Samaras astonishing journey

557

Georgios Samaras journey over the last twelve months has been astonishing.  The player was subject to treatment by those who enjoying booing at the football and suffered the indignity of being subject to an exchange at last year’s AGM which must have made it difficult to rebuild confidence and form.

Now he is the most effective man in the team.  He was involved in six out of Celtic’s eight Champions League qualifier goals.  He has found his position, wide on the left, where he scores and creates more goals than he ever did as part of a forward two.  The space on the wing allows those long legs to stretch and get behind defenders.

I’m not paying too much attention to the scare stories which emerged from Latvia last night following his elbow injury, we will need to wait on the results of a scan to know the extent of the damage, but there is modest alarm ahead of our opening Champions League group game against Benfica in 11 days.

    Needs must and all that.

The 2 young ‘uns are 2 1/2 now and keeping me well and truly on my not so nimble toes ;-)

How are your 2 doing? Eldest settled into her role now? ML2 General if memory serves?

TBH I would have thought it would have already been coached out of James by now. Doing it today for Scotland as well was embarrasing. Play to the whistle was taught to me in primary school football.

  3. Levein is an appalling man manager

I’m afraid his poor record doesn’t allow him to exclude Fletcher and Commons just because he’s taken the hump with them

If he truly believes that he has eight players in his squad better than Commons ,nevermind eight players in Commons’ position then he is hopeless

I remember saying he same thing about a young Lionel Messi.

    ;o)

Jamsie will mature, and his overall game will improve.

A bit of protection from the SPL refs would be appreciated all the same.

Can’t believe the kids are that age already! But that’s a great age. They’ll be real fun now.

    We’re all fine thanks.

Older daughter has left Wishie after a year there and now has a year in the Royal in Glasgow. Currently in A&E which is a real experience!

Hope to catch up for a beer but the guys have made it clear you’re not allowed out much:o)

    Take care.

  6. I posted on the last thread that perhaps Sammi’s enforced absence with the arm injury will give his back injury time to heal, rather than playing him with a brace and injections.

Ill windcsc……and long time Sammi fan. (minority of one in Sharkey’s Bar, until this season).

  7. I have admired Sammi from day 1. He has frustrated me and annoyed me at times but I have always admired his ability. Even when he had seemingly poor games against The Old Rangers their team looked afraid of him. He almost always won the ball when it was sent long to him. Of course he often proceeded to dwell on the ball and hand back possession too easily or fail to make the quick pass. BUT had his team mates been sharper at times he would have had the options……

They were terrified of him and he dismantled them almost single handedly at Ibrox in the 2-0 game.

Remember at the first leg of th Utrecht tie a guy beside me in the the North Stand spent the game berating him (we all have those stories!) so every time he made a run, a pass, took the ball, whatever I made a point of shouting ‘brilliant Sammi’. Yer man just kept slagging him.

Anyway, hope he’s not too bad. He can be a bit of a big jesse by the way!!!

As you say, if oldco is all Scotland can call on, they can forget it……..all the usual hype before the usual dross ….. All I have to say is, if Scotland want do without the likes of Commons, Forrest in their current form, fine…..let them get on with it……. miller ?….adam ? … hutton ? .. they’re having a laugh …….. And I’m not saying this because I’m a Tim …..commented on here when I heard the team

…..and the ONLY reason I am angry is because, once again, if you are a Celtic player, you are not judged on your ability, skill, experience, current performance for tha Scotland team …….FACT

  9. EDB,

true on both the kids and my lack of nights out fronts :-)

    A+E in the Royal???

Now that will be an experience……but given her previous im sure she will breeze it.

We’ll get a beer soon though.

    All the best.

  10. I love it when big Sammy opens his legs and shows his class.

Get well soon big man. We will miss you.

  11. By the way any of you so called Celtic fans who booed Sammi, I am willing to

meet you and kick you in the knackers.

    Come ahead

  12. I love it when big Sammy opens his legs and shows his class.

    Alrighty then!

I was at the Brazil game last season and the Spain qualifier and both were wonderful to watch. My grandson was with me and I was delighted he saw football at this level. The thing is some of the best players in the world want to play for their country and I see nothing wrong with that.

    VP

    Hope you’ve been training

because that’s alot of knackers you’ll be kicking.

……and the fact that apparently VP couldny kick doors at halloween, will make things rather more difficult too!

    HAIL! HAIL!

  16. Met sammi a few times and a nicer guy you couldn’t meet, loves Celtic, the club and the supporters, very frustrating at times, but so was agathe and any other you care to mention. Would not drop him in any European game.

Oh and by the way, sitting in a wee bar with the good lady drinking cool Sauvignon Blancc and looking over the sea and it’s a cool 28 degrees here in albufeira. Could be a forward party for Benfica!! See whit happens when we haven’t a game!!

  17. Good evening from a warm Sunny beach, has the football finished ?

They BOO’d Jinky yi know !

  18. googybhoy

Not been a bad day but not a lot of sun. Balmy rather than barmy but dry thankfully.

  19. HT

VP had a few Peroni’s today but

he was one of the very few who has always stood by Sammi.

    HH

  20. I was in that minority who never doubted that Sammi was a special player.

I could not understand his critics & gave vent on this site to my anger at those who pilloried him when what he needed was support.

The big Greek took all the abuse without ever complaining about it.

Thankfully he has now won over the boo boys.

How ironic is it that those same abusers are now the loudest in bemoaning his loss as we approach a vital European campaign ?

It is truly tragic that we have lost him at this stage.

Let’s hope that he is not out for too long.

This guy can be a Celtic legend.

  21. Mrs EDB is watching the paralympics and said how can someone who is blind play football?

I said Kenny Miller has been doing it for years!

That’s meant to be funny b.t.w.

  22. Big Sammi Cretan Ghod ,sure his family fought the hun during the 2nd world

war. Shame on the cowardly boo bhoys …….who ….booed ..him.

    Bring it on.

  23. Young Forrest can be very infuriating I agree.

Arms in the air appealing for a free kick – seen it countless times.

Did it today within minutes of coming on.

I had hoped that the coaching staff would have dealt with that – maybe they are.

Play to the whistle and have the courage to take players on – you’ve got the talent.

    HH!!
