Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

  1. New Celtic deal for Liam Henderson as he joins Hibernian on loan

By: Newsroom Staff on 14 Aug, 2015 22:41

CELTIC are also pleased to announce that Liam Henderson has signed a new three-year contract that will see him remain with the club until at least the summer of 2018.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who made his debut for the club back in December 2013, has made over 20 appearances for the Hoops to date.

He also enjoyed a very successful loan spell at Norwegian side, Rosenborg, between April and June this year.

Now Liam will spend this season on loan at Hibernian as he continues his football development. Everyone wishes Liam every success with Hibs this season.

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Voguepunter, BFDJ’s bit in the Times today then mentioning for the first time about Scott not starting for the Baggies, sums up the big tumshy. He is great entertainment.

Windows in the Radio Clyde studio must have shattered with his high pitch squaling tonight.

I know one of Scott’s uncles and he stays in Rutherglen or Burnside maybe that’s why I assume Scott is from G71 or G45.

  16. Delighted about Liam’s contract. Open mind on Scott Alan, as a Celtic player I will give him my full backing but with all new signings you never know what you have till they have had a good run of games. Even then you may not know, Bitton is a case in point.

    Anyway welcome to Scott.

  17. Paul 67 ” Reading how good he was” I’ll bet that stops shortly.

My initial concern about this move was the loan of Liam Henderson, feeling more re-assured reading the news of his Contract extension.

  18. 67Heaven .. CHALLENGING THE LIE ..I am wee Oscar...... Ipox belongs to the creditors on

On this special occasion, I will break one of my wee rules …. GIRFUY

AND VERY WELL DONE, CELTIC BOARD……..eat your hearts out, Board-Bashers

So glad our Board could ALSO give Hibs a wee helping hand…..

  19. P67.

    Love it.

As 50 year old who went through the fiver/tenner

    Episode and all that endured..

Tonight I am a happy bhoy.

    Let the people sing…..

  20. Gerryfaethebrig on

Cowiebhoy from the last thread ……..shocking you think our reserves/development squad deserve a place in the lower leagues before Spartans or others in situ that actually deserve it (surely that wouldn’t happen to those teams) but I concur with your point it would benefit our youngsters and maybe add a few people onto the gates at the smaller clubs in the lower divisions

Voguepunter…. I think that’s the best news today about Liam signing a new deal, it means Ronny wants him and in my eyes the Hibs loan is to give him game time

  21. Ok Nytol

    Delaney’s, you’re probably right.

I put two and two together and got thirteen but I am thick according to a poster a few weeks back.

  23. happy with my first ever 3rd place……next time i’ll not read the article before posting haha

yesterday i spent the day wearing the hoops in Aviemore after myself and Mrs Speyside went up the funicular railway to the top of the Cairngorms, it was a glorious day (approx 25%) . From 10 am till after 7pm not one fitba top from a second tier 3 yr old club was spotted but many of the Celtic’s new home & away tops were on display along with a few from last season. Many hail hails, smiles and knowlegable nods were exchanged early in the day before sitting outside a cafe / bar to enjoy a couple of pints and Balvennie Double Woods.

Myself and the missus had sat at an empty table (sits 8) and in the 3 hours we were there countless bhoys came and sat down for a drink and a blether about all things Celtic, was a brilliant day and my missus who doesn’t understand my love for my team could only comment afterwards by saying what a coincidence we could go to Aviemore for the day and i bump into so many fholks i knew…….she was astounded when i said, darling ‘i’ve never met any of them before, but we’re all part of the same family’

one day she’ll get it :)

    Paul67

Interested in your comments re S Allan being comparatively cheap

Squire Jnr was showing me Twitter stuff last night from agents suggesting that D McGeogh was being valued at £425k as part of the deal.

There was so a suggestion that Celric were to pay Hibernian £50k each season of the Allan deal that Celtic reach CL group stages

So while £275k looks cheap these numbers take it to potentially £900k not to mention SA salary and potential loan fee for L Henderson.

The Bosch didn’t have enough empty gingees.

Maybe see you tomorrow around 405, keep up the good work.
