Roberts craft, Rod the entertainer, January anxiety

231

Albion Rovers did as much as could be asked of them yesterday. They defended solidly, conceding only to an impossible to defend strike from Player of the Year-designate Scott Sinclair, until the final 13 minutes of the game.

A lazy observation would conclude that it was tiredness which caused the part-timers to lose two late goals, but that wasn’t the case. Patrick Roberts ability to draw opponents close, before exploiting the space behind them changed a 0-1 score into a 0-3 result. Without Roberts, we would have continued to pass in an arc around the Rovers defensive pyramid.

A home draw in the next round was as welcome as it was unexpected – what happens, I suppose, when a good Celtic man gets to draw the balls. Rod Stewart proved he is the complete entertainer as he brought colour to what is too often a soulless procedure. When presenting to the public, some forget football THEY ARE EMPLOYED in an entertainment industry.

Having already spent a reasonable amount of money this month, the normal January anxiety is contained to the permanently anxious, but, as you know, transfer windows are all about the last few days. We’re still working. Usual caveats apply.

  1. Does anyone know what happens to a bet if a horse dies during a race?

Is the bet null and void?

    Was it called Sevco?

If so, you get nothing back. You lose your money.

The horse however will reappear in the same colours running in plating class races.

  3. Ray Winstone's Big Disembodied Heid on

If a horse has come under starter’s orders then the bet stands no matter what happens to it thereafter.

Sometimes a horse has to be put down as a result of serious injury which occurred during a race, or more rarely actually dies while running.

The bookie is under no obligation to refund bets under such circumstances.

  4. Thought it was “job well done” yesterday. Not the greatest performance (no surprise after a lengthy break since the last match), but there was no anxiety, and we saw a goal which will live long in the memory. Onwards!

Have to agree with JFH regarding Boyata, yesterday was no match on which to judge him,it was almost a training game for our defence.Let’s see how he performs against tougher opponents. And hope he makes the grade. If it’s possible to get a player out of him then Brendan’s the mhan to do it.

  7. Lazy observation? Most opposing players tire towards the end, especially part timers. It’s reality and would have been part of our game plan.

Like the way Roberts is now going down the outside a bit more often. Adds some unpredictability to his game.

  9. ONEMALLOY. Sad to hear of the passing of your brother. I will remember him in prayers and at Mass tomorrow.

HT at the risk of being thought of as one of “the dafties” , happy birthday and many happy returns of this day. Do not spend too much cash on the celebrations today because you will need it for the wedding. Best wishes to your better half also.

  10. For BRTH from earlier,—forgetting you ordered something is way down the list. Wait until you have filled a hot-water bottle and placed it carefully in the fridge.

It will keep the same history as the dead horse. If you check it’s track record in the Racing Post that will make it official.

  14. based on yesterday’s performance I reckon Boyata is worth 9 million of those millions wee Barrie is worth.

Good performance against the old parked bus.

WAF goal from Sinky though. It went up but how it came doon defies apples n trees. I hear Newton is reworking his law of gravity as every particle obviously does not effect every other particle in the Universe quite the way he used to believe.

Wee Paddy’s two setups for Moussa’s and Stewart’s goals was sublime.

  18. Afternoon all

    Shameless repost ..

Cold day in Lanarkshire yesterday but job done! :)

So i’m a long time lurker and very occasional poster so not everyone will be familiar with my user name!

I run a 2006 football club and we have 3 teams. We are holding our annual Awards and Race Night in the Almondvale Suite at Livingston Stadium on Saturday 28th January

As part of the night we are holding an auction and there may be a couple of items that posters on here might be interested in!

We have a signed named and numbered (signature on the 1) Moussa Dembélé away shirt and a framed limited edition photo signed by Scott Sinclair. Photo is of Scott celebrating in front of the fans at Tynecastle after scoring on his debut. Print is number 22 of 25

We also have a signed Hearts Away strip and Hibs Football (First team squads on both)

All funds raised from the auction and Race Night are to cover the costs of players going to a Tournament over Easter Holidays.

If anyone is interested in making a silent bid (even the Edinburgh teams stuff) then P67 has my email address. I’m happy to provide photo’s of the items as well and any other details.

    Thanks :)

if your bet stipulated that you thought the horse would die during the race you will be quids in. But that might be after an investigation into whether you killed it!

  20. Boyata? no thanks. hopefully he will be gone next week. he ball watches and never picks up loose balls in box. a disaster. He is too old to improve his basic flaws. get o’Connell back next season. he could improve and he can play football. if short this season play McCart .

  24. Wee Paddy proved yesterday what I have been saying. You just cannot beat a bit of genius. The first goal was exactly that from Scott.Out of nothing. The second and third goals were all Paddy.3 men around him twice, left them for dead and set up the goals. If Calum had been a bit more sure of his finish, wee Paddys sublime slip pass could have saw us into the EL.His set up for Griff in the earlier round got us through there also. You need someone capable of that extra skill, especially in Europe.

I think BR is right to want to keep Boyatta. He has had a torrid time, but never really had a chance to settle into a steady back 4.Worth letting BR Try and work his magic on him.

What a player KT is.Looked like he had never been away.Really excited by this team.
