Salmond, MacAskill, Sturgeon police state quest crushed

911

It should be a matter of great personal pride to the football fans, manty of them Celtic fans, who campaigned against the Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Bill from the outset, and then against the Act, faced off against the Scottish Government at Holyrood yesterday and won.

Their satisfaction will be shared by James Kelly MSP, who raised the Bill in Parliament, which yesterday brought down the Act.  Well done to him and his colleagues.

This nonsense was never about ending sectarianism, neither the SNP Government, nor the police, have moved an inch towards this goal since Alex Salmond first raised the subject.

Sectarianism in football grounds was given life in 2011 by then Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who sat through 90 minutes of The Billy Boys at Hampden, before congratulating fans on their performance.  The Billy Boys returned to stadiums that day and since then, we have lived through an SNP endorsed open season.

The Act was a familiar mix of populist rhetoric and right wing police action so common with those who put identity politics before people.

After their defeat, the Government acknowledged they would recognise will of Parliament, despite ignoring the same will when an earlier vote on the Act was passed.  Nicola Sturgeon did everything in her power to prevent this defeat.

Salmond has moved on to his spiritual home-broadcaster, where proto-right wing nationalists get to claim credentials of the left without challenge.  Today we have a government and police force which have been made accountable to the law and the democratic will.  The need for vigilance against extreme right wing policies continues.

Well done again to all those who campaigned so successfully.

Time to walk the dogs, glorious but baltic in Corcaigh.

  2. I think Brendan will bring Lustig back in today. Personally I wouldn’t but that’s just me. Don’t think it’s a game for Calvin Miller, Sinclair or Compper. Expecting an old fashioned, blood and thunder Scottish match in difficult conditions. Not for the faint hearted, out of form or untested.

A friend of mine was in St Petersburg for the Zenit game.

The morning after the game he and his son went on a guided tour of the city , it was -15C. It started snowing , halfway through the tour. The guide said that was a sign that the temperature was rising.

Been a while, hope you are all well.

I’m here just to post a link to a just giving page for a young girl in Glasgow who has neuroblastoma. I remember a few years back when there was the drive campaign for wee Oscar knox that the illness itself had become a thing that people in here had strove to combat in any way they could. It always stood out to me the depth of feeling in here at the time and his case was one that transcended the game with many bears getting active as well.

Delaney’s , the One Love flag the Green Brigade used to fly has not been on show this season. It always fitted in well with the other flags , flown by them.

I watched some of the St Patrick’s day march in Perth , Australia. It was good to see the local CSC in it with the flag representing native Australians beside the tricolour . A lovely sight.

Williefernie, tremendous , it was a great sight .

Also , Willie Fernie was one of my dad’s favourite players .

When Willie was the Kilmarnock boss, his side were one of the most attack minded teams I have ever seen. Unfortunately, they could not defend as well as they atacked.

Danny McGrain and Kenny Dalglish have paid tribute , in the past, to Willie’s coaching skills. He was a coach with the reserves after both joinedus.

    Delaney’s at 11.40, wo wo yeah .

Enjoy the sounds and the game
