Regionalisation needs to be discussed before reorganisation

827

Dramatic and ambitions developments in European leagues, in this instance Russian and Ukraine, who have taken Michel Platini’s endorsement for the regionalisation of domestic leagues, should inspire the imagination of every football fan and administrator in a league with problems.

Scotland has a league with problems.

Our clubs and national association are committed to reorganisation but neither proposal from the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League does anything to halt the inevitable decline and marginalisation of our clubs.

In the 60s, 70s and 80s well-run Scottish provincial clubs regularly beat leading teams from big European countries but since then our small domestic market TV market has made most Scottish clubs also-rans, both in Europe and at home.  We have a league system where the battle for second place is competitive and interesting but does not carry a meaningful reward; only one club is capable of winning the league.

Before making any changes to our league system we need to consider what changes are happening elsewhere in Europe and have a mature conversation about regionalisation.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? It is a product of literary brilliance. Get it here in time for Christmas!

  2. Big FF on R5Live now re the pressies…. He would like Juve in the draw on Thursday. Performing well for Celtic will keep him in the England squad – Good lad!

  3. Marrakesh Express on

I may have missed it but did Snyde or Shortbread give out the news that Celtic had helped out Great Ormod Street Hospital?

I actually heard it on 5Live at 8-30.

  4. Today’s the day for Charlie Green. Have the Govan fans given him all their xmas giro money? Have 500,000,000 fans worldwide dug deep to save the company that owns the club that bought the assets of the club they love?

  5. Any minute now Chunkles will start givin’ away the shares like confetti so he and t’rankers can claim another phony wurrlld reccurd.

Just wait until bits start falling off iPox…..have you seen the state of the place?

Superglue and sticky-back plastic holding it together, and the surrounding area looks like a wasteland….which it is.

Why am I bothered? I’m not. I just like keeping a spotlight on all things sevcovian, because if we don’t, all you get is the msm trumpeting the grandiose delusions emanating from the maw of Chunkles and his co-conspirators.

Plus, I won’t be truly happy until they are sunk without trace.

    Sounds about right.

He’ll find someone to threaten for this failing.

He can always swap some shares for some magic beans. probably more useful than Rankers shares.

I am not a violent person – but I would volunteer to do the flogging!

What if it was a child that stole the gifts ?

  9. Reports leaked yesterday of only £2m having been invested by the Sevco fans immediately struck me as news management. Ensuring that a sum of say £5m from fans + £17m from institutional investors could be celebrated as an overwhelming success for a lower league club, during recessionary times, a week before Christmas, yada, yada, yada…..

    A world record in fact.

  10. Lionel messi has just signed on at Barca till 2018 scuppering any chance Celtic had of signing him ;)

Nice touch from Celtic replacing the great ormond st stolen xmas gifts.

There’s a story on Sky News on the theft. I just sent sky news an email informing them of Celtics gesture as it wasn’t mentioned.

  12. pabloh_AKA_NEIL LENNON on

Just think – if every sevco fan around the world gives just one pound to their sick cause;?Chico would raise £500million. Would the 500m fans please step forward…tumbleweed…

  13. JohnnyClash – you are right to be cynical, we’ve seen it all before. But regardless of what is said this afternoon, if the fans haven’t dug deep then Green has to buy the leftovers and he doesn’t have the money to do so. You’d have thought Uncle Walter would have been good for a couple of million, Ally for a million, Greigsy and Sandy half a mill each, The Blue Knights and their billionaire backers a few hundred grand and Jabba a sheep farm.

That should have been 5 million before asking the punters to part with their piggy banks life savings.

  14. Bom dia,

Been awhile since I’ve been sniffing about.

It’s close season here in Brasil (state championships not due to start until end of Jan) so there’s not much happening, apart from a flurry of transfer rumours.

    Two that may immediately interest:

Junior Pernambucano (ex of Lyon) has left Vasco to go to NY Red Bulls. Apparently the NY Red Bulls, Global Sporting Director (who was Junior’s old manager at Lyon) recommended him to NY Red Bulls, Sporting Director who signed him. The two managers in question? Gerard Houlier and Andy Roxburgh.

Juan Roman Riquelme, I saw a fair bit of noise on here last night about Roman, canny see it (but I’ve been wrong – oftimes before). Boca have just reappointed Carlos Bianchi as manager. However, if he does leave, Palmeiras (although relegated to Serie B this year) are said to be keen and have the offer of big Contract, plus Libertadores fitba (they won the Copa do Brasil this year).

    Other possible moves:

Lucio (Juventus) to São Paulo (or Cruzeiro)

    Robinho (Milan) to Santos

    Pato (Milan) to Corinthians

Also, Vasco’s international centre half (and a fair player) Dedê is on the market. Apparently, his agent contacted Celtic but was told “Not at that price. No thanks”

Last one – Taking the family to NY for Crimbo and want to catch the game on the 26th. Which of the NY CSC’s (we’re staying Midtown) is best to take a 3yr old to?

Mr Green has obviously studied Quantum theory, and believes a cat can be alive and dead at the same time.

However, he fails to mention that it’s only when when the phenomena is “observed” that the status can be finally determined.

The only serious observers up till now are the internet bampots.

Until fitbaw authorities finally make credible “observations” and state otherwise, the current reasoning is:

“Chuck has two cats: one is deid and the other isnae very well”.

    ;o)

  18. Rumours on twitter regarding SFA breaking EUFA rules regarding rabnkers transfer of membership to Sevco being against the rules.

Anyone heard anything further? Looks like the SFA are making up the rules to suit Rankers as usual.

The Celtic input into the G O S Hospital story is wonderful.. Well done Celtic.. Very proud. A world wide club.

  20. Messi is just ‘doing a Petrov’. He is dying to come here but wants Barca to get as much cash out of the deal as possible due to their financial problems.

Celtic will stump up the required amount this summer. Wait and see. :-)

  21. Chunkles will stiff the printers….’tis the way of old for t’rankers.

Why anyone does bizness with them is beyond me after they bailed on EVERYONE and now trumpet their financial wellbeing and strut their invincibility.

Hopefully they’re about to be stiffed on their share (confetti) scam.

Chuck Green claiming that if people buy Sevco shares he might consider returning the Great Ormond Street presses…

  23. sixtaeseven: Armageddon ain't a bad place to be! on

Once the share windae slams shut at 13:00, will Chuck be able to give the figures HE wants to give out or will these figures be verifiable?

No idea how these share issues work, but surely there must be some tranparency about the whole thing.

I would imagine all investors want to know exactly where things stand, and that all will be reported in a professional manner in the business pages of the MSM.
