Scant compensation in Lisbon

369

Is it any compensation that POAK, who finished second to AEK last season, drew 1-1 against Benfica in Lisbon, in the Champions League playoff first leg last night?  Not really, but it is a marker of the standard required to beat the Greek champions.  POAK eliminated Basel 5-1 on aggregate two rounds ago.  Greece are likely to have two teams in the group stage.

What might have been is irrelevant, it is more important to perform to the level required in Lithuania tomorrow evening.  Celtic are far stronger than Suduva, but you and I have seen what happens when a Celtic team let standards drop away in Europe, even for a short period of a game.

  3. AULDHEID @ 7:35 PM,

That’s a very interesting piece re: Soccernomics and also the Malmo set-up.

I’ve got to admit I knew little of either…

As far as the Malmo set up is concerned you’ve got to think it’s working due to the Scandanavian temperament.

Still, if Fergus was so minded I believe Celtic for a British Club, are unique and the fraternal bonds coupled with the plethora of talented professionals in our rank makes this a viable option.

Still, that time has passed… mind you if my current latent fears are justified then we maybe be heading for a crisis that changes our look-out permanently:(((

As far as soccernomics is concerned this is of course A perennial problem…

…well outside the Club’s who have owners, leagues, sponsors and tv execs throwing money at them…

…it is more pronounced at Celtic.

A PLC is a much more complex structure than I have knowledge off. My thoughts when we were discussing this back in the day was – the PLC could have articles written up and agreed by all shareholders that allowed the structure of the Company to facilitate a football club.

Although I’m still at a loss, my understanding of PLCs are such that Company Law, Accounting Practise, Stock Market Rules etc etc make it impractical if not in some cases unlawful to construct your own unique aims and objectives in such a structure.

That said I’m sure if you run a Titanium Metal plant, the shareholders are expecting you to run a quality, professional yet cost effective plant. You would not be utilising all the available cash and resources and pumped them into said plant, you do enough to be competitive.

The authors are quite right, a football club is a totally different proposition.

Yet as you look at the uniqueness of Celtic as you describe them, if you are educated with the skill sets and mindsets of running a business and a PLC the Law Of Instruments suggests you maybe want to invest in the football operation just enough to make you competitive.

In this scenario today, with Celtic Football Club the LoI suggests, as it was in the case Willo Flood window, the Plant owners putting in resources to beat the Ibrox Club, no more no less.

Unless you get it wrong as in the Willo Flood window and end up with less… tricky business.

Still it could be worse, you would expect Titanium Metals CEO to have a good overview of the market, the uses for Titanium and the manufacturing process.

Yet if you have Titanium Metals CEO arguing with the head Chemist regarding the micro-nuances of the manufacturing process, well…

    Hail Hail

Is that all you’ve got, after the split Aberdeen collapsed, barely picking up another point. The point is Griff was asked to carry the can for a forward line at a club our size. Incompetence then incompetence now.

Looks like even you are coming round to the realisation our CEO is a disaster, welcome to the party.

PL is a great CEO – great at the commercial side- – if only he would stay out of football decisions and support the manager

  6. Vidi show how it is done – Dear Brendan when the passing a team to death doesn’t work then an alternative tactic is advisable. Balls over the top to a big strong CF (Moussa) can pay dividends. Only saying like.

Morelos up front for Vidi? What a sitter!

  7. Seen some reference to E-Tims earlier…

Read the diary the other day, they had some outtakes from a Sevco Rangers Forum…

We are the indigenous poeple of the UK…

    MMMMMmmmmmm

Guess that makes them Celts then…

Or in reality, with their Anglo Saxon derivation…

    Celtic wannabes:))))

    Hail Hail

  8. Presently enjoying a large Brockman’s gin and tonic. A very nice drink I discovered in the Blane Valley thanks to Richie.

The last time I had a Brockman’s in a pub was when I was in the Oran Mor with BRTH after the Rosenborg game. Which brings me to my next question – has anybody heard from BRTH recently?

  9. DD how you doin mate..

Fairhill … great location … central to everything … if you are staying on the island, you really can walk everywhere from there … but it is worth taking the trains a bit … and a cab … just for the full NY experience.

    Have a blast!
