Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

He has not made the distinction.

Can you really see the sentence below being Peter Lawwellesque..

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.”

Cant see it, its much of a paper thin, off the cuff comment for the board to have had an input into it.

    Thats not his language.

I cant think of too many times Lennon has been authorised or instructed to speak on behalf of the ‘club’ as in including the board on any issue that wasnt about footballing matters only.

  7. Got a £50 season ticket last week for my pals wee bhoy and was told it will be valid for all home games since ‘the team with no name” will not be playing.

  8. I hope you guys are correct about the kids tickets. In my opinion, that would be the fairest solution.

  9. re: Celtic’s silence

Given that Sevco Scotland Limited (Very very limited, in age, money, support, credibility, humility, etc…) are no longer in the SPL, it would be fair to say that by far the largest slice of Neil Doncaster’s wages are paid out of Celtic’s coffers, in fact I might be as bold to suggest that ND is a de-facto employee of CFC, therefore what he says is in effect done with a Celtic pay-cheque in mind.

It would be ill-thought out in the extreme if ND was to say anything that no longer enabled him to take that slice gained from CFC. Therefore it could be suggested that when ND speaks he does so…

    Earning his corn.

My hope is that Celtic remind ND who pays his wages (actually it’s us i.e. Scottish football fans who buy/watch/absorb Sky and its associated culture despite getting the bummest of bum deals) and become less accident prone to making statements proclaiming the doom of Scottish Football and a few more statements actually earning Scottish football a few bob.

ND finds it incredibly easy not to sell Scottish Football, maybe we should look and find people who’ll at least give it a good go.

  11. I paid extra £84 quid to get my wee one huns tickets as I always do.

Cant see them giving me it back.

If club needs it dont want it back

but would be nice if say they gave us a wee discount if we get to chumps league.

  12. stevebhoy

Cheers mate , he used his big brothers ticket at various points last season but now they both want to go at the same time so I had to get him his own .

Just hope the Celtic board and the rest of the clubs do the right thing and let us enjoy some Hun free football for a few years .

  13. In defence of Sky (which I normally would never dream of doing)

It’s vital the club keeps the future fans season book price at an attractive price I am sure we would all agree. I am glad the season books numbers are reportedly looking healthy and there sure is nothing better than a packed Paradise.

If the club keep prices affordable it will help the fans of the future we are there gardians and they are the clubs future gardians.

Clyde want change to SFL resolutions on Rangers’ First Division vote

    STV 10 July 2012 16:07 BST

Clyde want the Scottish Football League to be clearer on what clubs will be voting on.SNS Group

Clyde want the Scottish Football League to change the wording of the first resolution at Friday’s vote on allowing newco Rangers into the league.

STV understands the failure of the SFL to include “Third Division” in the resolution is central to Clyde’s concerns, with directors fearing that even if they say no in the second vote, the league will bow to the wishes of the SPL and Scottish FA and include Rangers in the First Division regardless.

Following a board meeting on Monday night, the Cumbernauld side want the wording of the matters being voted on this Friday to be amended, following confusion over who will have the ultimate power to decide which division the Ibrox club would be entered into.

At present, the first resolution to be voted on allows clubs the chance to vote on whether to admit Sevco Scotland Limited as an associate member to the league. It fails, however, to state which division Rangers would be entered into.

Resolution two asks for clubs to vote on whether to allow the team to be admitted into the Third Division, but also asks for permission to instead move them to the First Division if a compromise deal can be reached with the SPL and Scottish FA over financial and sporting concessions.

Clyde will ask the SFL to make the matters being voted on this Friday clearer, in order to avoid any confusion and incorrect interpretation going into the ballot.

Gary Ballantyne, Clyde’s commercial director, told STV: “The resolutions are fundamentally flawed. What we need is to remove ambiguity and get clarity.

“We have e-mailed all SFL member clubs. I think we will get a number of clubs backing us calling for a change.”

Clubs must, by league rules, submit written notice of any proposed amendment not less than 48 hours before the meeting is due to take place.

The club are expected to put out a statement later on Tuesday outlining their position. It is understood every other SFL club will receive correspondence from the Bully Wee outlining their position.
