Salmond, MacAskill, Sturgeon police state quest crushed

911

It should be a matter of great personal pride to the football fans, manty of them Celtic fans, who campaigned against the Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Bill from the outset, and then against the Act, faced off against the Scottish Government at Holyrood yesterday and won.

Their satisfaction will be shared by James Kelly MSP, who raised the Bill in Parliament, which yesterday brought down the Act.  Well done to him and his colleagues.

This nonsense was never about ending sectarianism, neither the SNP Government, nor the police, have moved an inch towards this goal since Alex Salmond first raised the subject.

Sectarianism in football grounds was given life in 2011 by then Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who sat through 90 minutes of The Billy Boys at Hampden, before congratulating fans on their performance.  The Billy Boys returned to stadiums that day and since then, we have lived through an SNP endorsed open season.

The Act was a familiar mix of populist rhetoric and right wing police action so common with those who put identity politics before people.

After their defeat, the Government acknowledged they would recognise will of Parliament, despite ignoring the same will when an earlier vote on the Act was passed.  Nicola Sturgeon did everything in her power to prevent this defeat.

Salmond has moved on to his spiritual home-broadcaster, where proto-right wing nationalists get to claim credentials of the left without challenge.  Today we have a government and police force which have been made accountable to the law and the democratic will.  The need for vigilance against extreme right wing policies continues.

Well done again to all those who campaigned so successfully.

I think Murts meant to say he wanted to turn The Pit of Misery into a Fort, as in The Fort Shopping Centre.

    Is Petrie another buried body?

    ==%=======

Well according to JJ, and it is a matter of record, Petrie did chair the Licensing Commitee that approved Rangers application for a UEFA licence in 2011 a matter under investigation by the SFA Compliance Officer….

Yes – the Murty / 100 years headline – and the content of the article – is an absolute disgrace. It shames this blog – whoever wrote it is clearly bought into the survival myth.

Shocked it made it on to CQN – very much a low point.

However – nobody’s hurt, so I’m away back to listen to some cheery Blackberry Smoke tunes to recover :-)))

Googled Sunday Mail and there is a story there. Looks like Petrie tried to block it but was unsuccessful. Small extract from SM article says:

SFA vice president Petrie stood to be the biggest
beneficiary of that scenario, having lost his power base alongside president Alan McRae with his failed bid to keep Regan in a job and their disastrous management of the recruitment process to replace Gordon Strachan.

You can see perhaps why Petrie wanted to keep Regan in a job if dots are joined.

Pity SM/DR don’t dig deeper and pull at a thread that would unravel the LNS jersey.

    – Catholics in Scotland are the biggest target of hate crime

    John Boothman

    March 18 2018, 12:01am, The Sunday Times

Roman Catholics need more protection to combat a rise in hate crime in Scotland, says Scottish Labour’s inequality spokeswoman, after figures showed they are targeted more than all other religious groups combined.

MSP Elaine Smith called for anti-Catholicism to be given the same prominence as that given to Islamophobia and anti-semitism, echoing concerns with the Catholic Church.

The most recent government report on religiously aggravated offending in Scotland showed that 57% of all reported offences were directed at Catholics, and that there had been a 14% rise in offences. Catholics represent 16% of the population north of the border.

The Catholic Church believes the adoption of a one-size-fits-all approach to religious hate crime is not working, and that individual policies must be devised to target hate crimes against specific religions.

Smith backed that approach, saying: “The first thing the government should do is look in more detail at what are the underlying causes and attitudes behind anti-Catholicism in Scotland. The government needs to go out to the Catholic population and listen to their concerns.

“Issues relating to Islamophobia and anti-semitism are given prominence, and rightly so, but the issue of anti-Catholicism needs a prominence it does not have.”

Catholic Church leaders believe that anti-Catholicism is a product of the Reformation parliament of 1560 and its condemnation of Catholic doctrine and worship.

Peter Kearney, director of the Scottish Catholic Media Office, said: “No other religion or belief has ever been so proscribed in Scotland, and the legacy of this continues to the present day.

“The church wants the Scottish government to issue a retrospective apology in order to build, repair and renew bonds between communities harmed by historical wrongdoing.”

In November it was reported that the volume of anti-Catholic graffiti daubed around Glasgow had more than doubled in the past year. A total of 188 complaints of sectarian graffiti targeting Catholics were logged.

  10. Petrie’s efforts to be next President are all that he’s interested in, ably supported by ex Oldco ST holder Dempster, remember Hibs said move on ,re investigation into the Huns.

‘while your looking hon, see if you can find a title race?’ her response was to burst out crying

‘those glasses cost me over £100 and i cant drive without them’. now the merits of her driving with or without specs, is open to conjecture so i diverted and added ‘ nic, all those good people paid way way over £100 for a season ticket at ibrokes do you hear them crying when the title race is lost?’ she then started laughing

this morning nicola phoned me ‘hi dad, found my glasses’

‘good says I and glad i cheered you up’…’ yes dad you certainly did… season ticket, ibrokes and good people, in the one sentence. when do you want me over with the care home brochures?’ I HUNG UP!!!!!
