Respecting the journey

810

This is not a journey!  Respect to the Celtic marketing guys who ran his headline on a story discussing the Champions League qualifying draw, which takes place on 22 July, the same day the players return to training after a short summer lay-off.  You can tell when people enjoy their work.

Last week’s article, ‘We’ve missed them and now we want them back’, referring to the absence of Champions League nights, also had a delicious twist.  That’s all we want back!

It’s been a good news day all round, with Peter Lawwell handing over a £10k cheque to Yorkhill Children’s Charity on your behalf.  The iconic Glasgow children’s hospital closes tomorrow with services moving to the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Delighted also that Celtic received a Platinum Award from the SFA for the standards of their facilities and governance.  We have been awarded by more prestigious bodies but it’s good to be endorsed anyway.

Mike Ashley…….. five counsel to enforce a contract!  It’s like going into a fist fight with a bazooka.  There will be carnage in the weeks to come………..

Strikes me that King isnae only a GSL when answering questions,he is also a bit remiss in handing out important information.

He neglected to mention in that rambling monologue/begging letter that Traynor cobbled together that there was a costly court case or two taking place the following day.

Now we discover that he forgot to mention in passing that he was giving the EGM a body-swerve.

I don’t think these are because he needs someone to organise his diary, tbh.

I wonder what else he’s forgotten to mention?

Time for a CQN list,I’ll start with the easy one.

He’s a lying bar steward wi a rotten memory for previous comments.

    Oh,and

    He’s skint really.

  6. Have no problem with O’degaard on loan. As someone alluded to, it’s not always just about the player, but establishing relations between clubs.

RD already has a solid respectful relationship with Man City, one of the wealthiest most powerful clubs on earth. We got Denayer and sent him back fitter, faster, 2 medals up and made him a full Belgian international. We got Guidetti who despite his flaws is a top player, and now we have Boyata in a reassuringly quick, painless deal. (going to be a revelation btw).

Man City like the cut of Celtic’s jib in the way we deal with players and improve them.

Here’s hoping Real Madrid will see the same positive devlopment of the young Norwegian boy by Ronny and a similar relationship between the clubs can be fostered.

Nationwide roll-out for scheme to tackle sectarianism among football fans

    Stephen Naysmith

    Social affairs correspondent

    Friday 12 June 2015

A service which tackles sectarianism by confronting football fans about their attitudes and behaviours is to be extended across the country after backing from the Scottish Government.

Community safety charity Sacro has been awarded £67,000 to deliver its anti-sectarianism service on a national basis.

The scheme diverts people charged under the controversial law about offensive behaviour at football matches from prosecution and currently operates in North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Falkirk and Stirling.

Sacro’s service manager Sandra Lindsay said: “Thanks to this additional funding, Sacro will be able to develop its Diversion from Prosecution Service as a national service for people who are charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communication (Scotland) Act 2012.

“Sectarianism has no place in modern day Scotland. By engaging directly with people, we help them to identify their behaviours and understand these behaviours and attitudes are not acceptable. Sacro’s structured programme encourages positive behaviour change to bring about a reduction in offending.”

Already funded by the Scottish Government to tackle intra-Christian sectarian offending, the programme is voluntary but participants facing criminal charges will still go to court if they fail to pass the programme.

The service can also be used as part of a sentencing disposal within a Children’s Hearing or Sheriff Court and is suitable for any individual from the age of 12 years who has been charged with committing a sectarianism offence.

The course is based around modules which can be completed in groups or on a one-to-one basis. The structured programme is based on behavioural and attitudinal change, using cognitive behavioural intervention techniques. The sessions support the individual to understand why they behave in a specific way and take ownership of their attitude and behaviours to ensure positive changes.

A pilot scheme across the central belt demonstrated improved attitudes and behaviour among participants, none of whom committed further sectarian offences, or indeed offended at all subsequently.

Figures for 2013-14 show that of the 203 people charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act, over 70 per cent were aged between 12 and 24.

  9. I wonder has Ryan Gauld had enough of playing for Sporting’s B team yet. He scored 2 goals for the first team in a cup game and didn’t seem to play again for them. Surely his buddies Armstrong and GMS will be telling him good things about Celtic.

I’m guessing if he hasn’t made the first team by Christmas we could get him.

    Good Morning.

Something bothered me on this sunny June morning.

Such as why it takes the death of a thoroughly good guy for the world to come out and say he was a thoroughly good guy?

Charles Kennedy’s death is a tragedy in oh so many ways not least because he clearly struggled with his addiction and ends up dying in the most simple way.

Alcohol addiction thins the blood so it doesn’t clot. You fall, bang your head, start to bleed, maybe struggle to your bed and then just quietly bleed to death because the bleeding doesn’t stop.

A huge number of people die in this way. I met Charlie Kennedy once at some kind of function. We chatted at the bar with me knowing who he was and him not having a clue who I was. 5 minutes later we were done – I wonder how many times that happened to him?

The last time someone I knew really well died in exactly the same circumstances as Charles was all of maybe a year ago!

Before that – it might have been another year — and before that — well maybe six months.

Yet I can’t help believe that if more people went about their daily business and said all the nice things and pointed out all the good things that some folk do then they – those who struggle with a drink addiction — just might have their confidence boosted, see their own value and so be able to beat their battle with the bottle.

There was a wee local mass for Charlie Kennedy this morning. Full of music ( his family were very mudical ) and full of stories from his childhood. He went out the door to Soul of my Saviour apparently – just a local fella from the Highlands who did his bit down Westminster way but always remembered being “local”. and for being “local”,

Maybe I am just an optimistic fool wishing on a rainbow but surely to Jesus there is a lesson to learn as a result of Charles Kennedy’s untimely demise. Maybe just a wee lesson, a personal lesson?

Speaking of lessons, in the footballing world here is one of the best:

    “Happiness belongs to the self-sufficient.”

Here is an article on the little piece of footballing, cultural and business magic that is Athletic Bilbao.

I have some reservations about only playing players from a specific region as it might seem elitist or bigoted or biased.

But basically they practice a mantra of welcoming everyone and anyone who is local – all the kids around the corner irrespective of colour, race, religeon, politics or whatever and with no great big sugar daddy bank rolling them or mad mental transfer schemes.

    Maybe it isn’t perfect.

    Maybe it wouldn’t work elsewhere.

But Maybe there is just something to learn – even just a wee lesson, maybe a “look local” lesson at every level and have a wee bit regard for your neighbour whoever and whatever they may be ?

God rest Charlie Kennedy and all who suffer like him – especially the locals who live round the corner from all of us.

Anyway, I am off out into the sun — and yes — I am wishing on a rainbow!

    Hope you are too.

Might struggle to buy Ryan Gauld.

His buyout clause is €60m. Someone rates him, even if some on here don’t.

I think he’s a marvellously gifted player, and I hope he is properly coached so that he fulfills his potential.

  19. Guys – a message from Valencia Bhoy on the Huddleboard –

    Send Ernesto a Get-Well-Soon card

As I posted a few days ago Ernesto Boixader of Celticsubmari CSC is going through a bad time with his health and I have been thinking of some way to cheer him up and let him know that he will never walk alone.

This man has been tireless in his work raising hundreds of thousands of pounds and euros over more than a decade for people in unfortunate circumstances, both in Scotland and in Spain.

Now he finds himself facing his own challenges and I think it would be great if we as a support showed him our solidarity with him.

He has a large loving family around him so all practical things will be taken care of. Therefore I’d like to suggest a simple display of brotherly and sisterly support by sending him as many get well soon cards as we can from his other family.

I know how much this would mean to him and am convinced that getting these cards really would have a positive effect on his health.

So,anyone who is willing to do this simple but powerful act of solidarity can send a card to the following address:

    Ernesto Boixader

    Penya Celtic Submari

    Avenguda La Murà 12

Few people had anything bad to say about Charles Kennedy even when he was alive.

Except when it suited their ambitions at a time that he was in a bad place, with little defence much less attack in him.

On that subject,I must congratulate the SNP on removing from their membership the evil b…..d who mercilessly trolled Kennedy about his demons.

Pity it took a tragedy-which is where you came in-but it’s a start worthy of recognition.

I reckon Gauld will end up a better player then GMS!! GMS is a very good SPFL player but probably lacking at highest level.Still though he’s a big improvement on Wakaso, Tonev, Boerrigter etc. Until we get better he’ll do.
