Samaras astonishing journey

557

Georgios Samaras journey over the last twelve months has been astonishing.  The player was subject to treatment by those who enjoying booing at the football and suffered the indignity of being subject to an exchange at last year’s AGM which must have made it difficult to rebuild confidence and form.

Now he is the most effective man in the team.  He was involved in six out of Celtic’s eight Champions League qualifier goals.  He has found his position, wide on the left, where he scores and creates more goals than he ever did as part of a forward two.  The space on the wing allows those long legs to stretch and get behind defenders.

I’m not paying too much attention to the scare stories which emerged from Latvia last night following his elbow injury, we will need to wait on the results of a scan to know the extent of the damage, but there is modest alarm ahead of our opening Champions League group game against Benfica in 11 days.

  1. Craig Levein is a tactical fud!!!!

We’re playing at home and he plays 4-5-1. Rarely created chances for the first 70 minutes.

Ball over the top into space all the time. Unfortunately the space was too much for miller to make up. Miller and Naismith completely unable to read a ball in the air. Created a chance when Caldwell played the ball through the middle along the ground. Naismith and Hutton both lucky to stay on the park, wonder where they learned that part of their game? Serbia were a better team than I thought, their control and passing was much better than Scotland’s, if they were able to cross a ball better then they would have won today.

After all the boasts that there was better wingers and forwards than Kris Commons, why didn’t he play them? It’s his job to pick the in form players, not his favourites or 3rd division huns. I know none of them were picked but that’s only because of the rediculous Ian black situation which Levein caused by himself. Fud!!!!

  2. The SFA have a dilemma ahead of them if Levein walks or gets punted, there are no ex hun managers for the job.

I never doubted Sammi’s ability from his debut at Killie when he came on and scored one of those kinda goals that you dream about as a child.

However, he did infuriate me and I did get to the stage (3-3 draw away to Falkirk) when I thought his time was up.

I’m delighted that he’s now consistently showing just how good, effective and direct he really can be.

  4. Let’s not get carried away.

    Sammi gives us something different

But at times his decison making in key areas

    is mince.

    Tin hat on.

Was it not Ron Pickering who said it, rather than David Coleman?

Thanks for that, was enjoying, the beauty, the calm sea, the atmosphere the wine, she saw your post and I got slapped!! See taxi drivers, they’d git u the jail!!

Hopefully our manager learned from his comments at the AGM.One of the biggest mistakes he made last year

I thought it was one of the Colemanballs ones but maybe you’re right. I can’t be sure.

Anyway, big Sammy in full flow is a joy.

Don’t think you need a tin hat. Sammi has many attributes and has demonstrated that in his left midfield niche he can terrify the life out of the opposition.

However, he still has the ability to infuriate us, probably like no other at Parkhead.

12 months ago he was chronic and deserved every pelter that came his way. Most of us knew he had the talent but his application of it had alot to be desired.

In saying that he is a beacon of Neil Lennons management ability, as he succeed were others failed in getting the best out of him.

He will be a huge loss in the CL.

  11. btw, Sammy is as bad as he always was. Canamalar used mass hypnosis here about 18 months ago, and now we all think Apollo shines out his glutus maximus, and we sold Ki who was threatening his place.

    Well it does :)

    No 9 Dream.

  12. prestonpans bhoys on

That was Miss Prestonpans just off the phone from a pub in Glasgow, it was her first Scotland game. “dad that was truly awful” she said. She will need to get used to it with a halfwit as a manager.

I understand from a mutual close friend, that Jobo Baldie’s mother sadly passed away today at the fine age of 92 years, a cracking innings. I know Jobo was very close to his mother and cherished her dearly, and indeed she was a fine lady.

May I take this opportunity to pass on my condolences to Jobo and his family, and reassure him that his mother will be able to read his EK weather reporti in peace from far above.

I will raise a wee glass of malt to the life of Mother Jobo, when I get back in tonight

IMO Sammi lacks the real self belief that

    he can be great player.

    He’s too nice a guy.

We could probably name many down the years who have frustrated us (don’t tell anyone but I’m trying to keep away from the favourite film guff).

I’ll kick off with John “Yogi” Hughes. He made it up as he rampaged towards the opposition goal and not always to great effect.

  16. CRC

    Poor guy.

Thoughts, prayers and a candle at Mass in the morning for you Jobo and your family.

  17. ElDiego

Nae offence but I’m too young to comment on Yogi :-)

I did go to school with one of his sons who posts on here from time to time so watch your back!!!! :-)

  18. Kikin

Didier was a different type of player.

But in alot of the big games he usually delivered.

  19. So….While some folk on here are fretting over whether they will be allowed to wear a crucifix at work…..

In Iran,a Christian Pastor gets to keep his head…..

and is released from jail after being held three years awaiting sentence for his supposed ‘crimes’….

Now what about the case of the wee 14yr old girl with Down’s Syndrome in Pakistan….accused of ‘blasphemy’,after supposedly burning pages torn from a pamphlet…when lighting a cooking fire…?

Our Green Brigade certainly were supportive of The Thai Tims…who have some of their number similarly afflicted by Down’s Syndrome….

But maybe Rimsha Masih lives on the ‘wrong’ side of the Thai-Pakistan Border…?

Or perhaps they could take up the case of Asia Bibi….a mother of four, similarly charged with ‘blasphemy’….and held in prison for two years….awaiting a death sentence….. by hanging.

Or mebbies Our Green Brigade are only interested in waving wee ‘Palestinian’ flags….in support of a guy who might just have got a trial for Dukla Pumpherston..

    on a good day…?

And who CHOSE not to eat..

‘Saturday Drama’ on BBC Radio 4 at 2:30pm this afternoon….”Blasphemy and The Governor Of Punjab”…

Gives a dramatised account of the events leading to the brutal murder of the Governor,Saalman Taseer

When he tried to offer some support to Asia Bibi in her controversial trial for ‘blasphemy’….

    A Latter-Day “Salem Witch Trial”….

Mebbies the Green Brigade could have a wee listen to the BBC i-player playback….to see if Asia merits their support….

Even though there is no record of whether she has ever ‘kicked a ball’….

I’m sure Brother Walfrid would expect nothing less….

  20. Moonbeams

Didier played a key role in MON team.

One of the first names on the team sheet.

    A much underestimated player IMO.

  21. Didier was still very frustrating, particularly when he cut inside, same as Sami, think Sami has been more consistent! Tin hat on and away to another beach bar for mare drink and kerry on!!
