  1. The Exiled Tim,

Very sorry to hear of the passing of your friend, and of the troubles facing the family of the wee girl.

Thoughts and prayers for all affected.

  3. I know I am in the minority, but personally I thought we breezed through tonight’s match and the tie in general.

  4. A packed Aviva stadium to watch a meaningless game between two English giants. Not even the mega popular Man United or Liverpool participating

Are Celtic still a big draw in Dublin or is it all about English footie ?

Are we marketing ourselves properly or taking support for granted ?

  5. Blog was frozen last night when I wanted to post. Just wanted to say I think Lewis Morgan should be fast-tracked as Sinclair’s successor.

BBC Scotland covers all sports on its 7:30 apart from………guess who. Then back to main BBC and they cover it, shocking.

  7. In ither news………………..

    Shortie horribly hurtin’……………….

Any Celtic success is enough reason to bury good news.

    Shameful.

  8. Most folk seem to recognise that was a poor team we played against last night. When they got into threatening positions they often gave the ball away.

Notwithstanding, our defence was up to most anything they set us. A couple of good saves from Gordon were all they managed. Of course, we had very little in an attacking sense but I thought that was the plan. Nthcam and Brown were just in front of the back line. The full backs in tight which allowed them easy access to their wide men.

I thought that at any stage we could have reverted to our more natural formation and posed a threat to them. Almost like we were trying something that could be useful later.

The loss of Dembele is a blow in that I would like to see how we fared with two up front. Sinclairs lack of form and confidence is a major worry. Morgan would have been ideal to replace him but he too is recovering.

Now here’s the problem for Brendan. Who comes straight back into the team and who drops out for Lustig, Boyata, Simunovic, Rogic, Demebele, Griff…

Is that, indeed, what MOST folk think?

Not for the first time, I find myself not sharing the opinion of `most folk`.

  12. I watched the game last night with a non-Celtic supporting football fan. While I was panicking he was saying – what’s the matter with you? Celtic are in control! and this is easy for you. etc

    It was an interesting perspective.

I would definitely revert to Lustig and Boyata for the AEK Athens game. I think Lustig, at least, will get some game time against Livingston. The manager might think it’s too quick to put Boyata right in again, as he’s only returned this week. However, given how he rates Boyata and the fact that he should still be fit enough, I wouldn’t be surprised if he played next week. Both are better than Gamboa and Hendry and are the two defenders more likely to score at the other end.

It was a straw poll I conducted in my head based on the comments during and after the game – conjoined with my own reasoning that they simply gave the ball back to us frequently.

Sure they had a few good individual players (their cap’n for instance), but overall I thought they were poor team.

  19. CFC in Ireland — we are a big noise in 10 counties.

The rest have us as a bunch of low rent plebs / SF rent-a-mob.

We need to start beating EPL teams before the middle class / middle income of East Ireland start to take us seriously. Whether or not we should care what a bunch of “sensible”, US loving, Forgers Gazette reading tax evaders thinks of us is another thing but at the moment the glory hunters are EPL focused.

Bit of a shame really but to the upwardly mobile Audi drivers of the north of Dublin we are the uncle in the attic they want to forget about.

  20. Home leg Tuesday, away leg Wednesday ?

Nothing UEFA do with regard to disadvantaging any team coming through the qualifiers would surprise me any more. ?

  21. When they were picking up 0 0 draws away from home under the football mastermind that was the cardigan they were lauded for the professional performances that they delivered. That was exactly what Celtic delivered last night a sensible controlled performance. Not that they will get any plaudits for it. I would like to see the average age of our team last in comparison to the one they generally had as they went through Europe like a wrecking ball. Celtic are still developing and evolving and I all honesty I think we will generally always be developing and evolving. Very few teams have the luxury of being the finished article

I bet I,m the only one on here that sat comfortably through last nights game wrongly assuming that because of the away goals rule Rosenberg had to score 3 goals without reply to beat us.

It was a very senior moment that may have been caused by the heat and or vino blanco but it allowed me to watch the dodgy ,lagging link,in a much more relaxed state. It was probably a once in a lifetime experience but for all the worriers on here it’s one I highly recommend.

Thanks for posting the live link and, while we certainly weren’t swashbuckling, the experience will have done our young players a power of good!

  24. CB @ 10.16

The first half performance was neither sensible or controlled.

The complaints come from the poor level of performance that has been seen all too often.

The MF simply weren’t there in the first half — second to everything and playing with a desire and intensity that shamed both themselves and the club.

Last week some said they were 60 minute world beaters.

This week we started out like an U18 team that was out it’s depth.

They moved up a couple of gears.

We tried to hide behind SB.
