Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

Anybody posted that Jonny Hayes can play left back yet?

    —————————————-

He famously played the entire 2016 Scottish League Cup Final at full back…despite Aberdeen already having a full back in that position already…

    :)

Interesting to hear how the SMSM are reporting the problems the Aberdeen fans are having in Bosnia, by all accounts they have been attacked for no good reason by Siroki fans and a few of them have been hospitalised. Now if it had been us it would have been reported entirely differently, along the lines of drunken Celtic fans involved in street fighting away from home again. Then our recent problems with Uefa would have been trotted out again.

Just now though they need to box clever and realise the SMSM will use them to attack the club at every turn.

The SMSM and their partners have been creating this agenda for quite some time now.

It’s amazing how there are ‘no mechanisms’ when it suits them, but they found plenty to help CG with his basket of assets back in 2012. (Associate membership, anyone?)

The SFA was the Appellate Body for the SPL commission back in 2013, so it would be only right that any appeal against a decision not to review same by the SPFL should be made to them too, I’d have thought.

For CCB on reading your post at 1.35pm…

“Acording to Topping, the SPFL, where 42 members ostensibly decide the future of the

    Scotsman 15th July 2017

and Re your apt point about a ‘sudden sickness’………………..

Having returned to Ireland after a trip to Glasgow I spent some time examining the psyche of the typical Sevco supporter.

    The following are my observations:)

Easily provoked, prone to aggressive reactions. Violent or threatening of violence often physical. Denial of the truth, compulsion to lie even in the face of irrefutable evidence. A lack of serenity or peace, no patience or kindness.

Boasting of a concocted history of a culture and a now liquidated football club.

    Ingrained selfishness or dishonesty.

Offended all too easily, resentful and often characterised by negative, disobedient, or defiant behaviour.

A reliance upon secret type societies and a dependence on a loyalty to a Crown that ultimately ‘struck down’ their club via HMRC.

I believe this condition is a sickness, what’s called a’ Non-Communicable Disease’. With all it’s deceptions and negativity a very painful way of life and that’s why those living with this disease are so aggressive, fearful and difficult to be around.

Yep, an acute case of ‘Hunnism’ is right up there with the other NCDs; “chronic diseases which can last for long periods of time and progress painfully and slowly.”

(Risk factors such as a person’s background, lifestyle and environment increase the likelihood of certain NCDs. NCDs accounted for 68% of all deaths in 2008, some 38 million souls. (World Heath Organisation).

So a measure of sympathy is required when in direct contact with a sufferer of ‘Hunnism’. A chronic condition as confirmed by the World Heath Organisation :) …

If it’s true Izzy and you’re off, then thank you for all your endeavours, one thing that can be said about you, You never shirked, you always gave everything for the Cause, God Bless You as well.

Very excited about the squad Brendan is building, however with Gamboa & Boyata out injured & assuming Izzy goes we do look a bit light at the back.

I am confident Brendan has a plan for there as well, I expect a defensive signing before Rosenborg game.

  11. Beatbhoy

Your head will explode if you try to apply reasoning to what they do, the game is as bent as an arabs dagger, therefore it will be made up to suit at the time required, where there’s a will there’s a way, for Sevco anyway.

  12. Reading all the arguments about the wisdom or not of the banners, it appears to me that some have forgotten that it will be UEFA who will decide if action will be taken. Now the SMSM have reported matters to continue to live by their anti-Celtic leanings. One wonders if on receiving his daily copy of the SMSM, Dallas has hurried along the corridors of power at UEFA to ensure that those who sit in judgement on these matters will have a clear knowledge of the situation. Surely not?

It was a European game. It was before ‘The Troubles’ started. So all jolly craicster stuff, a bit like Brother Walfrid inviting TD Sullivan to sing God Save Ireland at the opening of the new stadium. Just a lovely Irish song. Nothing to do with celebrating the lives of Irish Terrorists who had been hanged for the murder of an English policeman. Because of course Celtic don’t do politics, never have done. It’s an entirely alien notion to the Club.

Timaloy- length of contract is nothing, Robertson to Liverpool £10m, KT is a better player. Are you saying if Man U offer£15-20mil, Celtic won’t sell?

    _____

The length of contract means a hell of a lot.

Celtic have only sold key players when they have had to: VVD 2 years left, Wanyama 2 years left, Hooper 1 year left etc.

Andy Robertson only had 2 years left on his deal BTW.

True, if Manchester United came in and tried to sign Tierney there would be a number that would get Celtic to let him go but that number is at least 30.

Manchester United won’t pay that kind of a money for a fullback who’s only played in Scotland. They don’t trust the standard of our league.

Before he earned a move to Manchester United he’d have to spend at least a season in the EPL with a club like Everton or Southampton.

VVD has all the top clubs after him after a year in the EPL. Do you really think he’s improved that much over a year?

Nah they just needed to see him do it in the EPL before they’d consider him.

It’s nothing against Tierney. It’s the league.

To think players won’t be sold to top teams is niave, top clubs know all about KT and MD.Brendan said the days of us getting mugged for players are over, you are buying the player, not the league he is in.Dembele had 1 season in Championship,1 season here, both him and KT played well in CL, that’s the barometer.HH

Oh, I know. Just trying, having read JohnJames, to apply reason to what PL might be up to!

Reasoning went out the window in Scottish football when the meanings of ‘incorporation’ and ‘liquidation’ were changed to mean ‘separation’ and ‘continuation’.

  19. BHOYJOEBELFAST…

The answer I am fairly sure will be Pat McMahon who signed after the Scottish Junior Cup Final in 1967. I am afraid I am old enough to remember him and didn’t use google :)

I think he would have made his debut prior to that Penarol game though.

Today’s useless bit of information is that when we played Rosenborg in the 1972/1973 European Cup we played our home game at Hampden due to work being carried out on the stand at Celtic Park. We won 2-1.

Longer Term, I have no doubt at all that Dembele will be off and there is absolutely nothing Celtic can do about it.

As long as Sky bankrolls the crazy world of the Premiership any of our imports who impress will be targeted.

They will have no loyalty to Celtic nor can we expect them to have. They are young men who want to do as well as they possibly can, we can offer them medals & love, the EPL can offer them millions.

Sadly no contest, now KT is a little bit different, if we offer him top bucks & make him future Captain of the Club we just might have found the new Paul McStay.
