Reports of Roberts loan to Celtic denied

509

Celtic have NOT agreed a deal to take Patrick Roberts on loan next season.  Sources within the club expressed surprise at reports claiming as much. The club have been working with Manchester City and the player for some months, in an attempt to secure the services of the England youth international.

A loan deal is only one of the options being discussed.  But while Celtic look the most likely destination for Patrick, there is still work to be done.

Celtic, who will soon be able to offer guaranteed Champions League football to prospective players, are active in a number fronts.

    Fanatic …

you are married to a lawyer? AND she is on a diet?!

    scary!

if you need a couch to sleep on, just drop me a line…. solidarity, brother!

    :)

  2. Paddy thought?

Left-field thinking on my part but lets assume City are reasonably happy with a return loan deal providing they don’t draw us in the CL Group Stages?

Paddy helped us deny City 4 points last year – Pep can’t afford the risk this year (he has to deliver in the CL or EPL).

UEFA don’t allow barring loan-deal players (ref: see Mo Bangura).

Armstrong 2 year deal is good for Brendan’s longterm plans. Oliver & Eboue need a decent season to bed-in – Rogic needs some work to last regular 90 minute starts & McGregor still needs some improvement. Decisions still have to be made about; Ajer, Benyu & Henderson – some game-time or loan deals?

Having Armstrong (mature, capable of playing in several positions) tied-down for 12 months makes good medium to longterm sense.

This Squad is developing into one of the best I can remember since ’67!

  3. Sneaking suspicion we are about to announce a signing that will make a mockery of the BBC/Sky’s “inside information”.

    Give them nothing.

Time to chill and watch their sour coupons try to make head or tail of Brendan’s strategy.

I think this was suggested by someone in a previous post. Man City may be waiting until the CL draw is made, as they may not want to let us have Paddy if we end up in the same group.

A possible but unlikely scenario IMO.

  6. Bruce Forsyth has passed away.

A fixture on Saturday night TV when I was a wean…before Jim Davidson tarnished my family name…

    RIP Bruce

  7. Is any player worth hassle for a season’s loan.

With CL money for second successive year, we should be kicking on to signings on a more permanent basis.

  8. As Celtic have done in the past, City would have a not playing against us clause in any deal.

As I stated in previous post. Time to move on from loa deals.

Bad day when a club like ours, having Paddy Roberts our priority, surely we have other options,or is it all spin,

    =============

    Eh

  17. Paddy Roberts is the most entertaining player we’ve had for a long time, any deal that sees him in the hoops next season would do for me.

Him, moussa, griff and Sinclair in the same team wouldn’t be bad

  18. Timbhoy1,

Olivier looks to be a sensational signing, I know what you are saying. Paddy, IMO, wants to be @ CELTIC.

Brendan, Chris and JK obviously improve players.

MC obviously paid a lot for an English talent – and that bumps up the price straight away.

It says a lot that such an exciting Young English fitba player wants to play for C E L T I C.

  19. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    Quonno,

As I understand it, UEFA don’t allow loan players to be contractually barred from CL or Europa fixtures against their parent club

That said, I would agree that loan deals are less than ideal.

The number of players that Man City and Chelsea have out on loan is a scandal – just shouldn’t be allowed – but that is another issue.

  20. As I understand it, UEFA don’t allow loan players to be contractually barred from CL or Europa fixtures against their parent club

    I thought that too?
