Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

    Gamboa out for months

    ____

They probably do need to sign a LB then.

I guess my worry is that Tierney could end up going as well. I really hope not, to me he hasn’t more worth because he’s not a striker, but could become more of a world class left back than Dembele will be a world class striker.

Not convinced about Gamboa at right back, and Lustig isn’t getting any younger so I’d say getting the scouts working on a long term right back is a task as well.

    ____

    1. Tierney will be here for the next two or three seasons.

    2. I really rate Ralston and would like to see him develop to be the long term RB.

But in light of the news surrounding Gamboa, I’d say let’s go sign a LB.

The reason Political Statements at football grounds is `bad` is because UEFA says so.

    Always liked him

Not sure he was ever the same player after that bad injury he picked up against Aberdeen I think towards the end of his first season but a very capable player who always gave everything .and played with a smile.

    Now the bad news.

Friend of mine occasionally gets a few snippets from the Karl Burke yard ( some good, some not so)

    Laurens 6.10

Beatbox Rhythm 7.15 both at Doncaster

First one has been backed ( 10s into 7s) i have backed it each way and did an each way double.

Fingers crossed. However both are 1st time out 2 year olds ( obviously showing well at home on the gallops but no guarantee they will produce that in their first race)

I once beat 4 players and scored with a chip from the edge of the box.Why did I not get a professional contract.Maybe it was because it was a jumpers for goalposts kickabout !!!!!

    ____

That number won’t happen. So far, there is only one club in England interested in signing Celtic players and they don’t pay over the odds.

Teams like Manchester United or Liverpool don’t sign players from clubs like Celtic.

We don’t sell players with 3 or 4 years left on their deal.

  11. On a completely different note.

Notice there is not one Celtic player in the 23 squad for the Euros Scottish Ladies footie team.

I understand what he is saying i just don’t know if that mechanism exists. From what a gather JJ is saying the SPFL will reject any review at their next meeting. Then Celtic will appeal this (can that be done?) to the Professional Game Board (is this correct and are they the appellant body?).

  13. !!Bada Bing!! on

Timaloy- length of contract is nothing, Robertson to Liverpool £10m, KT is a better player. Are you saying if Man U offer£15-20mil, Celtic won’t sell?

  14. If you could raise your apologetic, deferential heads up for just a moment or two…

For the past two months – and two more to come, no doubt – we’ve watched a supremacist cult parade banners on the streets of Scotland that celebrate a genocidal sectarian movement from the 17th Century.

The GB unfurl a couple of cheeky banners within the confines of Celtic Park – and let’s be definitive here in the classic deflective manner of the society in which we live; featuring our manager and a member of the GB; the classic GB skull, in a military outfit, designed to antagonize the 1500 sub-human screeching Hun monkeys who have splattered the Celtic Park airwaves with their bigoted filth since they were allowed, bewildered and awestruck presumably, into our proper modern football stadium.

Insinuation – the GB banners were naughty, with paramilitary overtones, sinister, reflecting the grim, violent Kulchur the 1500 hail from and wallow in. And maintain. With fervour.

    Well boo-f#####’-hoo.

The banners do not contravene UEFA guidelines. They were non-political. Any argument to the contrary can only be afforded by vast amounts of subjective opinion and that is not good enough to impose sanctions. Celtic, could – and should – oppose any moves by the Huns in the SMSM or Hun fan bodies to do so. Make a nonsense of their petty claims at injustices.

Over on the Hun Media forums the banners have them leaping around the monkey-houses in a screeching frenzy, rattling their cages, throwing keech everywhere they can.

On the Celtic forums, we get the wincing apologists folding under pressure and adding to the Hun ‘outrage’.

Reel yerselves in. Take a breath, repeat the mantra; ‘No harm done or intended; cheeky lads and a bit of comeback at the Linfield Huns’.

A couple of ambiguous wee banners and there’s fainting at the back.

The GB are the lifeblood of Celtic; bhoys being bhoys with feeling – that passion many of us used to know before middle age and mundanity subdued. They take no shit, and they give back plenty. Exactly what this Hun-facing midden of a country needs.

If you didn’t let slip a wry smile when you saw the GB handiwork then you probably never stood on a terrace with thousands of Orcs screaming blue murder at you with a desire to wade in your, and your families’, blood.

Lucky you. Enjoy yer wee psychodrama.

What is your feelings/ thoughts on PL leaving the SPFL while as yet they have not issued a statement following the SC judgement.

I dont think too deeply about these things or out of the box as Harry Brady seems to be doing, as what Celtic plc do is exactly what is going on , in my opinion nothing, they will leave LNS and the SPFL decisions as is without comment to shareholders and supporters who have an interest in these things.

However, I can think of Kenny Dalglish, Henrik Larsson, Lou Macari, Brian McClair, Liam Miller and Paddy Crearand,

    ___

Larsson and Liam Miller don’t fit the profile. Nobody ever stumped up big money to sign them. They were picked up as low-cost options on bosman deals. I don’t doubt that Tierney would have all the top English clubs after him if they could get him for nothing.

The rest of the players you mentioned are from a different era. Money has changed the standing of the Scottish and English football immeasurably

The question is, will a club like that stump up crazy money for somebody who has only played in the SPFL? They won’t.

The only club who has been prepared to deal with Celtic is Southampton. A club who are prudent and wait until a player is in the last couple of years of their deal before agreeing to a reasonable deal.

    WHY I DID IT!

    (Celtic View 1972)

Jock Stein explains that foray into the crowd at the Stirling game

‘The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football’

I don’t like criticising Celtic fans. But I have to take odds with at least a section of them. What I did on Saturday was something I’ve felt like doing for quite a while.

It’s my sincere wish that it will have a lasting effect, as I’m sure that the vast majority of our fans do. Celtic supporters have enjoyed a lot of good times during the past few years and all of it was due to hard work – by the players, the backroom boys and the directors.

The fans too have played a major role and we don’t want to see it all ruined now by the bad element who have recently emerged. Nor do we want to see the fans of long standing who followed us through the lean years discouraged from watching us play.

This bad element – or the wreckers as the View called them last week – are singing and chanting about things which have nothing to do with football.

Surely there are enough Celtic songs without introducing religion or politics or anything else.
