The OED suggests the word is much older.

  2. The sight of players collapsing to the turf at the end of a league game is highly unusual, it’s more commonly associated with the final whistle at a cup final. The winners about to collect the bit of silverware.

The blue clad players lying on the Ibrox grass told you everything you need to know about their mindset. Lose this one and it’s over. And lose they did. For some of them the priority now will be to avoid injury and get the ball rolling on their move away from Ibrox.

The Ibrox club also went big on This Is The Old Firm. Just highlighting the fact that their board are tying themselves in knots in an attempt to stay onside with some of their fan base. They are a club at war with themselves, Dave King, big Dougie, wee Stewarty, David Graham, club18-whatsit, decent bluenose, Neanderthal bluenose.

An enjoyable watch, with the best still to come.

  3. The buzz from yesterday will last a few days yet. Ange will know there’s more games to be won but we’ve done the hard work now.

A win that puts to bed the idea we know only way to play. We were professional and got the job done, for all their possession, the best chances by far came our way.

The players will take huge confidence from yesterday especially with Kyogo to come in again. I think the huns will regress and drop more points after yesterday.

Let’s build again this summer, we for the first time in a decade know our budget and can organise a traditional preseason without the hell that are qualifier games.

Let’s put the foundations in place for the next two or three years, Celtic.

  4. In the cold light of day.

Was concerning, to me, the number of our players who went down, or off, with cramps. Also, Hatate trying to keep up with a Rangers player who broke from halfway in the 2nd half, can’t remember who it was, he absolutely went backwards. The Rangers players never suffered from cramps, perhaps they didn’t put as much into the game as we did, but, I thought we were supposed to be much fitter due to our breaks in between games, certainly didn’t look like it. I know I’m nitpicking here after a great win, but it really didn’t look good, por cierto.

  5. I really enjoyed that yesterday (despite the increased heartrate). I had several restrictions in place, not in the pub to watch it, no cans in the house, no shouting and upsetting the neighbours allowed. All part of the arbitration for going to see Celtic at Easter.

    A few observations from me:

    Defence:

I thought our CHs and RB had a nightmare start and really didn’t settle until about 25 minute mark

After that, superb. Special mention to Taylor, probably his best game for us. The 2 CHs were extremely good. Juranovic was just OK for me. Ralston seemed to just come on in a bad mood – luckily it affected nothing. Hart had little to do and 2 great saves – one silly passing episode only

    Midfield:

Stood far too far off in the first half. Made a half fit Ramsay look back to his best. On the flip side, it allowed Rogic to drive us forward ; balance was probably right but scared me! The deeper set up second half suited our trio as they got much closer. Callum was great, Rogic was great, average for Hatate – left Starfelt with only 1 option too many times. Hard luck on O’Riley, was getting into it and driving us forward; Turnbull did OK and Bitton excellent

    Forwards:

Maeda, Giakomakis were exceptional in their effort. In our set up, you need , but boy did they do it. Maeda very unlucky not to score or get a penno. Giakomakis defended the box well too. Jota was more restrained but was some out ball. He threaded some amazing short passes out of the press – much have put some serious bluffs out there to fool them. Not his best game but good enough. Abada changed the dynamic at the right time and so unlucky not to wrap it up. What a pass from Giakomakis for the first chance

    Manager:

Very brave starting line up as usual and make the right subs at the right time. Tremendous

    Them:

They played a lot better than the pundits and fans described. They got out of our press very well on many occasions (helped by their 2 sitting players) but that set them up for the crosses which they like to put in from both sides. They put in some great crosses. Their reluctance to shoot was evident but part of that was our midfield protecting that area.

McGregor pulled of 2 fantastic saves and kept them in it again. Their downfall was being offside all the time and not having Morelos to bully our CHs and obviously the penalty winning prowess. I think their best players were Bassey, Kent and Sakala. Overall; very neat at the back and midfield but little up front. It was determination that gave them the front foot in the second half. They will struggle to score against St Mirren next week. Crucial that we been St J

Good game management for me. Nothing to worry about.

    The TFOD2.1 work every angle.

AMcG all to often has the look of someone who swims in caffeine.

Yesterday it looked like they were all in the pool.

We are not working every angle to the extent the do.

Then you have the situation that the drug testing regime in the SPL is practically non existent.

Given what happened on the park — they are better conditioned than we are.

Plus they limited their subs — we went all in.

    Work to be done.

Good summary, although you are being a bit kind to Hatate saying he was average. Thought he should have been hooked at half time, was completely off the pace of the game . Needs left out staring lineup for a few games.

The OED suggests the word is much older.

I do see earlier origins of the word so you are correct.

  10. The “this is the old firm” adverts at ipox. One of their biggest games of the season and they were either unable to sell some advertising time or decided to knock back a chunk of money to make some random point.. No wonder they are $%£&ed

  11. Good morning all.

That Monday morning feeling when you awaken and remember you beat sevco in a crucial game.

  12. Good morning from a wer north staffs.

    A few observations from me:

    ———-

Very fair summary. I thought we were well off our best, tho replaced the lack of inspiration with a heap of perspiration and a bit of dig across all positions we’ve lacked for a wee while. Esp big Jacko and our 2 centre backs !!

I’ve been concerned about Hatate’s performances since his blistering debut but, as someone pointed out, he’s just back from an international Japan jaunt. Clearly he showed enuff in training to suggest he was the auto-choice for a starting shift – but the bloke is patently shagged out. He was blowing both ends and, as St Tams says, had a slight off day which makes the win all the more remarkable IMO.

Great to graft a win when you’re not full of flair and flicks. League winning form, that is.

  14. It’s probably nit picking ,however I hate nits 😜

We wullie gave gia the hard ” any more and your off stare ”

Later on in the game a tic defender had an altercation with a hun ( can’t remember who ) in the box prior to a corner . The hun had lost the plot , wee wullie dragged him away and held on to try and stop the hun , even though the hun was pushing and grabbing at Wee wullie not a thing said of done …

Is that a thing these days referees holding back angry players to calm them down to avoid making decisions ?

Betting patterns for penalty / red cards would be interesting .

Wee wullie had opportunities for both yesterday and was the model of constraint in his handling of the game .

    Anyhoo sod them all …

  15. Good morning all from a happy clappy Garngad

Everyone of our bhoys gave their all. Some didn’t have as good a game as others ie. passing, turning over posession. But by goodness the effort was there from them all.

Think I must have been playing I’m knackered. :) :)

    D :)

  16. !!Bada Bing!! on

Well within our rights to ban the huns from CP, after the bottle attacks on players and staff, the SFA mob will be hiding under their desks again.

  17. Penalties:

A good few years ago, it came to light, that we had not been awarded a domestic penalty in a 15 month period.

It was such an outlier that , for a week or two, it became a discussion topic on all football phone in programmes, and was written about in the press.

What could be the reason for Celtic not getting penalties?🤔

Even Ross Co, St Mirren, Inverness had at least 4 or 5….. Rangers were comfortably in double figures…. Celtic Nil,Zip, Nada… how could this be?

The upshot was that ( working from memory)

during the next 4 or 5 weeks we were awarded 3 penalties….Presumably referees were subliminally influenced and did not wish to be grouped in with the Masonic Conspiracy and awarded (most of ) the penalties that we deserved in those games.

    Jump forward to 2022.

The past few weeks saw a number of “Penalty to Ranger” memes circulating amongst Celtic Supporters.

I forwarded them to all of my Tim friends and colleagues. However, what really surprised me, was that I also received many of them from Non Celtic friends.

Hearts, Motherwell, Man United, Aberdeen…even a Rangers fan.

“Penalty to Rangers” has crossed over into mainstream….perhaps it too was a subliminal influener when Willie Collum decided not to award a penalty to them yesterday.

Think it was Fashion Junior Sakala that wee Wullie pulled away … think Fash Jnr was trying to suggest that big Carl was at it with cramp …

Funny how when cheat MacGregor gets praise when trying to waste time at any given opportunity when the Huns are winning…. CCV (the fridge) and Carl were pretty dam good yesterday

Astute observation about their body language at full time.

    Without overdoing it? …..

…. basically, Sevco are spent ….

    At every level.

Two clubs with diametrically opposed trajectories.

PS – point taken about us cramping.

    We’ll get fitter.

If (and it is still an if) we win the league, Ange’s control of our fitness programme schedule for the season increases significantly.

    CL 1st round qualifiers, 1st leg – 05 July

CL Group Match Day One – 06 September

  20. I take it Cryin Jack won’t get pulled up for shoving big Gia’s face into the ground after actually having a wee fly kick at him after the big man done him … I thought Gia, Nir and Tony Ralston’s yellows were excellent yesterday … I actually cheered all 3 and no complaints with the yellow cards brandished :-)

  21. prestonpans bhoys on

Did Walker not say to McCoist ‘when’s Rangers penalty’ and all we got from him was silence 😂😂

  22. Por Cierto – Atate was poor throughout his hour and was clearly not fit to play, probably due to the travelling for the WCQs. Mistake in hindsight to start with him.

Starfelt cramp was real. No game management there, you can see him struggling with it before he went down. He managed to clear a FK away then crumbled.

Ange says our fitness would peak for the run in, maybe some of them have been training too hard and not recovering for the game.

  23. The Onlooker 11.32am

Exactly … and some might think the “media” can’t influence things … of course that can

I vaguely remember a game against them at Ibrox and Craig Thompson (who I think was also a creditor when the first Rangers liquidated) … anyhow in the head up to the game Chris Sutton was quite outspoken and more or less put a bit of pressure on Thompson and called him out pre match (think the game was on BT) Thompson then went on to actually have a decent game … in my opinion this was linked to big Chris applying a bit of pressure …. pretty sad but you need to use any method you can to at least get a level playing field …. Again you are correct even Andy Walker & McCoist had their wee joke about when the Huns were going to get their penalty … as you say maybe it just worked against them yesterday … long may that continue :-)

  24. PPB 12.03pm

McCoist actually answered “hopefully in the next minute” … we were at 91mins on the clock

  25. In case you haven’t seen this view, it is superb.

Two thoughts – why is Rogic’s first goal celebration so understated? Unusual for him.

Take a look at the Huns in the crowd at both goals. They look completely resigned, as if they expected them.

Walker was a lot more pro Celtic yesterday than I can ever remember him being.

It was almost like he was a Celtic fan from a Celtic supporting background who had played for the Club.

    Very odd.

  27. Whole thread on FF about McCoist not sticking up for them and snorkelling up Andy Walker’s a**.

Apparently he got into an instagram barney later with one of them and called him scum :)

    Compare it to the second.

I think it showed his maturity and sang froid. It was only an equaliser after a very poor start, so he wasn’t going to let himself get carried away with so much of the game left to play.

  29. BillyBhoy1967 on

Well, that was a tense watch yesterday. A nightmare start, we get our noses in front, and the second half was the best defensive shift a Celtic team has put in since the David Marshall inspired 0-0 in the Nou Camp.

I thought, apart from Hatate who was subdued, every player played heroicly. Even the much maligned Greg Taylor had his finest 90 mins in the hoops.

A couple of wee points. Sevco shelled 47 crosses into our box and we cleared 43 of them. I thought that was beyond the ability of our back four. Simply stunning.

Also, I just read on FF that the bottle from the hun end was thrown as Hart was entering the penalty box for the restart and it smashed against the crossbar! The two bottle incidents should put the tin lid on any hun allocation for future games at Celtic Park. I’m already fearing the worst if we win the next one.Particularly as my son has a ticket!
