Regionalisation needs to be discussed before reorganisation

827

Dramatic and ambitions developments in European leagues, in this instance Russian and Ukraine, who have taken Michel Platini’s endorsement for the regionalisation of domestic leagues, should inspire the imagination of every football fan and administrator in a league with problems.

Scotland has a league with problems.

Our clubs and national association are committed to reorganisation but neither proposal from the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League does anything to halt the inevitable decline and marginalisation of our clubs.

In the 60s, 70s and 80s well-run Scottish provincial clubs regularly beat leading teams from big European countries but since then our small domestic market TV market has made most Scottish clubs also-rans, both in Europe and at home.  We have a league system where the battle for second place is competitive and interesting but does not carry a meaningful reward; only one club is capable of winning the league.

Before making any changes to our league system we need to consider what changes are happening elsewhere in Europe and have a mature conversation about regionalisation.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? It is a product of literary brilliance. Get it here in time for Christmas!

  1. Usual morning routine was,

Shower, shave etc, get to work for 8, have a carry on with colleagues for five minutes while making the coffee, round to my room, check emails, log on to CQN for Celtic update.

Last part is now becoming depressing.

Morning JoBo, what’s happening in Celtic?

We are currently having to play in the most bent football set-up on the planet.

I say this, not because of any comparison to ,say, the financial shenanigans in Italian football or the match-fixing in Chinese football, but because of the bias towards bigotry, sectarianism and outright broad-spectrum violence epitomised by one single club and its rabid followers.

This is compounded by the rot infesting the governing bodies, and the blatant crassness of the match officials who appear to go out of their way to green-light, at every opportunity, fouls on our players with no hope of recompense in any form; thus we have once stellar signings like Kayal and Izzaguire sidelined for months and then having to limp back to a form which will forever be compromised.

And the strange way our fixtures are determined will be a perennial problem as long we allow ourselves to be so disrespected.

And you’d think our achievements, coming from such a small country, prevailing against truly super-massive opposition, would bring us plaudits from every corner of domestic sports criticism, but that just doesn’t happen. The best we can hope for is to be damned by faint praise.

( I won’t even expand on the brickbats our manager has had to contend with. Unheard of in the global annals of football.)

Meanwhile, a proven criminal organisation is constantly pumped up by spurious world records and struts its 140yrs. of psychopathy with impunity.

    Only in Scotland.

    _________

Kayal was done twice, don’t forget, the brutal assault carried out on him on that fateful day at Inverness, where our players were butchered with impunity. This was long before the Elbow’s incident.Only now is he beginning to get back to his best.

Liam Kelly nearly crippled wee James Forrest at Hampden Park in the League Cup Final.Everybody seems to forget about that ridiculous challenge, that went unpunished. And it has set the wee man back, big time.

Horrific tackles on our players are being tolerated. It has to stop.Maybe the club should go after the MIBs and hit them in the pocket, sue them for failing to protect our footballers ,wages and insurance fees that are costing the club a fortune, plus denying us the talent of these injured players.

Remember the outrage when Bobo broke a wee guy’s leg? The public outcry, the witch-hunt? It was a national scandal, made front page headlines.

Yet our players are the subject of blatant and dangerous foul play on a weekly basis, and there is not a word about it.

Well done Celtic..A story this morning that 20 Christmas presents meant for sick children have been stolen from Great Ormond St Hospital…[decent presents…wii…X-Box and similar] Local police described the theft as ‘unbelievable’

Celtic Football Club have stepped in and said that they will immediately replace all the stolen presents.

I know they can afford it[?]but good effort all the same.

I watched the Barça v Atletico Madrid game from the weekend and I was struck by the quality of the refereeing. Yes, he was human, and he made a few errors, but at the forefront of his and the officials minds was the safety of the players, and any dangerous play was dealt with very quickly.

When we see howteams in Scotland set out to play Celtic it is obvious that one of the tactics used by many of them is anklegrinding, because they are well aware that the officials (hah!) will do very very little about it.

Of course, nothing will be done about it.

  10. Well done, Celtic, tepping in after the Great Ormond Street incident …

Straight from Chucks mouth and they are struggling to even achieve that.

    EPIC FAIL!

  15. The refereeing when we played in The CL was one of the reasons we could actually move forward, one of the reasons we could actually compete at the highest level. It was about football, as opposed to violence, which, again,is epitomised, characterised and encouraged by t’rankers; they seriously needed to get the permanent boot from football.

Instead, there they are, at the bottom of the set-up, spreading their poisonous brand of thuggery from the base, up.

And the absolute ineptitude of the masons in black has been entrenched since the Dallas days hammered that ethos permanently into Scottish football. And instead of being hurled into the wilderness, the compromised rogue gets a secure position within uefa to further expand his twisted agenda.

Well, masonry has never been deterred or constricted by boundaries, physical or moral.

Just heard about Celtics very kind offer to replace the stolen presents. Maybe the sevconian regime (not sure that’s what they are called now) could do likewise with them millions they will rake in by 1 pm today ;-)

Hopefully Tony Stokes gets his act together soon.

I know that he is a wee bit of a rogue at times, likes the odd pint,a punt and the birds. But there is no harm in him,the injury obviously left him with too much time on his hands.

  20. Morning all!

Marvellous gesture from CFC to replace the presents that were stolen from Great Ormond Street Hospital – the thieves should be flogged in public.

How reliable is the £2m figure though?

If the huns know they’ve bombed they might have put out the rumour of £2m so that £5m would be seen as a relative successful result, rather than the ignominious failure it actually is.

    We’ll find out soon enough.
