Rascal racism

710

Football’s impudent scamps have long caused more annoyance than actual harm to their clubs.  Many live by a different moral code to the rest of us which leads to all sorts of excesses, including the occasional violent bust-up.

Can you kick a team mate on the training field and punch him in the dressing room?  You bet, there are hundreds of precedents for you.  You can certainly kick lumps out of an opponent, but what about doling out racial references in the middle of a game?

The use of a racist term in my office, and I’m sure your workplace, would lead to summary disciplinary procedures, but football has a way of looking at miscreants through rose tinted lenses.  The hoary old defence on these occasions, be if for footballers or anyone else, is ‘He’s not a racist, some of his best friends are….’.

This doesn’t matter.  The guilty party may be more rascal than racist but he needs to be treated in the same way anyone else using racist language in the workplace would be.  English football has done enormous work to combat racism since the 1980s but it’s in danger of undermining these efforts by accommodating people who should know better.

  1. Boyd for Celtic?

I think Neil is playing some mind games. ;)

I’m sure Neil would happily see Boyd back in their squad because he would be no threat at all to Celtic. The guy has obviously made some decent money over the last few years and doesn’t seem like the type who would work harder than ever, for a lot less money, which he would need to. I hope he rejoins them because he isn’t one of those players who would be determined to prove the doubters wrong.

  2. Campbell C0rrigan (Police Typing fail) has 500,000 hits on his video on Youtube!

Two and a half times the number of hits Bob Dylan has on “Shelter From The Storm!

    Makes you wonder, don’t it?

see to be honest with you m8 as a kid i have dodged the train fare myself may times

but the difference was that when i got caught- i either paid the fare or got off

even as a boy i was still man enough to face the consequences

Theres no way i would be having an interview in the retard and claiming innocence either

anyway last word on the subject for me spikey, the floor is all yours

Neil lennon today did not rule out signing messi for celtic

    absolutely true by the way

  6. I think it’s unfair to compare the talented Alfie Conn with the slimeball Boyd.

I reckon Alfie Conn gave it his best shot when at Celtic including against the huns.

Alfie’s best shot against the huns came off the inside of the post.

From about thirty yards. Belter of a shot,I thought it summed up his time with us.

It didn’t work out,but it wasn’t for the want of class or application.

Great to see Ki getting the Korean Player Of The Year Award.

    Should enhance his transfer value.

Whilst I would prefer that we keep the current squad intact until the summer,if someone needs to be sold to raise funds for a decent striker..that person is Ki.

He is more suited to the style of play in the Italian and Spanish leagues.

Hope Blackman gets some gametime against Killie…I would hate to see Izzy thrown in against the GA.

Still remember that Hun,Craig Patterson, clattering Henrik on the byeline on his return from his injury.

  9. Bobby’s

I thought it hit the crossbar, at Ibrox from memory.

Maybe Lenny would sign Boyd just for the fun of him, Johann and Thommo kicking the sh.. out of him everyday in training.

Boyd was always going to be found out when leaving the huns.

B.t.w. how many penalties did he score from to boost his tally? The same could be said of the diving cheat Jelavic.

  10. Joe Filippis Haircut on

As a Celtic supporter I will be happy with whoever Lennie wants to sign for Celtic It interests me though how El Deigo Bhoy knows that if we did sign Boyd he wouldnt try as hard as Alfie Conn did? Does he have a direct line to the player ? I dont think Boyd would actualy sign for us but I do not know for certain its just my gut feeling. H.H.

  11. Ma granniy’s hairdresser told her that she heard it from PL that we have swopped Broony for Messi, Iniesta and Xavi- – – True, will happen in January, honest!

    fair do’s chief

in fact i remember being somewhat excited at the lad playin for Scotland

he looked like a player at international level, early doors

    sadly, that changed

more down to attitude rather than ability

    a common problem

wherever he goes, i have no beef with the guy

instead, i have cheddar, pickled onion and worcester sauce

The point I was making about the supermarket was that by presenting a invalid ticket on a train it was like trying to pay for goods in a shop with an invalid voucher. If someone was refusing to pay at the till in a busy shop (on Christmas eve for instance) and using foul and abusive language to the checkout girl and holding up the queue then I’d have no sympathy for him if he was removed.

I’d agree with you if the Big Man knocked lumps out of the wee guy, but he didn’t. He just “papped him out” as someone put brilliantly put it. The same thing would happen in any bar if you refused to pay for a round of drinks then started swearing at people.

He wouldn’t have hit the deck if he hadn’t resisted ejection or, better still, just paid for a ticket or left himself like he was asked to a dozen times.

By the way, I realise that by the letter of the law it probably has to be looked at and dealt with but I think it’s a shame that he may end up having an assault conviction and that more people don’t think what he did was understandable.

Making him dress as Hoopy the Huddle hound in the small print of his contract would be a cracking bit of humiliation for him and the Huns. Could lift the squad morale no end!

Alfie Conn’s shot that struck the left hand post agin’ the GA?

Try fifteen yards….you just knew that he was never going to score against them…

On the other hand, never thought that Kenny Miller would give us anything other than his best, when he was signed.

Lawwell treated Kenny and Garry Cauldwell very shabbily, given that they gave us the opportunity to sign them on a Bosman.

    Well we certainly got blowback…..

Craig Moore tackle on Henrik, I lost it that day ,still ashamed at what I shouted after it:O(

  18. Chris Boyd – please get a grip. Wasn’t he part of the famous monster munch rebellion against PLG at Ibroke. There are many former H*ns i’d like to see in a Celtic strip, Arteta for 1, but Chris Boyd really! It has to be a big no Lenny.

  23. Ten Men Won The League on

Aberdeen’s Peter Pawlett has had a red card rescinded by the Scottish Football Association’s fast-track tribunal.

Pawlett was sent off after a lunging tackle on Hibernian’s Lewis Stevenson during a 1-0 victory for the Dons.

And Pawlett’s sending off has now been downgraded to a yellow card for unsporting behaviour

I don’t remember James Forrest getting just a yellow for a similar challenge on the Hamilton player last January, eh Mr Collum?
