Rangers 3-2 Celtic

1137

Celtic will have to keep the Champagne on ice for a while longer after failing to collect the three points required to win the league at Ibrox this afternoon.  The champions-elect looked nervous early on with few looking comfortable in possession, allowing Rangers significant periods of possession.  After only 10 minutes Rangers were ahead when Sone Aluko beat Thomas Rogne before cutting inside Charlie Mulgrew and firing a shot past Forster in the Celtic goal.

Celtic scarcely featured as an attacking threat in the first half but moments after going behind Georgios Samaras produced one of the most scintillating pieces of skill on the day.  The Greek international collected the ball 70 yards from goal, beat four opponents before his shot from 12 yards was saved by Alan McGregor.  Anthony Stokes mishit the rebound allowing McGregor to tip over.

Stokes forced a further save from McGregor with a fine volley after controlling on his chest but the game was soon to look ominous for Celtic.  Cha Du-Ri was caught wrong side of Lee Wallace and made the slighted touch on the Rangers player who went to ground two yards outside the penalty area.  Referee Calum Murray sent Cha off despite the covering attendance of Charlie Mulgrew.

Despite their numerical advantage Rangers seemed content to prevent Celtic scoring, Fraster Forster didn’t make a single save while Celtic were numerically on level terms or only a single man down.  Ten minutes after the break Victor Wanyama was red carded for a two footed tackle on Steven Whittaker.

Lee McCulloch was fortunate to remain on the field after elbowing Scott Brown on the head.  In a carbon copy of the incident which ended Beram Kayal’s season in December, McCulloch went to ground after the incident until attended by a physio, which perhaps tempered the referee’s response.  Clever, if predictable.

With things clearly not going their way Celtic then lost an offside goal.  Celtic had an opportunity to make an attempt on goal when they won a free kick 28 yards out.  With Charlie Mulgrew still running into position Scott Brown played a quick pass to Kris Commons but Celtic players were crowded out by a number of opponents and lost possession.  Rangers broke forward and applied pressure which brought the best out of Fraser Forster but Andrew Little put Rangers two ahead from what was clearly an offside position.

A further breakaway on the 77th minute resulted in Lee Wallace putting Rangers three goals ahead.

Despite being two goals down substitute Kris Commons started to dictate play and brought Celtic their best period of possession.  In the 89th minute Georgios Samaras broke through the Rangers defence but was scythed to the ground by Bocanegra.  The referee awarded a penalty and ordered the Rangers player off.  Scott Brown scored the penalty

Moments later Commons got the better of Whittaker on Celtic’s left before being brought down by the Rangers player.  Commons found Thomas Rogne with the resultant free kick which the defender powered home.

Todays result is yet to be finalised.

    I go for a 0.3 win

Not because of the inevitable liquidation

Not because it will be proven hun players are contracted to a third party

Not because it will be proven that the huns in admin have traded insolvently

No because it will be proven that the mibs and the SFA see benefits from Rangers success.

    0.3 I say

Ha Ha Ha Ha, gave big decisions against us when wewere striggling

    Thank you.

To all who are dissapointed. I don’t see the reason to be down today. Celtic players and Neil Lennon were under big pressure today. Some of the footballer did not stand that but it does not make them bad players. Wanayama was today worst Celtic player but he is not bad man n the pitch, quite opposite. Win today was a bonus but it did not happen and the referee was wrong few times and changed the game. What’s the difference? If not today then few days latter. Celtic is the champion and only that matters. They? They are dead.

  5. getting worried now, everyone else seems to have somebody who can vouch for their 100% Tim credentials……so I must be the green hun you are all looking for. It`s a fair cop, I love Ally and know that once Brian Kennedy sells Sale Sharks and then wins the Euro Millions we will be the “peepull” again….Hello…Hello ..

Maybe I missed it but ive not come across any mention of the Davies tackle on Izzy. Straight into his injured ankle and murray did nowt. Not even a foul. Shocking tackle and not usually in Davies’s script!!

My friends at least we will have a club to support next season.

    Hail hail .

think game turned after Cha was off. They are a poor side and 3rd goal looked offside even from behind the goal.

Not to worry, at least we can sing none bigotted songs, unlike them……….

  11. When you think of the team last season:

Izzy: best player in country. Injured nearly the whole season.

Kayal: fantastic. Out 2nd half of season.

Commons: revelation when he came in jan. Hardly played.

They are all massive losses to any team. Yet we have still won the league fairly comfortable. Who knows what next season- another years experience under their belt- will hold for us.

Murray just squared the books today. He sent 3 of them off in the “shame game”. So he’s back in the good books again. Never a S O. Yellow at best re Vic tackle.

    I agree mucker

Think il shut the computer down for this evening. I’ll get no pleasure from fellow Celts agreeing with me about the deficiencies I see in Celtic players anyway.

So ill leave it to those who can see ‘green shoots’ of life.

our midfield could have won us the game …they were poor today

  17. Well that was the week that was and it was shite indeed. Can’t win them all I suppose but both defeats hurt like hell! Losing a cup final and to them always hurts but makes it worse that we blew a treble and once in a lifetime chance to win the league at the bigot dome. What I think it shows is that we have a good team/manager at the moment rather than a great one.

When some of these guys look back in a few years and see what they missed out on I hope it disappoints them as much as it has hurt us. Some tough decisions coming up now for the manager to keep our season ticking over, hopefully another cup final to look forward to and banking the league sooner rather than later. Will be there on Sunday and for the killie game so let’s the party back on track!

P.S don’t fight with each other guys today was disappointment enough :-)

If you had bothered to read my post properly, you will have seen that I wasn’t directing it at HT, he thought I was and as far as I read,I told him that, there was nothing personal directed at him, I thought that was clear enough.

As for my opinions, they are as valid as anyone elses, and I have the right to say it like I see it, is that ok with you???

If I chose to call some posters gree huns [not u HT] I will call them green huns, cos that’s what they are imo, is that also ok with you???

he has progressed as we expected

  21. Ard Macha,i think the red an black scarves are supposedly on show to represent the original Govan colours of the Hooligans. But we all know that they are a nod to their socks,ie black with red band at the top as in up to our knees ……………..

Also did anyone else notice,i think Lafferty leading with his arm up to our defenders throat prior to the second goal.

one of the weirdest ibrox trips i have ever had.

So my conclusions.Apologies i havent scrolled back

Why are we bullied at ibrox. Well we are a young team agreed, But our main bully brown was at a peak of a diamond that was ineffective.

Why Cha? Wilson it appeared wasnt considered good enough which required a back 4 to be re-arranged. ( and not for first time)

Pre- Cha send off. Very poor. struggled to compete. Basic cross ball to Elbows caused problems, And key note. We didnt foul. We didnt lay a mark.

Wanyama. Great future ahead. But is lenny arraging the team to suit him? he is 20 not the focal point of celtic. Should have been hooked at half time. No surprise in his desperate tackle.

The 9 men were imense. Great heart

Lennon. Potential is great but must focus on football. I remember being 9 men at ibrox at half time but o’neill was there to focus team second half, truth is lenny your no good to us if you cant diret your team in matches like this. lesson learned? wait and see.

  23. kevtic

    good perspective

Anyway, I think with one win in 4 our amazing run of form has come to an end. St J will relish coming to cp spoil the party, a big task this week to lift the players, you wouldn’t be human if you played this last week and weren’t affected by it. I’ve a couple of selection queries but now’s probably not the time to share them.

Lennie, we’ll get going again and thanks for getting us this far

I thought the amount of covering and running that Ledley did was incredible today he very rarely got on the ball but I didn’t see that as his fault.

    night bhoys..

  26. We will be Champions and could still do a double and that would be great. Neil Lennon holding the league trophy aloft will sicken the majority of football fans and media in scotland and I can’t wait for that moment. We backed him on last day last season and after all the sh!te this wee country throws at him, nobody, nobody deserves their moment more than him. Hail Hail

Is it the case that the Celtic manager is unable to sit in the stand to watch the game, due to fears for his safety expressed by stadium security? police?

So he is not able to choose where he watches the game from?
