should feel aggrieved to come away with only a point. That man, Peralta scoring for Santos.

The Strongest (Bol) 2 Velez Sarsfield (Arg) 0

No kidology after all, Velez did field a second string side in this one and were outplayed at the end of the day. Strongest’s veteran striker, Pedro Escobar, scoring both goals in this one,

Emelec (Ecu) 2 Leon (Mex) 1

Emelec’s first goal by Luis Escalada, (who scored both) was an absolute corker, but overall I thought Leon were at least worthy of a draw. Leon’s World Cup bound forward, Carlos Peña, looking particularly sharp in this one

    Real Garcilaso (Per) 1 U.Chile 2 (Chi)

Another game which went against form. From what I can gather Garcilaso badly missed suspended midfielder, Ramua Alfredo and U.Chile were worthy of the result.

So, based on the philosophy that “someday’s you’re the fly. Someday’s the windscreen” I’ll whack up my take on tonight’s games in a wee while…..

  12. South Of Tunis on
