Referee lies, bullying, sectarian behaviour? Watch your back, Celtic

1441

Well done to the Daily Record for revealing that SFA referee, Eddie Smith, was the policeman who reported Celtic fans to Uefa for singing offensive songs against Rennes last month.  Smith was one of the referees who declined to make his services available as referees went on strike last season while Celtic took-on the SFA amid accusations of lies, bullying, sectarian behaviour and cover-ups among referees at the association.  He is no longer on the Grade 1 list.

Following the strike the SFA Head of Referee Administration was removed from his post and referee, Dougie MacDonald, who was accused of lying to Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, resigned, prompting then-Celtic chairman, Dr John Reid, to say the club felt vindicated in raising their concerns.

Vindicated, no doubt, but with more than a few feeling bitter towards the club.

While the Daily Record can reflect on some good work today, bizarrely, the Scotsman newspaper accused Celtic fans of sectarian chanting at the Rennes game, something even police-gossip, Eddie Smith, didn’t accuse them of.

Why stop at accusations of sectarian behaviour?  If the Scotsman are going to be ridiculous, why not accused Celtic fans of genocide and treason?  Better still, just say lots of them have funny names, go to strange schools but will never ascent to the British throne.

Celtic have 123-years of non-sectarian history, it is downright offensive to suggest otherwise.

How’s about a compromise. Re the IRA add ons.

We are never going to agree are we, the establishment will not give up on their attacks against the club, they are offended by US and will always be offended by US so give them something to be offended about.

Instead of singing……. Ooh Ah up the Ra…..Ooh Ah up the Ra

    We change it to

Ooh Ah Pay you Tax…Ooh Ah Pay your Tax…..

    Now that would offend them.

Would we be reported for offending them for singing that. I would very much doubt it.

How else will anyone ever sell a paper?

  3. We were told that the Tax Tribunal would conclude in November with the decision 12 weeks or so later. If it is to continue in January, does that mean that the decision won’t now be known until April?

And what’s taking them so bloody long to hear evidence anyway?

Rennes game – “Ooh ah up the Ra” got an airing very early on from the GB.

Consequently it is still on their roster.

  5. I understand the song which has attracted the attention of UEFA is the Celtic Symphony, made popular by the Wolfetones.

The song is available to purchase on Amazon and on iTunes. Now surely if it is illegal then 2 of the world’s largest companies would not be selling it on their websites ? I note that the Famine Song is not available on any of these sites, but then we know that it is illegal. Neither are there any offensive songs available about Jock Stein, you can however buy a sanitised version of the Billy Boys with certain words removed.

Offensive is different , some people find Eminem offensive, others find the X Factor offensive, but those songs don’t see 17 year old kids dragged from their houses as though they were terrorists, and don’t attract from publicity seeking political changelings like Paul McBride.

I have thought long and hard about this, his constant vilification of the green brigade was bad enough, the fact that he quite happily sat back and enjoyed the illegal abuse of Celtic supporters at Celtic park every hun home game.

Sanctioned heavy handed abuse of Celtic supporters by the polis. The final straw for me is his censureship of political songs to appease the most overt sectarian racist country in the western world. This appeasement is directly responsible for the current action and vilification of the Celtic support and as far as I’m concerned is fully supported by him and the board. His threats to hound Celtic supporters out of Celtic park for mentioning a legitimate force for good, who now share power as a result of their action. He is taking us back to the 70’s. The hunmeeja are now justified to print anything they dream up because of spineless SCUM like him have announced they are in step with the sectarian racist agenda.

That is probably the worst possible news for The Odd Nugget. He now needs to find the dough to keep Rangers going through to April, maybe later – there’s no guarantee that the case won’t be continued after the January session either.

If his gamble was that Rangers might win the Tax Case, it’s just cost him another 4 months of running costs at +£3M per month. That surely is an ante upped.

Of course, there is little evidence that he has that kind of money, and plenty that suggests he doesn’t. Having given a Fixed Charge over Ibrox to Close Bros in exchange for some cash flow support last month, I’d say the odds on a Rangers insolvency just increased substantially.

Does that mean you were in the middle of all the singing?

I was far enough away to here what the GB were singing and it was “Ooh Ah Up the Ra”.

I cannot comment on what you or the people next to you were singing but that is what I heard.

If the plan is “Ooh Ah Up the Celts” then fair enough.

However you need to make sure everyone knows about it.

Please note I commented about this straight after the Rennes game – MMcG joke included – and no-one took me to task about getting it wrong.

Consequently I fear too many on here are suffering from selective amnesia or worse.

Finally interesting that the GB has stopped singing about the “Ra” in that chant.

That is why the bill is called “offensive behaviour at football” – it enables Celtic supporters specifically to be targeted.

  16. In my opinion, Paul McBride is slavering for this act against Celtic to become law. He’s a typical lawyer. They don’t see justice, they see pound signs. He’s not that good either. There are young solicitors here in Belfast who would eat him in a court. He’s certainly no Celtic man. Celtic men and women have at their heart an understanding of justice, honesty, and fair play. It’s why John Reid wasn’t universally liked. Peter Lawell is overpaid and in the grip of DD, and he doesn’t understand justice either. Justice and the Law are two different things, as we discovered in N.Ireland since Partition. No-one (in authority) cares about it (justice). You have to seek it for itself and for your neighbors and friends. These things need to be challenged by the club, in court if needs be, and by a better man than Paul McBride QC.

    Why does Whyte want time?

He just wants money. He makes money when they suffer the insolvency event. But he wanted that to be because of the big tax bill, which didn’t happen on his watch and he tried his best to prevent the club from going bust, honest he did gov.

I haven’t set foot in Celtic Park since just before Dr John Reid got the gig .[ that really offended me ]

I left Scotland for many reasons —- one of those reasons was my concern that The SNP would end up in power — I was frightened by the prospect

    The Songs Debate ?

I am all for the singing of Political Songs ——– sing them on the streets , sing them in the boozer , sing them where you want , when you want. Do it -engage in a political act and then deal with the consequences of your actions — Real Politics .

Sing Political Songs at Celtic Park and Celtic have to deal with the consequences . If Celtic ask you to stop are you willing to act in accordance with Celtic’s wishes? —– What if Celtic chose to eject / ban people for singing certain songs ?—— Do you accept that Celtic have that right ? ——- What are you going to do about it ? ——-Politics

Maybe those who object to some of the songs at Celtic Park could volubly express their displeasure . It’s hard for a few hundred voices to be heard if 30 thousand people are shouting /singing something else . That too is a political act . That is real politics ..

Do it yourself -if you don’t do it for yourself the likes of UEFA / The Celtic Board / The Establishment will do it for you..

    Get up -stand up etc.

  24. Re Moonbeams – there’s every chance he sneak out from behind the rock he’s cowering under once this process is complete.

Someone posted this at the weekend, but i think many may have misssed it. Scandalous stuff, especially when you consider how the residents of Dalmarnock were treated by Glasgow Council.

    From the Sun:

Murray in £5m games deal probe

    By PAUL DRURY

    Published: 14 Nov 2011

FORMER Rangers chief Sir David Murray is facing calls for a probe over a Commonwealth Games land deal which made his firm almost £5million.

The tycoon’s property business paid just £375,000 for the site in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, in 2005.

But just four years later the same land was valued at a massive £7.3million before being sold to quango Clyde Gateway for £5.1million of taxpayers’ cash. Nats MSP James Dornan said: “I want an inquiry into the incredible upturn in this land’s value.

“When property values were falling in the recession, these valuers believed this site had increased in value by 20 times. I intend to write to Audit Scotland asking them to investigate.”

Clyde Gateway has a £150million budget to help Glasgow make the most of hosting the 2014 Games. Officials were urged to buy the site so it would not become “a highly-visible reminder of another era”.

A spokesman for Clyde Gateway said: “The sum paid was less than the independent valuation.”

Jestyn Davies, boss of the firm owned by Sir David, left, added: “We were able to achieve a sale and move on.”
