Regan should hide his face from Celtic players at Hampden

155

Tomorrow evening four or five Celtic players will represent Scotland in a match of the upmost importance to the SFA. The Association, who employ around 170 people, face a financial cliff edge if they fail to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Current income does not match expenditure; financial reserves are dwindling, with no certainty ahead. The existing deal with Sky TV ends next summer, while William Hill’s sponsorship of the Scottish Cup has an additional year to run. Qualification for Russian 2018, with the millions it would bring, is a financial necessity.

I’m a Scotland fan and a Gordon Strachan fan, but I’m a Celtic fan first and foremost. It grates that the very same people who rejected the Celtic and SPFL’s call for a review into (among other things) the conduct of their officeholders, now need our players to pay their wages.  They want us to feed them, but God forbid you want SFA officeholders to be accountable for actions.

If Regan, Petrie and their cronies know anything about motivating footballers, they will hide their faces from the Celtic players around Hampden.

Maybe I should do the team talk tomorrow.

NEW CQN PODCAST FROM CELTIC PARK ON SATURDAY

Kevin Graham is back with a new CQN Podcast from Saturday. He talks to supporters on the bus on the way to Parkhead, interviews John Paul Taylor outside the ground and captures the atmosphere and action inside the ground before getting some more supporters’ views on the bus home after an eventful afternoon at Celtic Park.

Apologies for a few sweary words in this podcast near the end.

  1. Good evening, friends or friend?

A bit quiet on here, 1 post in the last hour? Ho hum.

  2. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

    Gerry at 5.23.

It looks like I’ll miss out on a ticket as I won’t get to the ticket office until after 2 tomorrow. I refuse to pay any booking charge ( if there is one) and the special deliery rip off.

If I do get one, I’ll give it to junior if he is not working on the day of the semi final. He ‘s not on the home ticket scheme.

I’m trying to stay awake for The Apprentice.

    Boys? :)

  4. Did someone mention “double standards” ?

Seems it’s okay to support Celtic, and financially, the SFA, in a Cup competition, but it’s not okay to support those same Celtic players when they turn out for the national team . Really ?

Personally, I’m fine with both cases, but it’s up to each individual to make the choice and he/she should be free of criticism whatever her or she chooses.

  5. BB- you are correct, i get where guys do not support Scottish Cup ties and Hampden games, and respect that.I just want to support the team, sounds simplistic, not alone by any means.I dislike international football,as i devote my time, heart, energy and hard earned to Celtic, and always will.I like to see our players doing well, but the injuries , and lack of rest , hacks me off.HH

    I support Celtic.

I don’t go to away games and I don’t go to Hampden.

I hate the SFA and what it stands for.

I have not been to a Scotland game for more than 35 years after which I wrote a letter to the Celtic View saying why I would not go back.

The View published my letter and it had the banner headline.

I respect anyone who wants to go and support Scotland if that’s what they want.

I only want the best for Celtic and 6 or 7 players running about Russia when I’d rather they were resting in preparation for our assault on another Champions League does not suit me.

    Everyone to their own.

If anyone needs a football fix . Tranmere v Leyton Orient on BT sport the now.

Tranmere manager , Micky Mellon , is a big Celtic fan.

Apology’s if you thought I was having a dig!

    Just stating my position.

    No harm meant!

  9. FtSFA and their Hamdump park

    Oooops Gooood Evening CQN:-))

Reagan, Bryson, Dickson, and him who will be sitting in the Hibs directors section Petrie, need removed with their cabal, before I eve return to that place, if ever

And I also believe Celtic should play our U-21 team in this nonsense League Cup – a distraction of real games we need to compete in

    ( and that’s me in a good mood :-))))

  10. Bada Bing,

I believe most will think the same. Just wanted to highlight that within the space of a couple of pages, we had criticism, inferred or otherwise, of those who wanted to support the national team, yet not a word of criticism of the indirect support of the SFA by those who’s love of Celtic ( which i hugely admire, btw ) will see them support our team no matter what.

  11. Philboy,

No apology necessary. I got what you were saying.

tbh, just trying to stimulate some debate / argument / start a fight. :-))

  12. !!BADA BING!!

Finally got your nom de blog right….sorry.

If we all agreed about everything all the time, it would be even quieter on here than it has been of late. The orgy of backslapping and virtual man-hugging would drive more posters away than any amount of pop-up ads and huns wearing fake spectacles and moustaches tend to do.

  13. Supporting Celtic and Supporting The Scottish National Team is Not Mutually Exclusive.

In Fact Both Are Victims Of The Corrupt SFA.

Both Strive To Succeed Despite The Incompetent SFA.

    Hail Hail

  14. Paul 67,

Your article reflects my thought exactly.

    Celtic first, always.

I must admit, I take more of an interest when Scotland have multiple Celtic players in the team.

I always want Scotland to do well, however i can understand the thoughts of those of us who couldn’t care less.

  15. HRVATSKI JIM @ 8:32 PM,

Spot on, they’d love this to go away, we must keep reminding folk…

For the DOS/EBT Years (over a decade) of Tax Evasion Rangers were fined £250,000 For Non Disclosure of Documents…

    That’s the Truth!

    Hail Hail

  16. Like to see scotland win because I am scottish. I am proud of irish background and reserve the right to that… Shame some in scotland can see that you can embrace more than one part of your being. Neither part is mutually exclusive nor should it be…

Popular press feeds of the ignorance of its readers and in many ways the sfa does the same with regards supporters

Most all other organisations had a past that embodied such intolerance but one by one the old ways went regards multi cultural ism.

Time is the enemy of intolerance.

As an aside i would like to see celtic have a memorial remembering the great hunger given the how our club was brought into being and the Eastend of Glasgow is fitting given that was the settlement for a significant amount of irish immigrants escaping starvation. This is another rich part of your history that should be honoured and shared

Open to all immigrants we accept all we represent all
